20.01.2022 Last video from the rally standing against anti-Chinese racism being promted by teh government in response to the coronavirus. Final speech from the Anti-Colonial Asian Alliance and last words from Paddy Gibson. Well doen to everyone who turned up to send a message that racism will not be tolerated.

18.01.2022 More speeches from the important "No to racism - lift the travel ban from China" rally in Sydney yesterday. Coronavirus is a medical problem, it won't be solved by Morrison's lies and racism. Speakers in this vid are Michael Thompson, Secretary NTEU NSW, and Abbey Shi and Liam Donahoe from Sydney Uni SRC.

18.01.2022 Strong voices here from Gadigal elder aunty Rhonda Dixon, Paul Silva nephew of David Dungay Jr, and Paddy Gibson from Solidarity, repeating the call for people to come and rally on Tuesday July 28th . We have a right to protest against the racist killing of Indigenous people in this country and we will keep coming out on the streets until justice is done. Charge the prison guards! Money for community health and education, not police and incarceration.

18.01.2022 The workers at Panasonic subsidiary Hussman have now been out on strike for 10 days. At this particular warehouse in Western Sydney they import and repair heating/cooling storage systems for big supermarket companies such as Woolworths, Coles and Aldi. Today comrades went down to visit their picket line and stand in solidarity with them. ... The company has continued to operate though out lockdown with factory workers having to work to meet KPIs and operate at the same capacity, in fact whilst workers were pushing on through lockdown Panasonic’s profits increased this year raking in 10s of millions more this year. Their demands are for a very reasonable 3% increase to keep up with the rest of the country, where as management have only offered 2%. This industrial action is not only about receiving a fair wage but also having fairer conditions. They are demanding respect and a pushback against bullying too from upper management. The workers stand strong together at the picket line and have been valiantly fighting for their right to fair pay and conditions in the midst of this crisis- Please donate to support the striking workers here: https://chuffed.org/proje/support-striking-hussmann-workers

17.01.2022 Tomorrow's Black Lives Matter rally is still going ahead, despite the NSW Supreme Court decision to declare it "unauthorised". Organisers have vowed to proceed. Thousands will still attend and no one should be deterred. If the over 10,000 who say they are attending on Facebook turn up, there will be little the police can do to stop us. The revolt going on across the US is no ordinary event, it is a desperate outpouring of rage against racist police and brutal inequality. Thos...e on the streets there, as well as the Indigenous communities here who suffer the same treatment every day, deserve our solidarity and support. There have been large solidarity protests around the world including in places much harder hit by COVID-19 than Australia like Britain, France and Germany. Last weekend thousands were allowed to gather at a 5G conspiracy theory rally in Sydney without police harassment. If we take sensible precautions, the risk of spreading the virus at an outdoor rally is far smaller than in many workplaces and schools. We cannot allow health orders to be used to remove our right to protest. Join us tomorrow at 3pm at Sydney Town Hall https://www.facebook.com/events/246881229969044 See more

17.01.2022 Students and staff take back the right to protest at Sydney Uni, in the face of relentless cuts. Four actions of 19 people converged safely yesterday at Usyd to protest job cuts and police repression. Strong show of staff and students. The F23 admin building was rushed by a section of the protest. We wont pay for their crisis.

13.01.2022 Good on the people from Cobargo! Morrison is trying to expand coal fired power plants while the country is burning up from fires that are turbo-charged by climate change!

12.01.2022 "Over the last two years Labour has edged closer and closer to a Remain position and called for a second referendum. It was a major shift from its 2017 policy of Labour accepts the referendum result and we will seek to unite the country around a Brexit deal that works for every community in Britain. This new approach was disastrous. It alienated swathes of those who voted Leave. Labour's vote fell on average by more than 10 percentage points in the most pro-Leave areas - a...lthough it also fell by more than six points in the most pro-Remain ones. The Lexit position of fighting for a workers Brexit was derided by many in Labour, but it was right."

