24.01.2022 Recently there has been a large increase in COVID-19 phishing emails. We request you stay vigilant and always be wary of emails from accounts you dont knowespecially those offering free money. Among the scams the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has been made aware of is a COVID-19 relief payment email, offering $2,500 in assistance. Recipients are required to download and fill an application form, which contains an embedded macro that downloads malicious software. T...here is also one that looks as though the World Health Organisation (WHO) sent it and has an attached document that runs dangerous software when opened. If you or your employees are concerned about your email security (or think they have clicked on something they shouldnt have), please reach out to one of our experts today and we will do all possible to assist.

07.01.2022 What a lovely surprise it was to receive this plant and thank you card from one of the the students at Mount Eliza Secondary College! We recently teamed up with Mt Eliza Community Bank Branch to provide a number of students with remote wi-fi dongles to assist with their remote learning. After the kids had gone to bed we came together to share some drinks and laughter while working through difficult questions from Allan van Dungen and Matthew Gordon. Responses varied from overconfident to surprised, but we had a lot of fun and it was great to reconnect with coworkers; ensuring our culture stays strong and helping take the edge off physical isolation.

04.01.2022 THESE TYPES OF SCAMS HAPPEN DAILY via ecommerce, text messages, phone calls and email. The grandfather of one of our team sold his caravan to an interested party, not realising that person was a scammer. The scammer paid him via PayPal, then sent a fake invoice showing they had overpaid by $2,000. He was then asked to transfer the overpaid money back via Western Union. Being the lovely man that he is, he was happy to do so. After he had left for his local branch, his daug...hter caught wind of the sale and called his grandson, our Corporate Services Manager, Allan. Allan immediately called his grandfather and thankfully they had the transfer cancelled. This is a cautionary tale that anyone can be caught by these scams. As highlighted last week by the Prime Minister (under the advice from the Australian CyberSecurity Centre, link further below) ORGANISATIONS ARE NOW BEING TARGETEDnot just grandparents. Phishing attacks are taking the below forms: - Links to credential harvesting websites. - Emails with links to malicious files, or with the malicious file directly attached. - Links prompting the users to grant office 365 authentication tokens to the scammer. - Use of email tracking services to identify the email opening and lure click-through events. To safeguard yourself from these kinds of attacks, multi-factor authentication should be applied to all internet-accessible remote access services. These include: - Web and cloud-based email (including Office365). - Collaboration platforms. - Virtual private network connections. - Remote desktop services.
