09.01.2022 One of the best parts of being President of the Society for Mental Health Research is to meet young people like Monique Robinson. Monique is a Year 6 student at Wallsend South Public School who is working as hard as we Mental Health researchers do to raise money for our work. Monique has been collecting recyclable cans and bottles and turning this into a donation to Mental Health research. We promise to work hard everyday, Monique, and use your money to find a cure and better support families and all Australians who are affected by mental illness. The Society for Mental Health Research thanks you. And thanks to Ms Van Netten at Wallsend South Public School for support!

04.01.2022 SMHR are thrilled to announce that our Past President, Prof Pat McGorry, together with Prof Barnaby Nelson, Prof Alison Yung and a team of investigators, have been successful in a $33 million grant from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). This extremely important grant is recognition of Orygens 25 years of pioneering research in psychosis, and will support a vast program of work aimed at developing models for predicting outcomes for young people who are at imminent... and high risk of psychotic illness. Importantly, this is the largest competitive grant that has ever been awarded by the NIH to Australian-led medical research. It is also a significant acknowledgement of the high quality of mental health research being envisioned and conducted in Australia, and by Orygen in particular. It is a watershed moment not just in mental health research but for medical research in Australia. Congratulations to Pat, Barnaby, Alison and team!