11.01.2022 First action as part of the #healthbeforeprofit day of protest. Resistance is a necessity. Private hospitals have been given an extension so they don't have to adhere to the government ban on election surgery. They are using up precious supplies and masks. Millions face unemployment as employers who have bled their workers dry for years lay them off. Those that are still working often lack appropriate PPE and safety plans and if they are on insecure contracts lack sick leave ...or special leave to survive the shut down. For the unemployed the corona virus supplement has a 5 week wait and those pension and disability payments wont get it. People cant pay rent an mortgages. We need to fight back. It not too late to join the action today. Make a sign and take a photo to send a message and show solidarity and share it with the #healthbeforeprofit hashtag. Or join one of the events on today, details here: https://facebook.com/events/s/day-of-action-for-workers-live/521546192117827/?ti=cl #workerswontpay #specialleaveforall #M1M

10.01.2022 NATIONAL REFUGEE PROTEST TOMORROW! Anti protest threats were defied tonight by hundreds of Black Lives Matter protesters in Sydney. The Public Health Association Chief exec is say protests can go ahead safely. ... Morrison is a vile hypocrite and a committed racist and we must fight back. Hundreds of refugees brought from Manus and Nauru are being held in detention centres and hotels in Melbourne and Brisbane. Many have not received the medical care for which they were brought here. The government has refused calls to release them during the pandemic despite the high-risk detention environment. The refugees are continuing to stage regular protests inside detention to call for their freedom. Refugee supporters are again holding protests outside detention hotels in Melbourne and Brisbane on the weekend of 13 June. Join us in Sydney to rally in solidarity and demand that the government free all the refugees now. Please observer coronavirus precautions if you are coming to this rally on Saturday: * Dont attend if you have been unwell * Wear a mask if you can, RAC will also have its own supply of masks for those who dont have one * Practice social distancing by standing spread apart from others at the rally and on the march. RAC will have marshalls to help remind everyone and facilitate this * We will also provide a hand santisier station at the event for those who need it (location will be announced from the speakers platform)

10.01.2022 UK rail unions are mobilising against attacks on the Right to Strike. We need the same here in Australia!

10.01.2022 Join our essential post-election panel tomorrow night. Incredible line-up of U.S. speakers from Black Lives Matter, Democratic Socialists of America and Marx 21.

09.01.2022 A strong showing today at the Black Lives Matter rally in Djarrbarrgali (the Domain). The ability to even have the protest free from police harassment under the guise of Covid-19 laws was hard fought- in the streets and in the courts. The action coincided with the start of the NSW Parliamentary inquiry into Aboriginal deaths in custody. This was forced on the parliament by the courageous resistance of the Dungay family, the Reynolds family and many others as well as mass pro...test throughout the year. The rally demanded the inquiry to establish an independent, First Nations-led body to investigate deaths in custody and urgent action to get people out of prison. It also called for a transition resources out of systems that unfairly lock Aboriginal people up into community alternatives. After the rally we heard that Zach Rolfe the killer cop who shot dead Kumanjayi Walker in Yuendumu in the NT last year has been charged with murder. This is historic. It is the first time a police Officer will stand trial for the murder over an Indigenous death in custody in Australia. The Walpiri community has led a powerful campaign for justice that forced action from the courts. We will need more mass protest and class power to get real change. To learn more about the rich history of resistance to racism read our coverage in this month's Soli mag about William Cooper, the Aboriginal activist and unionist who helped found on of the first political movements for Aboriginal rights. https://www.solidarity.net.au//william-cooper-activist-wh/ Photo credit Aman Kapoor

07.01.2022 Strong stand against Morrison and Dutton's racist fear-mongering about coronavirus in Sydney yesterday. Check out the speeches from Jenny Leong, MP and NSW Greens Multiculturalism spokesperson and Erin Chew from the Asian Australian Alliance.

