23.01.2022 Compost is now being trialled in the no til bay in an attempt to open soil up and improve soil structure. Compost has been provided for the site free of charge by Veolia Australia & New Zealand. Spreading completed by Customized Spreading. Application rate 30 tn/ha. Compost to be minimally cultivated in prior to croping.

22.01.2022 The lettuce crops dont mind the softer tillage approaches. At the farm walk the third lettuce crop was uniform and similar across the three soil management practices; 1. Conventional with seven cultivations, 2. Reduced tillage with two cultivations (deep rip and power harrow) and 3. Minimum-tillage with only a power harrow and compost application.

21.01.2022 Similar yields were also measured in the second baby cos lettuce crop (baby cos 2) with reduced-till and minimum-till practices producing yields about the same as the conventional till i.e. less than 5% different to the conventional tillage practice. In the first crop (baby cos 1) the yield in the reduced-till practice was also similar to the conventional tillage practice. But a total no-till approach used in the first crop (baby cos 1) was a step to far with uncultivated hard setting soil too hard for the coulter attached to the transplanter result sheared bolts and a failed crop in no-till

20.01.2022 Terrific turn out to the Werribee South site on Friday 2nd September. The growers had a great chance to see the various tillage practices in use, the differences in soil structure and that the crops showed great quality across site. Thanks to all who attended and special mention to our BBQ cooked by John from Veolia Australia and supplied by Karen at PPWCMA.

20.01.2022 Couldn't make the farm walk. have a look for yourself at the soil under reduced- and conventional tillage. Two vs seven cultivation's two months after planting. What do you think?

14.01.2022 No til vs low til vs conventional soil cultivation practices. Stuart Grigg Ag-Hort Consulting Pty Ltd says "No til plants struggled to establish & push through very hard soil, low til plants expected to harvest comparably crop from conventionally tilled soil - less labour units used in soil preparation process".

12.01.2022 Excellent crop health across all the tillage trials.

11.01.2022 With the midi cos trial harvested, it was clear the non-til bay seedlings could not establish, fail to establish as expected and there was nothing to harvest. However, the reduced til bay was a resounding success with results showing improved yields in the reduced til section versus the heavilty cultivated section.

11.01.2022 Masterclass in soilborne disease management 30-31 August - couple of places left- info here http://bit.ly/2xby3v1

10.01.2022 Crops progressing well as at 9 August, estimated harvest date early September. Crops growing in all cultivation methods performing identically.

10.01.2022 Newly planted seedlings in minimum til bay have this week gone into where compost was applied.

09.01.2022 Another weekly update from site manger Stuart Grigg Ag-Hort Consulting Pty Ltd - No tillage vs reduced tillage and conventional tillage practices. No tillage performing very poorly but reduced tillage of just one pass with the bed former over old beds performing as well as full soil disturbance.

09.01.2022 The crops looking terrific. See you all tomorrow at 2pm at 700 Duncans Road, Werribee South for the Farm Walk. BBQ and refreshments to follow.

07.01.2022 The site was planted with Midi Cos on October 21. The no til bay was a challenge, as the soil was very hard, the bracket bolt connecting the colter sheared. We finished the planting using a tyne at the front of the planter to break the soil surface. This proved very effective, a week on the crop is establishing well.

04.01.2022 No til trial bay at Fragapane Farms, Werribee South ready for Midi Cos planting this week. All excited to see the first trial planting occur this week.

04.01.2022 Planting of the third Baby Gem Cos crop at Fragapane Farms on 2nd July.

02.01.2022 Stuart Grigg Ag-Hort Consulting Pty Ltd was back at the Soil Wealth: Werribee site this week taking notes - seedlings establishing well in both the reduced til and conventionally cultivated bays. No til bay with poor seedling establishment, roots finding it difficult to penetrate hard soil, yellow leaves and birds/rabbits also eating and pulling out seedlings.

01.01.2022 The site sign has been installed as has the Wild Eye soil moisture monitoring unit in the composted, low tillage trial bay on Sunday by Stuart Grigg Ag-Hort Consulting Pty Ltd
