25.01.2022 Ripper day & great crowd at the Technology for a Better Farm field day at Echo Hills organised by ConnectAg. I even had my health check with Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia Diane Dowrick #rfds #echohills #areyouboggedmate

24.01.2022 This is on our property

22.01.2022 With all the buzz around Regenerative Agriculture we too are concerned the whole thing could become a confusing mess...our desire is for an outcome based approach given we need to be flexible...just as Nature itself is. The outcome and process-based approaches share a common goal but could lead to very different farming practices. For one thing, the outcome-based certifications do not require farmers to follow specific practices to restore soil health what matters is achieving that goal.

22.01.2022 Master the technology you already have, make sense of your data for better decisions & see walk-over-weighing technology in action. 'Echo Hills' will host a tec...hnology focused field day this Saturday 27 July that you don’t want to miss. Register now. Topics include: - Herd recording results - Managing the feedbase - Automating forage budgeting - Are you bogged mate? - Walk-over-weighing - Outback Health Register: https://www.trybooking.com/BCBMJ

21.01.2022 First calves of 2020...wonderful to see the natural world continues as we humans come to grips with the fact we are also part of nature. This calf is minutes old as it’s mother licks the afterbirth off it before it has its first drink!

21.01.2022 The Labor Government continues to play the blame game with Queensland farmers, now saying they are wrecking the Reef. The allegations are based on modelling, no...t science, and not actual water quality data. Let’s get real about land management. Come and have a look at what farmers are really doing. Come and have an actual look at the health of the Reef. It’s time to stop playing the political blame game. More paperwork will not fix the Reef, working together, on great land management, will. #voteforfood #atruestory See more

20.01.2022 We have just finished a management burn in timber regrowth and grass country. It took three of us approximately 30 km of driving and over 50 km of walking lighting with firelighers. Our aim was to aid in the restoration of this 200 ha paddock that prior to our management was overgrown with timber regrowth without a blade of grass to stabilise the soil. Now after 5 years of careful management we have reduced erosion to nearly zero and regained the ability to provide grazing food. The fire was lit 3 days after rain hence the grass growing again already only 2 days after burning. The mosaic pattern of the burnt out logs combined with retained shrubs and young trees along with regenerating grass will contribute to a wonderfully diverse and healthy landscape.

19.01.2022 Accepting that death, pain and injury are part of life is something animal activists have never come to terms with. I don’t think they ever will. They are too high on their moral outrage and the feelings of virtue that accompany it, to ever give it up. Brigid...How well this article of yours encapsulates the virtual bubble so many activists live in

16.01.2022 Nikki found this great Ted Talk that explains beautifully what we practise and try to improve at every day with our cattle

13.01.2022 Our 17 ha of winter crop (usually plant about 1200 ha) is doing its very best to survive. This is Moby variety forage barley that was planted late June. Normally we would plant in April to cut hay in September...unfortunately due to a horrendously dry year last year, all of the moisture from our late summer rain had gone way too deep in the profile to plant anything at the optimum time. This little area was an experiment with the hope if either making hay or harvesting seed or worst case at least grow some ground cover. At the rate the Cockatoos are into it already I believe it may only make groundcover!! This is just one of the things we juggle as farmers doing our best to feed the world whilst utilising our land in a sustainable manner.

12.01.2022 I have just shared this heartfelt poem of Mary’s to the Dominion Activist page asking everyone read it and deeply consider its content before they head out to protest animal rights tomorrow

11.01.2022 A fascinating concept. I wonder how healthy soils themselves impact on suberin?

10.01.2022 This article raises some very pertinent points

08.01.2022 "When people in a position of privilege talk about reducing our meat consumption, one of the first things I consider is how this trend would negatively impact w...omen and children in developing nations who rely on these animals for economic stability, food security, and vital nutrition. Recently, I had the privilege of attending the United Nations’ ninth Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Meeting of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) at Kansas State University where 300 guests from 22 countries. As part of the Food and Agriculture Organization, GASL convenes annually to cultivate an open discussion among varied perspectives about livestock globally, including academics, agricultural researchers, global nonprofits, and government representatives. Each session was informative and showcased GASL’s work is tied to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which include eliminating poverty and hunger while fostering partnerships that will help secure these objectives. By increasing livestock production, particularly in developing and emerging economies, we will be able to improve food and nutritional security to future populations, University of Florida animal scientist Dr. Geoffrey Dahl said during the meeting. And in particular, our interest is improving nutrition for vulnerable populations where it might have lifelong impacts on their quality of life. Women and Children NEED more animal-based foods Two of the leading nutrient deficiencies worldwide are Iron and Vitamin B12. Animal products deliver these in the best form. Chessa Lutter, a nutrition researcher with the Division of Food Security and Agriculture at the University of Maryland, noted that proteins from animal-based foods are especially important for the development of the brain in young children. She is part of a team that has studied the effects of adding eggs to the diets of infants at 6 months of age. Meat is a critical component of a child’s diet, particularly in developing nations where improved health and cognitive function is a key step to fostering a healthier, more successful nation. In a recent study evaluating the effects of substituting meat for milk, soy, or other vegetarian sources of protein in children’s diets, the results showed that the meat group had the best outcomes for growth, intellectual ability, behavior, and academic performance over a two-year period. They also excelled over the other groups in terms of physical ability, leadership, and significantly more growth during the study.

08.01.2022 Returning land to balance and decreasing the overpopulation of Wallabies to a sustainable level on our properties with carefully planned fencing is high on our agenda but financially is currently way out of our reach

07.01.2022 A morning for new life as our barley does it’s very best to reproduce in trying conditions.

05.01.2022 The reading of this poem is still as moving and just as pertinent as it was six years ago. Get back to me we farmers are doing our utmost to do our best to continue improving our practices to protect the land while we feed and clothe so many in a rapidly changing world

04.01.2022 "History has shown that it is easier to consume propaganda and buzz words than take positive action with individuals finding it easier to take a stand in the plant vs. meat debate than to make simple yet impactful dietary changes."

01.01.2022 Well, here's a more balanced - and highly welcomed - summary on the new IPCC report. Thank you Livestock save the planet and FarmingUK.