06.01.2022 Today we joined the family of David Dungay Jr, defying police and Liberal party threats to take to the streets of Sydney. David was killed on camera in Long Bay in 2015 and our demands were for justice, an end to mass incarceration of Indigenous people and an end to the apartheid on the NT intervention. Fund communities not cops and prisons. The protest was met with disgraceful police repression, hypocritically under the guise of Covid-19 public health orders. There were a... number of arrests and fines. Protests didn't create the Covid-19 spike- the people we are protesting against did. All the evidence from Victoria points to employer negligence and workplace transmission and inadequate health resources are to blame. The Libs and cops were concerned about us spreading our anti-racist message, not Covid 19. Down the road at Pitt St Mall hundreds gathered to shop, mostly without masks. Despite the attempts to silence our message, over 100 000 petition signatures were delivered to NSW parliament by the Dungay family demanding charges be laid on the guards that killed David Dungay Jr. Our ability to make such a massive public statement is a testament to the courage of the Dungay family and the mass anti-racist work of supporters. Solidarity with the inspiring #blacklivesmatter struggle in the U.S. The protest will not stop until we get justice and smash this racist system. Thanks Aman Kapoor for the photos

05.01.2022 Solidarity joined hundreds on the streets of Sydney today protesting Scomo's uni fee hike.

03.01.2022 Out building the upcoming Black Lives Matter protest to stop black deaths in custody today. Strong response. The action will be on Sunday July 5, 1pm in the Domain. ... https://facebook.com/events/s/stop-black-deaths-in-custody-b/4110164879055493/?ti=cl If you want to help poster and leaflett station message the page. The BLM protests here have already had an impact with WA government being forced to get rid of its policy of imprisoning people for not paying fines. In 2014 Yamatji woman Ms Dhu died in custody after being imprisoned for non payment of fines. Now we need to keep building the power we need to get justice and for deep change. The protest will demand: Stop Black Deaths in Custody - Justice Now! Defund Police and Prisons - Build Communities Shut Youth Prisons - Bring the Children Home Stop the NT Intervention #StopBlackDeathsInCustody #BlackLivesMatter

02.01.2022 The black lives matter protest tomorrow has been moved to the Domain, 12 noon. No justice, no peace. I CANT BREATHE - BLACK LIVES MATTER JUSTICE FOR DAVID DUNGAY JNR AND ALL BLACK DEATHS IN CUSTODY... https://www.facebook.com/events/745934522844647/

02.01.2022 A great action today to show solidarity with refugees protesting the unsafe conditions in detention. The use of public heath orders to stifle protest imperils us all and puts refugees in immense danger. #freetherefugees... #detentionisaninfectionrisk See more

02.01.2022 Hussmann-Panasonic workers resist attacks from a major multinational that was happy for them to work through the pandemic but wouldn't cough up a measly 3% pay rise. The dispute is ongoing. Get down to 66 Glendenning road Glendenning to visit the picket and donate to the strike fund. Link in article. https://www.solidarity.net.au//ten-days-on-strike-and-cou/

02.01.2022 PROTEST TOMORROW Location: Department of Home Affairs (Immigration and Citizenship services) Speakers include:... Jenny Leong, MP and NSW Greens Multiculturalism spokesperson Michael Thompson, Secretary NTEU NSW Plus a speaker from the University of Sydney Students' Representative Council Lift the travel ban from China and implement a health based approach No to quarantine on Christmas Island Support international students wanting to come to Australia No to racism and politics of fear Solidarity with Wuhan and Chinese community Last week, the World Health Organisation declared the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) a public health emergency. A serious public health response is certainly needed in Australia to minimise the spread of infection and properly treat anyone who is sick. However, the decision by the Morrison government to deny all entry to Australia for people travelling from China (apart from Australian citizens and permanent residents) was directly counter to the advice of the World Health Organisation not to close down borders. Morrison is more concerned with appearing tough on borders and stoking fear in the community than with a proper health response. Many Chinese people are reporting an increase in racism in daily life. This travel ban will have a massive disruptive effect on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, including many students preparing to travel to Australia to study. The use of Christmas Island detention centre to quarantine Australian citizens being evacuated from Hubei province must also be challenged. The Australian Medical Association has criticised its use as inhumane given the long history of trauma in the centre for refugees held in offshore detention. People being evacuated should be brought to the Australian mainland where they can access appropriate medical care. Join us at this rally to stand against racism, and to stand with all Chinese people and the city of Wuhan and the Hubei province suffering at the epicentre of the spread of infection.
