15.01.2022 So thanks for those that attended the American Bourbon Whisk(e)y tasting on 5th February. On this day we tasted two bourbons including Elijah Craig, 12yo Small Batch Bourbon; and Eagle Rare; with Elijah Craig being far superior. Elijah Craig was named after a reverend who lived in Virginia. One day his warehouse where he stored his barrels experienced a devastating fire. He used the charred casks regardless, and found they imparted a great character. Thus, the method of makin...g true Kentucky Bourbon was born. This 12 year old premium whisky is bottled exclusively from a dumping of 70 barrels or less, and is a rich, smooth hand-crafted bourbon, made in the old way. Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt Nose: Quite thick and full. There is a beautiful sweetness with notes of toasty oak, toffee, spicy stewed fruits, a touch of resin and a lovely crème anglaise character. Palate: Full and sublimely smooth with notes if stewed Bramley apples, malmsey, a touch of aniseed and a hint of spice. Finish: Good length with toasty oak notes and a creamy sweetness. https://www.masterofmalt.com//elijah-craig-small-batch-bo/ The 10 year old Eagle Rare did not have the same nose and finish, which was unambiguously noted by the remainder left in the bottle on the night. The subtle flavours of oak, vanilla, and caramel dominate with a crisp and full bodied finish, still making it far better than the standard Jim, Jack, or Johnny.
