20.01.2022 Vale Ramakrishnan. Ramakrishnan, the Cre-A, Chennai based Indian publisher of my family history mystery novel Fake ID, the first translated into Tamil for ado...lescent readers by Dr Meenakshi Hariharan, passed away this week from Covid.. Always courteous, he was an erudite ‘gentleman’ publisher, , and it was a privilege to have worked with him. The late Professor and poet, Dr Judith Rodriguez of Deakin University introduced us about five years ago. And her daughter Zoe Rodriguez spoke on my behalf at the Chennai launch. There has been a special cultural connection between Chennai, Australia and literature. Ramakrishnan was the link.

15.01.2022 All writers have stories in their 'bottom drawer' but sometimes new opportunities arise in formats not available when the story was originally written. Or attitudes may have changed towards the subjects matter. Fashions in style also affect publication or performance. Worth looking at your earlier work.

15.01.2022 This is part of a Portable Magic series of almost 30 minutes long You Tube interviews by journalist Sue Lawson which explores in-depth the ideas behind the writings of a number of Australian creators. Sue Lawson is an excellent interviewer who asks thoughtful questions and really listens to the answers. She started the series during the Pandemic Lockdown. Earlier interviews include Corinne Fenton, Deb Abela and Claire Saxby. https://youtu.be/efSzFje5R5Q

10.01.2022 In writing workshops I get lots of requests about formatting picture books for young family members. (I have no shares in this company) But storyboardnotebook is very useful for organising ideas into picture books.

08.01.2022 Auslan signing is an important skill for sharing stories.Sometimes a book can travel into other languages you had not envisaged when it was first published. Authors permit free usage of their works in Braille and Auslan signing.

07.01.2022 Vale Barbara Ker Wilson.https://tributes.theage.com.au/obitua//barbara-ker-wilson/ A very significant editor and contributor to the literary world. As a first time author, her advice to me was, 'A editor suggests what you would see for yourself in a year's time, when you are not so close to the manuscript. Act on the editor's advice if reasons are given.'

05.01.2022 Fake I.D. was my most sought after title, by those seeking fake ID. But it was also a family history mystery of a 14 year old grand daughter who discovered on the day of the funeral that her Gran had fake I.D for years. The original cover was seen to be 'girlie' (despite the story including a strong hockey playing boy too) but went into Canadian and other editions and then was re-issued with a new cover as an e book and is still being read. Then it went into Tamil with Cre-A... a Chennai based publisher (Due to poet Judith Rodriguez introduction) as one of the first YA novels translated in Tamil and was launched by the Australian consul. Some books travel further than ever expected. And so I now have ties with the Chennai literary community and Eugene Pinto whose grandson turns out to live in the next suburb to my grandson in Darwin. Truly an international literary community. See more

05.01.2022 Important to acknowledge the international achievements of female authors.

04.01.2022 Two fabulous bits of our history! Thanks to NSW SWW for this item. An article from 8 October 1930 in Sydney Morning Herald about 40-50 members of SWW being invited to walk and inspect parts of the Sydney Harbour Bridge during the final stages of its construction followed by an afternoon tea at tables decorated with sweet peas and maidenhair ferns. A second article dated 15 November 1932 in The Sun about the release of the first Ink magazine by SWW. Could these women have imagined their legacy would still be uniting and inspiring women writers years later...

03.01.2022 Books are an ideal Christmas gift and this selection written by Society of Women Writers Victoria members offers a variety to choose from.
