24.01.2022 I spend a lot of time quoting and thought this might help and or be of interest for some wanting to power a small shack. Dear Customer hello again. There are 2 ways to look at this job if you want to run lights, have a shower and watch some TV... 1, Run everything from an Inverter. 2, Run from battery and maybe an inverter , to reduce cost At this point note that water heating/cooking is either gas or wet back wood heater Running everything from an inverter simplifies an installation, particularly so if the Dwelling is already wired and runs from a generator. Running from battery and Inverter can in some instances reduce the overall cost, but requires more specialised set up and more complex to operate. Some keen DIYers like this as they can do all the install work for all the battery driven things, which in all practicality can run a pump, lights and TV. If its a tiny shack, this is the go. If you are already wired (240v Lights and Power run by generator) and have a tiny 240v water pump and dont live there full time, you would want a good Inverter/battery and install a small solar array to recover the battery after periodical habitation. This solar array would be easily expandable. An Inverter at 1600w or more would be fine, but Inverter/charger would be better. A battery with 2.5Kwh @ 50% discharged would be of reasonable capacity. Run pump for half hour/TV/Lights for a night or 2 if you are conservative power user, maybe even 3 at a stretch. 3 solar modules, rated at 990w will certainly charge the battery between visits and keep up with demand 80% of the time, pending solar yields/shading. I will quote minimum to charge battery properly, 2 panels only for a start Most important thing is to buy the 240v water pump as small as possible, because you may want to run a washing machine as well at the same time as other things. Any pump for the mains you buy will have well enough flow. The quote came out at a little over $4K without any installation costs. I would suggest to get all this working, there would need to be a full day building the equipment panel ready to install/load vehicle ready to go. Install on site/interface with wiring at site and install the panels. Interface with the wiring. Hopefully this is a simple matter but sometimes it isnt pending whats there already. At guess with no site photos or real description of interface, install could total up to $1500 or 3 days. There are options to make the system more adaptable to expansion in the future worth about $500 in total, have a look at those Thanks for the further inquiry Enjoy the day, Matt

24.01.2022 They say you can tell how busy an Electrician by the depth of empty/full cable drums in his work bus. Looks like half way up the doors. Otherwise wiring a set of 3 Bed and Breakfast Units at North Motton, Off Grid. Job is getting to the pointy end now, happy Customers

23.01.2022 The first of the LifePo4 Battery packs is in service :) Tacked temporarily into a 12v system charging from a 60A EP Solar E Tracer MPPT and running a 12v fridge. Quite like the boxed set up offers a safe and practical place to position the Battery Management System and main fuse switch. A quick sand up and varnish to make this job nice. It may get a second pair of 70mm2 supply cables that by pass the B.M.S.Relay, they would exit the other end of the box and connect to a 3...00A fuse for driving a winch or huge inverter. Many possibilities for this type of battery system.

21.01.2022 Stock on hand. Over the last few years have added a few pieces of stock for general consumption at short notice if there is a few bucks in the procurement kitty. Mainly Victron, but there is the odd piece of gear from Plasmatronics, Latronics, SMA and Midnite Classic as there is still demand for these harder to get devices, particularly for replacements and loaners for devices out being repaired. 21.01.2022 Update on the Macquarie Harbour Toilet jobs, hardware looking good pre wired, waiting Batteries !! Hopeful they will roll up tomorrow, will also burn a few hours tonight on this job to get ready to travel and camp on site. I do get a bit proud working on something thousands of people will use.

21.01.2022 Remedial works on a 75Kw Solar Array on a large building in Burnie. Wasnt too bad a job really, just rushed and not completed as one might expect for such a large array. Job done with the Maintenance Contract under negotiation, hope I get that one. My works seem to be focused more and more on repairs and maintenance of these larger community assets. Amazing solar generator installation, idles along at 20Kw on a cloudy day, straight to 75Kw or more when the sun is out.

19.01.2022 Building this compact system up for a caravan, 50A controller, 2Kva Inverter Charger by Victron, 12v Lithium Iron Battery. Will simplify and update the Projecta charger/Inverter and Sunsaver solar regulator set up being stripped out. The Inverter can charge at up to 80A so quick recovery of battery with generator running. Scope of operation is for most normal kitchen appliances, coffee anyone ?

