25.01.2022 Even I struggle with this! Only on my own account though! [clients rest easy] Did you know consistency doesn't mean posting every day! With all the advice out there it's easy to feel like you aren't doing enough. But if you engage with your audience regularly with interesting content that adds VALUE and you do this in interesting and genuine ways - you're all good!... Even with the best of intentions, planning content and knowing what to say and when, can be last thing business owners want to do... EVER! If that's you, then I'm your person! 25.01.2022 How do I decide to follow a person or brand? Not just 'like' a post but fully commit to seeing more of their content. What am I looking for? Balance and overall positivity. This isn't to be mistaken for airy fairy, dispassionate, neutral, or fake messaging. Do we really like that stuff? No.... Balanced content communicates a range of moods and relatable marketing messages. Small business owners and brands who do this well earn your trust. They don't shy away from hard conversations. They are pleasant to interact with in every way. Everything they communicate makes you feel as if they know you. They share their greatest success and their failures. They can even have a bit of a whinge! No one is perfect, and while I love perfectly curated feeds as much as the next person, I love it even more when it's paired with reality. A hard day, a lesson learned and all the behind the scenes mess! I follow accounts that can keep it positive. I want to read positive messages, your audience wants to read positive messages. Because positivity is authentic too! I particularly watch how someones frames their educational content. It shouldn't feel like a virtual slap in the face in attempt to change a belief or behaviour. It should feel encouraging and informative. As we scroll through our feeds, we are consuming a tonne of information each day! Between that and the news it can get pretty overwhelming and fear-filled fast. We need to respect the mental health of our followers and do our best to be people of empathy, hope and clarity. TAKEAWAY Balance your content types. Don't be a Debby Downer. Encourage, teach and inspire. Educate your audience, don't shame them. People buy from friends so be friendly. Be positive. See more

24.01.2022 Do - you - see - what - I - seeee? Firstly, please tell me you read that in Bill Murray's rendition of 'Do you hear what I hear I hear?' Do yourself a favour a look that up on YouTube! Secondly, I want to take this time to say that not all people are going to see what you see. Ground breaking, I know! But in the context of your ideal client it just might be.... Are they just a version of yourself? If so, you can assume what they want but with caution. OR do you need to step inside someone else's very different shoes, shoes that you never come close to wearing, and see life from their perspective? TRUTH BOMB What you think your 'ideal client' needs may not be what you think it is.

21.01.2022 I miss cafes. I miss the sound of activity and people laughing. I didn't realise how impactful the simple gathering of strangers in a cafe could be! But here we have social media as a life line to connection, we have our phones that will actually call people (I rarely call so it's almost a secondary feature to me), and so we stay in touch! 18.01.2022 How the times are changing! What should you be communicating with your audience? If you don't know when you'll be opening.... Tell them what you do know. It's reassuring. People who know where your business is at now can have confidence they'll know and be ready when you do open. ... If you know the date you are going to re-open... Treat it like a launch! Create hype. If your offerings have changed let them know, if it's business as usual let them know. People are actively searching for what businesses are doing right now just trying to work out whats available to them! Keep people in the loop as much as possible. Do you have a local business that has done a terrific job pivoting their service and upping their social media presence during this time? Give them a shout out below! Here's mine... I was super impressed with Ms Batterhams! These guys literally just opened up and then everything went down. Not only did they keep everyone up-to-date with their adjustments they also successfully created Winnie on Wheels to offer takeaway! The pasta is AMAZING btw! 18.01.2022 I'm not interested in wasting your money... If your hard earned $$ mulla is going to be more effectively spent else where in your business - I'm going to tell you! So ask yourself this...... Do I know what my business is? Do I know who I am selling to? Do I know the specific problem I am solving for my customers/clients? Do I know my customer/clients buying journey? Now, I don't mean the simple, "I sell shoes and women buy them!" If only it was that easy! If you don't have a clear and specific marketing message we are going to be shooting in the dark with an inadequate marketing strategy. You don't have to have this completely nailed but if you are coming up with real blanks to those questions, spend time working on answering these before investing in Social Media Management. 18.01.2022 What can we learn from others? A good deal actually. Take notes from the leaders in your field, your competitors and the new kids on the block. Here's why.... Industry leaders have been through it and are successful. They've made their mistakes and learned from them. Their valuable advice usually comes from describing how to do something rather than a copy & paste set of instructions. Your competitors are in the same boat. Do the tedious SWOT analysis and take notes. Celebrate what works for them and see if adapting it to your own context will work for you. Do not be fearful of competition, you can't learn from what you're scared of! The new kids on the block have fresh ideas. Usually younger, digital natives, with different perspectives. Their unusual and seemingly annoying ideas can actually change things for the better in their respective industry. We're all in this together and can all learn from one another. So keep taking notes!

17.01.2022 It's true! I, as a business owner, continually overcome my generational aversion to phone calls because it's called being an adult! And because phone calls are sometimes 10X easier than that 45 minute crafted email haha or is it just me who has spent that much time on one email??

Sorry It takes consistency, creativity and a whole lot of time to grow a loyal online community who want to see your stuff, buy your things and book you in. Accounts that create conversation, shareable content, and whose content gets 'saved' are achieving quality engagement! ... Don't feel like you have the time to make this happen? 14.01.2022 And all the social media marketers said YES! When it comes to foundational principles of a good social media presence, this is almost on par with ENGAGEMENT and QUALITY. Almost. You can post regularly and not speak to anyone meaningfully and do nothing for your business! That's the truth. But as I've said before, consistency builds trust with your followers. People can easily forget why they followed you in the first place if you disappear for a while.... Sometimes disappearing sometimes is what YOU need though and that's okay. You can rebuild! Just good old fashioned time and you guessed it - consistency! So, does consistency mean posting every flipping day?? Yes and no. It depends on your goals, energy, mental health and your audience! So with all those variables, I can't recommend a blanket strategy for everyone. Sorry, it's not that simple! What I can recommend is to post at a BARE MINIMUM 3X a week. Get a few stories in there too. They can be as simple or complex as you can manage. It's doable and worth it. I'll go into some story ideas another time. HOT TIP - It helps if you bulk plan your content a month in advance or even better get a social media manager to help you! TAKEAWAY Consistency works the best with quality content and a commitment to engagement. Do at least the bare minimum and remember 3X quality posts is better than 5X rushed and meaningless posts! 01.01.2022 Not having a go at influencers, there is a place for them in social media marketing but I also had a giggle about this. As a woman, it's common to get these kinds of influencer ads and this is often the very first line you hear. Not very original but what else could they say? Haha
