25.01.2022 Not the news any of us were after. Another reflection of our perceived standing in the health network. Ultimately, we the members must commit to change our perception. Tick some boxes. Do we have the determination to do this?

25.01.2022 Can’t disagree with this. They have by far been our most professional advocate.

24.01.2022 This is such an interesting study. No placebo here! These types of studies really start to explore what palpatory treatment can change in our physiological system https://journals.viamedica.pl/folia_histochemica_cy//42506

24.01.2022 This pathology affects many manual therapists. Ideas?

22.01.2022 MA continues to lead the way with advocacy for the profession. Creating the means for member choice and equity with peer professions.

22.01.2022 Now this is a great study! These measurements allow us look at a number of different aspects of plantar fascia symptoms and signs. Im not sure if I agree with the discussion that balance and tremor are due to a thickened plantar fascia. I would argue the opposite. The inability to absorb load due to inhibition or inefficiency of such musculature as tibialis posterior, lead to the plantar fascia being excessively called upon to do so. Hence leading to thickening of this in...ert tissue. Thoughts? Moreover, when we have these initial measurements, we could then start adding interventions to see what made changes immediately and then cumulatively. Great stuff! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32698455/

21.01.2022 Interesting scoping article that notes multiple potential physiological changes with Manual Therapy

20.01.2022 Is it time to question our associations mode of action or inaction? Demand some answers and some change? If so, how? We are a democracy and that allows us, if not mandates us to constantly question our authorities, in this case our association executive. And although we the members need to fulfill basic compliance that our associations set (mostly relayed from government and insurance companies), they should act as our business leaders and continuously develop our professi...Continue reading

20.01.2022 Dont hesitate to use these. The more research we quote from the more legitimate we become.

19.01.2022 Although this study has some positive trends for the use of Massage Therapy for Dystonia patients, are you happy with the use of a student massage therapist? Are you happy with the treatment methodology? Would you treat dystonia differently when performing such studies?

19.01.2022 One of those moments when you read an article that seems ten years too late. One quote that resonates. She conducted two separate investigations, including one in December 2019, and found agents were doctor shopping and cherry-picking evidence to terminate claims.... 18.01.2022 This is one of the more interesting explanations of the potential mechanisms of cross fibre mobilisation (read in the discussion). What do you think?

17.01.2022 This is the sort of study that drives us mad. The use of DOMS as musculoskeletal pathology to legitimise any type of intervention is a complete waste of time, effort, money and brain space. This is a pathophysiology that needs time to recover, not an external intervention. It can be very mild (same exercise can reduce or eliminate symptoms) to moderate (difficulty with the same movements, from mild to severe pain and restriction) to severe (large amounts of swelling and inab...ility to move that area at all). More importantly, we dont really know what it is! But we try and provide an external intervention (in this case foam rolling) and then legitimise its use for recovery. Our inability to quantify most feelings of fatigue have left us using DOMS as the go to pathophysiology. A flawed reference for fatigue. And very frustrating when authors and readers only see Foam rolling doesnt help recovery - as this is what most people unfortunately will take from it.

16.01.2022 Calling for fair and clear access to essential healthcare for all Victorians during stage four lockdowns By continuing to limit access to myotherapy, we are... concerned that the Victorian governments approach is resulting in: deteriorating mental and physical health outcomes that will take longer to stabilise (if they can be rectified), unnecessary financial stress for patients and small businesses owners, a significant impact on reliance on pain medications, and mental health deterioration. And therefore, we urge the Victorian government to please re-adopt its own Stage 3 definition of permitted essential healthcare workers. 14.01.2022 How do we leverage this stuff properly? In a world that is crying out for evidence based therapy, here it is. But are we promoting this enough? How many GPs do you think know this inervention even exists let alone this research? What do you think are the best methods of getting this stuff to the very people who are most likely to refer to our profession?

12.01.2022 What does Australian Massage Therapy need to move professionally into the future. This from our Canadian friends would be a good start. One association would be our best start.

09.01.2022 Massage Parlours. Below are just three headlines picked out from recent weeks from major news outlets. Have we lost the war on changing the perception of societies views on massage? ... According to these reports we have. Even the prime ministers initial address to the nation, he restrcited massage parlours (even though it was supposed to be for the sex industry) and unfortunately we got thrown into the basket. 04.01.2022 All the way from Pakistan. Some of the best studies we have been reading lately are from Pakistan. Well designed, practical studies and very well written. This is another of a developing list that we can all learn from. In this study, for those who only read the abstract , massage is defined as "For the purpose of the study, traditional massage was... defined as rubbing the body parts with oil in proximal to distal direction on all four limbs while on front and back of trunk area, from centre to periphery. This rubbing was superficial, gentle and longitudinal in nature. Deep pressures, stroking and circular movements were avoided. Each limb, front and back of trunk area was massaged for five minutes each. Proper and detailed training regarding routine physical therapy and traditional massage was provided to the mothers / caregivers up to the satisfaction of the attending physical therapist" When reading the study, what other techniques do you believe may have helped? Remember, these guys (70-80% of CP is spastic contracture) are in constant spasm due to a lack of inhibitory interneuron. https://www.ejmanager.com/mnstemps/33/33-1546542180.pdf

04.01.2022 These journals are improving with each issue. https://www.bodyworkmovementtherapies.com//S1360-8592(/pdf

02.01.2022 https://journals.lww.com//Clinical_outcomes_and_cost_effec What an interesting study design. Firstly, what is Physiotherapy? What protocol and interventions are now considered Physiotherapy?... Secondly, how disappointing that massage can be reduced to a chair (yes they maybe only looking at the advocacy for a chair in this particular instance). This is quite consistent with many of these studies. Massage is generally applied with some form of rhythmical, none directed or post assessment indicated fashion. Its just,.applied. This is obviously not how the profession chooses what techniques or protocols are indicated or viable for any given person. However, these types of studies (and the results) will often define the profession and its outcomes.