16.01.2022 A good thing completed after an Inverter decided to play up a bit a few weeks ago on the initial fire up of this larger system ( one of the biggest in Tas.). The 800Ah pair of 48v LifePo4 Battery packs with 3 x 5Kva Inverters in Parallel operating with over 12Kw of Solar (ac and dc coupled) and 2 x 16Kva Generators. This is a big off grid right here. Maximum output set at 10Kva continuous load operating at 3Kva or so this time of year. Proudly supported by Solar Tasmania

15.01.2022 Off Grid with the choice installation :) you would expect. Demountable is energized only a few details to sort out and the 10 solar modules, build a home for the batteries to live in. Fully integrated into home, 48v 400Ah system with 3Kva Inverter Charger with 70A MPPT from Victron Energy B.V. Blu tooth monitoring as well as local display. Will run for decades, its first job was to boil the kettle !! How sweet that cuppa was !

14.01.2022 What a massive day, thanks to Dave Breaden for his help today to get me loaded for a trip to Richmond for this complete off grid, with generator system. All Victron, 5 years warranty minimum on the system. Built and ready to install. 12 solar modules for over 3Kw (cant fit more in the van). Should be a good week if the weather holds out :)

14.01.2022 Been a big week so far, the 5kva, 43Kwh system is in service. Staying on site this one is very remote on the far West Coast and the wind is absolutely howling. 12 x 330 watt PERC half cut modules are 4.9kw and ready for many a year of service. To the 2 men helping today, you know who you are, big thanks, saved me another full day on site (not that I mind) Have a great Sunday, Ill be commissioning and buttoning up this fantastic job. Quite a few jobs on the go, so will be posting fairly often over the next month, Next are the public toilets, beach and car park, Macquarie Heads for Parks. All DC water pumping and sensor lighting. 13.01.2022 Replacing old batteries with new ones. This 900Ah BAE Zella Secura Cell pack at 24v has a very usable 10 Kwh of storage for cyclic use over decades on the wild West Coast. Lead Acid Tube Plates are proven reliable over time are a best battery choice for remote off grid power. While we were at it upgrade the solar array from 800 to 2000w. Very productive day for the Customer...

13.01.2022 A lovely little 1750 watt "off grid" solar array. Thats what it looks like 5m off the ground on a long ladder. Really big job this week to come, massive system in Richmond (South) of all places. My quote was best so I got the job ! Have a nice weekend all ! Next week I believe we will all (Off Gridders) will give up the generator until May 2020, hope Im right :)

13.01.2022 On the job building another rig. This one is a 5Kva Victron Multi, with Solar Smart 250v, 100A MPPT, BLuetooth and local monitoring. Connected battery is to be BAE OZPV900Ah, 48v a whopping 43Kwh to flat 12 x 330w (4Kw) half cut PERC Modules will kick along nice with high speed dual peak tracking Victron MPPT. Hi Tech on, 2020 kicking goals.

13.01.2022 On a mission with this one, it has 3 x 35A Victron Controllers on a single 48v battery, for 5Kw of solar array over the system. 3 tiny separate buildings side by side :) center one has the battery/controllers/inverter charger. will update as this one is installed, interesting task on a remote site and possibly one of the best ones Ive been lucky to do. Design is slightly left of field for a number of good reasons, more to come.

13.01.2022 Loading another replacement battery for delivery tomorrow. German Gel Battery, still the King of longevity/price. Superb long life seen to work for over 20 years in some installations, including my own. They just never give up.

12.01.2022 Lots of things going on after a little time out. Jobs coming/doing include a set of off grid cabins !, some more demountable homes, wiring sheds and RVs for larger solar capacity., Solar Water Pumping. Grid tied Systems + general electrical wiring Taking work on now for the run to Christmas, have good stocks of high end MPPT Controllers, Inverter/Chargers, batteries, accessories and specialised cables.

12.01.2022 NEWS Very happy to say Ive fairly well come out of the back end of a fairly horrible personal issue that has dogged me for the better part of a decade, today. May have said recently in the past I have wanted to leave the area but I just love everyone here way too much to go. Support/hospitality I have had over time with the big jobs, you know who you are. ... Plan is to get to the hill at Eagle Sea Estate and get building my Shop for all to see and love ASAP. Every day is a day closer Thanks to all who support this little Tasmanian Off Grid Power Shop over 30 years old now and still reinventing its self , opening Retail again another chapter, that and an installation bay with camping available. Keep well everyone working hard here to get things up and operating at full steam again.

10.01.2022 Getting ready to install a batch of new systems in field all the bits have turned up. This one is a mash up from the best of 2 Manufactures, Midnite Classic 150/90 and Victron 3Kva Multiplus Compact. Supplies a home down the wild West.

