13.01.2022 Muntrie blossoms like snow falling on Softfoot We grow many species of native plants here which we then harvest fresh and use in our on farm restaurant. Real paddock to plate style. We can’t wait to use these muntries somewhere on our summer menu once they are ripe. ... Muntries belong to that large plant family Myrtaceae that includes many Australian plants such as eucalyptus, paperbark and bottlebrush. Muntries botanical name is Kunzea pomifera and it is often known as emu apple, native cranberry or muntaberry. They are found throughout the temperate regions of Australia and can tolerate sandy or alkaline soils. Muntries played an important part in the diet of the Ngarrindjeri people of the lower Murray River region, who also traded the dried fruit with other groups. thank you to the Rushall Garden Grouo for the info and deep gratitude to the First People of Australian for sharing their knowledge of edible Australian plants.
