25.01.2022 We are thankful to our event sponsors for the 2021 Red Sky Ride. We extend gratitude to our Platinum Sponsors: Zenith Insurance Services and Global Civil and Mining (GCM). Zenith, founded by Kim Gilbert (Red Sky Ride’s founder), has supported us for 14 years. GCM has been an invaluable supporter of Solaris and the Red Sky Ride for the past two years. We also introduce our new Gold sponsors: Steadyrack and Arc Infrastructure. ... Together, their generosity has helped us continue to care for individuals with all types of cancer and at every stage of their cancer journey, from diagnosis to survivorship and palliative care. They are the reason why we are here for every West Australian!

25.01.2022 Post-cancer life should certainly be full of celebration, and for some, this might include enjoying the occasional drink. But before rushing into previous habits, survivors should reconsider the way that they consume alcohol. You can learn more on the health experts advice here in our weekly blog:

25.01.2022 Its still not too late to purchase an Entertainment membership and contribute an extra $10 to $20 to Solaris. We receive 20% from every membership but were currently receiving more thanks to Entertainments generosity. We are here for every person with cancer who walks in. We practice compassion, care and empowerment at every instance. ... Now, we ask you to help us care for more people with cancer for just $70: https://buff.ly/3h1i741

25.01.2022 That’s where things start to break down: you can’t perform at work; your relationships get strained. There’s also the idea that you’re 27 and you can’t work." These are just a few words from Red Sky Ride Kane Blackburn on how he fought through Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). Kane has supported Red Sky Ride extensively with his family, from his appreciation for Dr. David Joske and Solaris's cause. We encourage you to read his full story here: https://buff.ly/2V2m9AJ... A side note: our Red Sky Ride registrations close on November 30. This is your best chance to sign up! The first 4 riders to register this week will receive a gift valued at $89.99 from Steadyrack, our sponsors.

23.01.2022 Exercise is often overlooked as a way to release stress and develop a positive mindset. However, getting active daily is a good way to look after yourself physically, emotionally and develop social bonds with others. You don't have to go on a run or jog to exercise. You can also join a sporting club, participate in a dance class or go to a yoga session. Find the exercise that suits you best .

23.01.2022 Cancer survivors can often feel as if life has changed. Common reactions range from relief that their treatment is finished to not knowing how to cope. Uncertainty about the future, relationship struggles, workplace discrimination, psychological problems are just a few of the problems that surface. Our team of qualified professionals are here to help you move through the transition at your own pace. Weve developed a range of programs to give you support, warmth and empower...ment every step of the way. #beentherebeatthat #celebratelife #kickingcancer

22.01.2022 We all search for purpose. We all struggle with cutting toxic relationships. But why should we find our meaning in life, especially when confronted with cancer? That's exactly what our Solaris Cottesloe facilitator Cathy Brown goes through in her 'Living Life' course, starting October 21. Set across 3 weeks, Cathy will challenge you to cut the ties that bind, to search for your aim and to be grateful for all that you have. You can watch a quick 1-minute take from Cathy here:

20.01.2022 An issue that pops up, notably for cancer survivors, is the risk of infertility. In this special Tuesday edition of our blog, our writer Genevieve Mullins explores how treatments such as chemotherapy can affect fertility and what practical solutions can people with cancer access.

18.01.2022 We underestimate the power of music in helping cancer survivors through their transition. From serving as a platform for self-expression to being used for relaxation, music gives cancer survivors the chance to chart their path forward at their own pace We offer helpful tips on how you can use music to your benefit:

17.01.2022 People often underestimate the power of a good #laugh in making a day even better. Nothing works faster to bring your #mind and #body back into balance than a good laugh. After all, laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts mood, diminishes pain and protects you from the damaging effects of #stress.

17.01.2022 Our Spring Retreat Day is nearly upon us! The day retreat invites you to relax at our Cottesloe centre, with opportunities to book bodywork (Indian head massage as well as hand and foot massage) as well as experience various yogas, meditation and sound healing. We encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment: https://buff.ly/3269b9C

17.01.2022 The concentration on our riders' faces is pure zeal and spirit! We are loving the energy that emanates from this photo of them indoor training. If you're wondering why they must even train this hard, it really comes down to the strength and stamina factor. Training regularly helps their bodies adjust to the notion of persevering through 600kms. Waiting until March to begin training would leave them ill-prepared for the journey ahead.

16.01.2022 Talking about your feelings is a healthy practice. Too often, many of us shy away from doing so, either in discomfort, not wanting to hurt others or cause conflicts. However, talking can bring many subjects into perspective and give you a sense of release. This Mental Health Awareness Week, don't bottle it all up. ... Talk to someone. Tell them how you are going. Ask how they are going. Initiate a conversation of change.

Lily expects to run these free courses more frequently - stay tuned for more dates into the future.

11.01.2022 How lucky are we at Solaris Cancer Care Cottesloe to have our personally designed dreamcatcher, courtesy of our generous and inspirational volunteers? The dreamcatcher hangs in our Wanslea room where most of our special courses, regular activities such as meditation and guest speaker events run. Native Americans first established that dreamcatchers were protective talisman against nightmares and bad dreams. At Solaris, our larger dreamcatcher is more so an artistic display of hope, strength and love, that gives our people with cancer the motivation to live their best life and to fight.

01.01.2022 The world today, constantly on the run, has made many of us develop large to-do lists that can easily cause much anxiety if tasks are left unfinished. A good way to build up to the task, without feeling stressed, is to take things one at a time and break the task down into bite-sized chunks. You will find yourself moving towards the task with a smile.

01.01.2022 Why does supporting Solaris Cancer Care matter? Honestly, you are impacting more people than you think you are Often, cancer patients are left confused, particularly when they are just newly diagnosed. Support is the most important aspect of their journey forward but the question surfaces on what type of support, how much it costs and where. At Solaris, we prioritise the person, living with cancer, at all times. From the time individuals step in, we help them understand wh...at we offer, how they can access it, and the integrative therapies such as reiki and meditation they can use weekly. Most of this is at zero cost to them - but running all of this takes time, manpower and money. That's where YOU come in. When you support Solaris through the hard times such as COVID-19, you are empowering over 10,000 West Australian families living with cancer. So thank you for all that you have done and please continue to help us!

01.01.2022 Weve just started spring and we can hear many birds, from cockatoos to lorikeets, singing all hours of the day in groups. This reminds us very much of our own support crew. 01.01.2022 Our current Great Southern CSM Gillian Robertson shared a few photos of their recent lunch gathering to bid former Great Southern CSM Saskia Wiseman goodbye: "Saskia has been such a gem and we will really miss her, there was lots of love and we managed to smile all through lunch with social distancing and elbow touching!" This is what we are all about at Solaris. We are family. We are united.

01.01.2022 For some, journaling is akin to a fad. However, having a gratitude journal and spending 5 minutes reflecting on your day can help you go a long way. Take the time after work to reflect on what little things you accomplished and are grateful for. It doesn't have to be the big things like conference, meetings, grants, bids etc. It can even be about the fine weather outside.