10.01.2022 Progress here with the job for the West Coast Council brand new Public toilets at the Macquarie Harbour (nice). On that job for the rest of the week, Off Grid Power, Water Pumping and Lighting. Interesting construction using fiber reinforced plastic stud and frame work, neat. Wont rust Most beautiful area, Council doing a great job upgrading the place no end. Dont mind if I do stay an extra day or 2, go for a long walk. Complete Contract, by 30 June, will post finished photos at the opening where the Builder will christen all three :) after all its traditional with new toilets.

Paired with 6 x 330w JA Mono PERC solar panels and a 24v 400Ah Full River Battery pack, Victron, Clipsal, GE Mod6, NoArc, proven product line up of ultimate quality and versatility. 07.01.2022 NEWS Solar Tasmania has been working successfully with Epsolarpv for over 12 years and proud to present the very first Inverter Charger for evaluation, in Australia. :) There are several in the range but this one is 12v battery based device rated at 1000w output. It also has a 30A MPPT Controller built in. It has the ability to interact with the grid for increased self consumption. I'm personally looking forward to going through all the functions and getting to know this brand new gadget.

06.01.2022 Job done at the Macquarie Harbour. Looking neat as, should live long. Still some Civil Construction to complete and Plumber to connect and run the pump, my job is signed off !! Works lovely, used quality components. Hopefully corrosion resistant, sprayed down with INOX everything fairly well that and used my best practices to inhibit corrosion.

05.01.2022 Getting jobs done, Flinders Island is a very beautiful, and peaceful place. Could hang about here for a while. Meanwhile the 8Kva Victron Quattro can drive any given load, that with the 4.75Kw array.

04.01.2022 Had a good day with an old Friend and helped set up another bore pump. This one has a hybrid pump that works on a solar array or direct from the mains power. 75K Litre per 24 hours is a great result from the 60meter deep bore.

04.01.2022 Solar Tasmania team did something outstanding here, we run a Festival entirely, in green fields without any fuel powered generator. Festival Impact Statement link below. There were weeks of work behind the scenes to pre build all the 4 Remote Power Stations, that and procure all the gear. Solar Tasmania was also responsible for all the load distribution, area and venue lighting, plus all audio and visual equipment including a medium sized PA for the 500 Folks in attendance. ...That and Produce every performance on Main Stage. The whole thing went without a hitch (well nothing not fixed in a moment), and we remain quietly proud of this effort for the 7 days of the Festival. 03.01.2022 Job in Richmond done and dusted. Customer was a bit in awe of the fact I do the lot, alone. This one is a ripper, 12 solar modules (to go to 22) 20Kwh AGM Full River blue battery pack, may go to 2 packs. 5Kva Victron MultiPlus, Inverter Charger Victron 250/70 SolarSmart with blue tooth monitoring.... Talbot Power 8.5Kva Generator. Flexibility for major expansion built in. This one is an East/West panel arrangement as the 32 degree pitch gable faces due North, required full harness and all the safety gear to be called into service. Will be back to fit an additional 12 modules as the old van will only fit 12 at once. All installed without any problem. Happy days/Customers. Nice to be home although I had some good company while away Enjoy !!

02.01.2022 Legacy off grid power systems more than 17 years old come back to life, with a little love and money :) ! Work on this one to replace the buggered battery, solar controller and a couple of busted solar panels. The system was completely re programed to suit the gel battery and re commissioned, the wiring repaired and switchboards sorted Was also asked to quote on an additional solar array with a second controller to really get the battery charging. This remote power supply used by the last generation sorted for the next generation makes me proud today. Call Matt for legacy system repairs that are kind to the pocket.

01.01.2022 I've just built among other things a stocker, Managers Special based around the very popular 3Kva Victron Multiplus Inverter Charger, with of all things a 90A Midnite Classic Controller. It's complete with AC Distribution panel, AC input breaker, DC Main Fuse Switch, DC Isolator Breakers for 50A with enclosures. Commissioned and tested pending system generator. A generator input via caravan input may be fitted to the panel also pending Customer requirements and additional.... Quality cables and connectors, painted black backing panel all wired ready to go. $3500 with GST, enquire via Messenger for this system normally over $4K. 01.01.2022 Spent a little time putting back into the Kids of our Community. The University of Tasmania, Science and Engineering Awards across Primary and Secondary Schools North West Tasmania. Judging the Exhibitors across all categories, yesterday Primary and today Secondary Students. Memorable and on reflection, there are some really talented and engaged young people ready to take on the big jobs that can and do affect everyones lives. Congratulations to the Organizers and Students involved ,you can count Solar Tasmania for Judging in the next year, thanks for having me :) was excellent.
