21.01.2022 Were at the end of another big school year, and at the end of our first term for our new Year 12s. One great practice that will help your studies in 2020 immensely is to reflect on this year (particularly this term for the Year 12s). ? ? ... ? ? Theres a big difference in benefits between simply thinking about these in your head, and actually writing them out. So write them out unsparingly. And to the Year 12s, have an honest analysis into your subjects to decide whether or not you should drop one of them. Dont be afraid to drop to 10 units. When deciding whether to drop a subject, consider factors such as: - Assessment Task 1 marks - your class teacher - your schools usual success in that subject - how much you enjoy it - its scaling - amount of time you would need to put in it compared to other subjects (e.g. subjects with major works). And conversely, a poor Assessment Task 1 grade doesnt mean the end of that subject. Weve seen amazing turnarounds from pooreven 30% weightedfirst assessment tasks (though it wont be easy). Because even a weighting of 30% is only 15% of your HSC mark for that subject. Smash that remaining 85% !!! All in all though, a great year and a great term guys. Good job!

11.01.2022 Great work Year 12 on making it half-way through your first term! Heres some tips that may come in handy this year: 1) . ... In the class, and if not then, at the end of class at least. Otherwise, a concept for that syllabus dot-point will remain unclear, and then you will forget all about it until you see it in a question in your next assessment task. Ouch. 2) --. If you miss a class, go at the end of the next class or in your own time (eg lunch) to see the teacher and find out what work you missed, what worksheets you need etc. As far as the teacher is concerned, that syllabus dot-point has been ticked off. Its up to you to make sure you catch up. And if youre very behind, dont just disregard new content to make time for catching up, otherwise it will keep building up. Make time for the new stuff, then go back and catch up. 3) . You can learn all the content in the textbook, but if you cant apply it to a question, your marker cant give you the marks. So while youre learning new stuff, do practice questions on them. A great way is to treat the actual syllabus dot-point as a question and answer that. And start doing past papers so you dont forget stuff you learnt weeks ago. And dont wait to do papers until just before trials. Once youve finished your first module, you should start doing papers. And for maths, since they are two-year courses, you should start at the beginning of Year 12. 4) . A bad mark can be daunting; especially on a first assessment task. But even if its weighting is 30%, thats only 15% of your HSC Mark for that subject. And then there are other external factors, such as your cohort and scaling. Learn from the assessment task. Be brutally honest with what went wrong in your preparation prior and your performance during the assessment, WRITE these out and reflect. Then come up with strategies to improve/solve all these problems. And youll do better in the next assessment once you apply those improved strategies to your preparation

06.01.2022 A new school year is soon approaching, and nows the time to get ready for it. We should use this time to set goals and be familiar with the types of goals for our studies. Especially you Year 12s. We should keep short term goals and long term goals.... include: - with class content - on missed content - content, writing up notes and practising questions based on the content youve learnt today/this week For Year 12s, another short term goal should be: studying for your upcoming internal assessment tasks. include: - content and questions based on the content youve already learnt in . For Year 12s, this should be in the form of staying familiar with your , and regularly doing and practice questions always keep one eye on the HSC exam creeping up. This will be subject-specific. For example, in English your long term goals could be: active reading of upcoming text, submitting a practice essay to your teacher or working on your creative response. For maths, doing a past paper a week is quite sufficient. Maintaining your short term goals will keep your internal marks high, and maintaining your long term goals will keep you ready for your trials and final HSC exam.
