24.01.2022 WOMENS A-GRADE REVIEW South Wagga Warriors continued their fine start to the softball season with a comfortable 12-5 victory over Turvey Park. In the opening innings of the game, Warriors’ Jess Swaysland and Kristy Tennison were quickly out, but a three-bagger to Montana Kearnes was converted to a run when Layhnee Kearnes hit to centrefield.... In response, three consecutive regulation outs were made, with Turvey Park failing to reach first base, let alone look like scoring. Safe hits to Jess Grant, Jacinta Parmenter and Tennison yielded two more runs for the Warriors, taking their tally to three. Smart base-running saw Turvey’s Amanda Gooden cross the plate to lessen the margin to just two. Further hits to Layhnee Kearnes, Sam O’Neill, Carmel Hutchinson and Parmenter gave Warriors a 5-1 lead at the top of the third. In the bottom of the dig, Turvey Park was shut out in no time at all. The Warriors then produced their best innings yield of the match when giant home runs to the Kearnes sisters and further hits to Tennison and Kymberley Dennis saw four runs cross the plate. Not to be outdone, Turvey Park produced their best innings tally as well! Amanda Donohue, Amanda Gooden, Jane Wadley, Phoebe Wadley, Makaidie Gale and Sophie Gooden all had safe hits contributing to four runs being scored. Turvey gave themselves some small chance of getting back into the game by dismissing two of the first three batters; however outfield hits to Jess Swaysland, Layhnee Kearnes (her fourth), O’Neill, Dennis and Hutchinson took the margin to seven after five innings. Turvey came into the bottom of the fifth needing at least one run to prevent, or at least delay the mercy rule being applied. Despite loading up the bases, all the runners were left stranded on the third dismissal, leaving the score as a 12-5 win to the Warriors. Turvey Park will enjoy a bye next Saturday, whilst the Warriors will meet Saints.

24.01.2022 Changes to National Championships

24.01.2022 Week 5 - the season is almost here - EXCITING

23.01.2022 WOMENS A-GRADE MATCH REVIEW 21.11.2020 Turvey Park showed that they are well and truly a real premiership chance after defeating South Wagga Warriors, 15-11, on Saturday. In a game which featured good batting from both teams, the Turvey win was all the more convincing when no less than four B grade players doubled up after their B grade matches.... All four: Amanda Hubbard as pitcher, Kira Hallam and Alex Maiden in the outfield and Natalie Bathgate as designated player, more than held their own, particularly with the bat. Warriors’ coach, Justin Kearnes, chose to start with Layhnee Kearnes pitching and she soon had Charli Hall back on the bench after taking a scorching line drive. Leila Wadley started the ball rolling for Turvey with a safe centrefield hit. Uncharacteristic fielding errors by the Greens and safe hits to Hallam, and Sophie Gooden (home run) contributed to Turvey scoring five runs in their opening innings. Montana Kearnes replaced her sister on the pitchers’ plate to close the innings. Untidy Turvey fielding and a safe hit to Montana Kearnes saw the Warriors score three runs in their opening dig. Hall and Leila Wadley both got on base in the top of the second, but neither could score. In the Warriors second innings, hits to Kristy Tenison and Jayla Nix saw the latter cross the plate for a 5-4 scoreline. Layhnee Kearnes was again the pitcher as Turvey was shut out in the top of the third. The Warriors were also shut out in their third innings. A regulation catch and two splendid outfield catches by the Warriors again shut out Turvey in the top of the fourth. The Warriors went ahead for the first time when Tenison and Montana Kearnes gave them a two-run yield and a one-run lead in the bottom of the fourth. Amanda Donohue and Hallam both had safe hits in the top of the fifth, but both were left stranded on base when the innings closed. Turvey didn’t allow the Warriors to get any further ahead when they were shut out in the bottom of the fifth. The top of the sixth innings saw a rampant Turvey team bat in an amazing seven runs with safe hits to Maiden (two), Bathgate, Donohue, Amanda Gooden, Hallam, Phoebe Wadley and Sophie Gooden. Two more runs to the Warriors in the bottom of the sixth, courtesy of hits to Layhnee Kearnes and Sam O’Neil took the score to 12-8 with one innings remaining. An Amanda Gooden home run and a leftfield hit to Phoebe Wadley took Turvey’s final score to 15, leaving the Warriors needing a not impossible eight runs to win. Nix, Tenison and Layhnee Kearnes (home run) played their part, but a return of only three runs gave Turvey a Most deserved 15-11 win. Turvey Park will enjoy a bye next round whilst the Warriors will be keen to bounce back to the winners’ list when they meet Saints on Wednesday evening. See more

First Executive Meeting for the upcoming Season will be held: Wednesday 8th July at 6.30pm at French Fields Meeting Room. It was an impressive turn out of Association Members - thank you! Congratulations to all those who were elected, and thank you to all those that volunteered for various roles. With the enthusiasm shown today it is certainly going to be an exciting season ahead! If you missed out on a position please still help out! We still need helpers right through the season and volunteers are the lifeblood of our game. This is one of the first AGMs in many years where every position has been filled on the Executive - and that is just fantastic! There is still a lot to do, and starting this year off we will need to ensure we all work together to make sure we attract as many players as we can - sure there will be some changes, but I know we can all work together to get it done. A big thank you to our retiring Executive Members Deanna McNaughton & Chris Hall. Thank you for the huge amount of work you have and you continue to contribute to Wagga Softball. Softball in Wagga is in a far better place because of your commitment and dedication to getting things done. We wish you both well and we hope to still see your around the Diamonds. The Executive that have been voted in today will hold their positions for a period of 2 years. We voted on a proposal to adjust the Wagga Softball Association Charter to move Executive roles from 12 months to 2 year positions to allow development, growth and to ensure there is stability in making change and ensuring we see things through. We hope that this change sees the competition go from strength to strength. Thank you again for everyones contributions today - there are some really exciting times ahead!

10.01.2022 SENIOR LEAGUE SOFTBALL A-GRADE MATCH REVIEW 25.11.2020 South Wagga Warriors bounced back from their surprise loss to Turvey Park with a convincing 7-0 win over Saints. Indeed, it was yet another premature finish to the game, with the mercy rule being applied in the bottom of the fifth innings. Warriors won the toss and invited Saints to bat first.... Tessa McGlynn was the only Saints to make base, but had only reached second when the team was shut out. It was an even quicker shut out of the Warriors in their responsive first innings. All three dismissals in Saints second innings were struck out by pitcher, Montana Kearnes. The Warriors’ Layhnee Kearnes and Jess Grant had safe outfield hits enabling Kearnes and Kimberley Dennis to cross the plate. Nine pitches were all that were required to shutout Saints for a third time. Kristy Tenison hit a rightfield home run to start the Warriors third innings and she was followed home by Montana Kearnes who scored on a Sam O’Neill sacrifice fly. Yet another three up-three down was the case in the Saints fourth dig and hits to Grant and Jess Swaysland saw them take the Warriors score to six. It was an all too familiar situation in the Saints fifth innings, shut out yet again. The Warriors’ Carmel Hutchinson reached first and after stealing to second was batted in by a Swaysland home run. However, since Hutchinson was the seventh runner to cross the plate, the game was deemed over with the application of the mercy rule. The Saints will look to do better when they meet Turvey Park next round, whilst South Wagga Warriors will enjoy the bye. See more
