04.01.2022 INDIGENOUS SOFTBALL | Carrying on our information from NAIDOC, Kevin Tannebring (KT), SA Umpire (winner of the Softball Australia 2020 Vivienne Triplett Umpire of the Year) has been volunteering for 14 years in the APY Lands and was joined this season, by Hayley Bonython, Walkerville Cats (and one of SA’s unsung volunteer heroes). Since the APY Lands' 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID, they ran Softball Clinics for school children and seniors. This has always been extrem...ely popular with all ages with the senior women playing until the sun goes down and they can no longer see the ball (as you can see in one of the images). Softball SA would love to welcome more Indigenous players, knowing it is one of the favourite sports in the APY Lands and by NITV viewers, hitting the most watched show on a weekend last season. West Torrens U16 team recently added a Mimili girl to their team through the work of KT (see image). If you are interested in playing softball please contact [email protected]
