11.01.2022 Wishing all our clients and friends a wonderful Christmas and safe New Year. This is our treasured pup Lochie getting into the spirit . We've been a bit quiet on the socials due to being busy in the clinic but looking forward to seeing you all in 2020!
11.01.2022 Some viewing for all the heel pain sufferers out there. A recent LaTrobe University study on treating plantar heel pain (aka plantar fasciitis) has shown orthotic therapy to be superior compared to steroid injections for relief at 12 weeks . Athough, the researchers report a steroid injection may still be valuable in the early days for initial pain relief. As I tell my patients, there is not one magic treatment but rather a combination of therapies which can help including orthotics, steroid injection, dry needling, weight loss, strengthening exercises, footwear, taping and modified activity. My number 1 recommendation? ...See a podiatrist to discuss which treatment or combination therapy is right for you https://twitter.com/i/status/1190138752032600065

10.01.2022 Isn't the human body amazing! Healthy babies are all born with bow legs and as they grow and develop their legs correct themselves to optimise their biomechanics. If you are concerned these changes aren't happening within appropriate timeframes, your child isn't keeping up with their peers or is complaining of leg and foot pain, it's a good idea to seek professional guidance. Interventions can include 'watch and wait', simple fun exercises, footwear choices and occasionall...y orthotics for older children if required. 06.01.2022 Tight calves? Sore heels and feet? Have you tried Dry Needling? Curious? In many cases, improved mobility is immediate and decreased pain is generally felt within 0-48 hours by targeting myofascial trigger points with superfine dry needles. Typically, it may take a few treatment sessions (such as once a week for 2-3 weeks) for a lasting effect depending on individual needs. Areas targeted include the lower leg and feet as deemed appropriate following a thorough assessment. Th...is treatment is well tolerated and minimal discomfort is reported by our clients Phone 5442 5288 or message Jen directly for appointments . . . #bendigopodiatrist #solefitpodiatry #dryneedling #tightcalves #heelpain #footpain
06.01.2022 Just to show your life is not over when you need orthotics This beautiful client came to us 3 months post a high grade ankle sprain via our friends at Central Victoria Integrated Clinic and was facing surgical reconstruction if things didn't improve. We sourced suitable but cute summer footwear from Ziera Shoes combined with schmick custom 3D printed orthotics with lateral wedging from Orthotech Laboratory to help guard against further inversion injury. Notice the broad shoe base and the adjustable ankle security giving our client confidence when walking. Along with dedicated proprioceptive strengthening this lovely lady is now looking forward to her wedding in January and could not be happier with the outcome! #happyfeet #happyclient #happypodiatrist #bendigopodiatrist #solefitpodiatry #anklesprain
05.01.2022 Friday facts HEEL SPURS The warmer weather often results in people being more physically active. This means we see an increased amount of overuse injuries. The most common being HEEL PAIN ... Despite popular belief, SPURS are often a byproduct of stress and less so the cause of heel symptoms Heel spurs develop due to repetitive plantar fascial stress at its attachment point on the base of the calcaneus (heel bone). In response to this trauma the body re-models the bone in an attempt to strengthen the area , creating a spur. Large heel spur's can be found on Xrays even in those without any symptoms One cause of heel pain is in response to the micro-tearing of the plantar fascia itself It's important to find and address the cause of this stress on the plantar fascia, in order to gain long-term relief SoleFit Podiatry can help determine the cause of your heel pain and offer the most appropriate treatments for you! And please don't under-estimate the use of a quality pair of exercise shoes They need to suit both your foot posture and your activites. Need help? 5442 5288
