25.01.2022 Back to peaceful Hobart, feeling sated by a week of connecting back to pre spinal & early vertebrate movement. Touching into & out of deep patterns of being in movement through gentle awareness. The following are a few thoughts sparked by my week of immersion into being a body of movement. This week has been a time to remember & find ways to yield to surface, discovering yield in the very cells & fluid of our body which then initiates & allows a natural curiosity to seek & ...search. Movement that transforms naturally from a supportive yield to push, reach, pull & back to yield. Explorations in being in our world, inner to outer & back to inner.... a constant pulsation. The snake appeared during the Sydney Rd festival while I was in Brunswick & represents many things. In the context of movement; spinal fluidity - the head reaches the body follows. The unfurling of the fern frond; reach through the cells up & out. Movement is life. To survive, & ideally to thrive, life requires a safe space in which to yield, to then follow the urge to move outward with the knowledge & security of returning to safety. Trauma ruptures connections & a safety. Gentle explorations of movement in a supportive & playful environment allows the possibility of fragmented parts to begin to connect. Revisiting, remembering, restoring, transforming... life is movement. Wishing all gentle movement & the possibility of a safe place to yield to rest & exploration

24.01.2022 A useful little infographic from Deb Dana of our autonomic nervous system activation. I really like the idea of climbing up the ladder & looking out on the world & feeling safe enough to engage with parts of it. Hoping you inhabit a safe space & get some ventral connection this weekend

24.01.2022 Physical isolation goes against our need to be close with those we trust. It creates possible signals of threat & lack of safety. These otters are modelling such delicious snuggles. Feel into it. Hugs to all

23.01.2022 In this tough & unfamiliar time it is absolutely natural that our nervous system will respond with variations of freeze & shut/down. This great article is well worth reading.

23.01.2022 Taras very beautiful, gentle & soft account of finding home in her embodied self

22.01.2022 Highlight today... arrival of my new business cards & sticker for SETI leaflet. Separately ordered but were delivered via post & printer in the same morning. Not the time to promote but a nice buzz to see a completed project.

21.01.2022 You can either give in to your fear and anxiety, or you can take this time to train yourself in steadiness, trust, the ability to have a broader perspective, an...d perhaps more than anything, to develop your sense of care and connection for everyone else. Put your fears and anxieties aside, and tell them: Thank you for trying to protect me, but Im okay for now. Every day, pause, put your hand on your heart, and tell yourself: Let me hold all of what Im worried about with a tender compassion. Let me hold myself, my worries, my family, and my friends. May they all be safe. May we all hold ourselves with tenderness and compassion. #jackkornfield #timferriss Repost: @podcastnotesofficial Excerpt: @timferriss podcast ep.414 See more

21.01.2022 Some gentle movements from the deep sea. Watching such beautiful effortless movement can teach our body new ways to inhabit self.

20.01.2022 Sometimes life can feel as precarious as a rock balancing on a pedestal of ice. Nature is a wonderful teacher. The worlds elements shift & change constantly, so to do our states of being. Noticing support, allowing that present moment of connection can be a mammoth effort. ... It may bring a feeling of joy, desire, yearning, fulfilment, happiness... while also eliciting the paradox of feelings of distrust, surprise, confusion, sadness, disgust, uncertainty. Emotions are complex. Our history is complex, woven with colours & textures of multiple experiences. Each experience we encounter ‘read’ through the colours of our past interactions & interpretations. The touch of support, the invitation of a possibility, acknowledgement of our human vulnerability to connect & begin toward trust is a fragile & precious thing. Healing connection when our world feels unsafe, we feel alone or are taking new steps to remember or learn how to receive support may begin with the smallest of noticing: a gentle breeze cooling a heated brow, a warm sip of a favourite drink on a cold morning, a smile from a trusted person, the weight of a companion animal, the colour of a plant, the tough of a favourite blanket, the flight of a bird. Support is found in many miriad ways. Sending out support & gentle holding as we all navigate through our life today

20.01.2022 Hand - heart - connection

19.01.2022 Seeing, feeling, mirroring.... movement

19.01.2022 Relational connection.... we may be wired for it but without a sense of some sort of safety its really tough to be with. Love the concept of our Route of Safety & this article for its gentle non-judging or proscribing view of being in relationship & possibilities for growing our nervous systems sense of choice.

18.01.2022 While this article relates to early learning it is important to remember learning occurs within an environment of experiences of safety, protection &/or threat. If intelligence is defined as the ability to learn, children between the ages of 2 and 7 may be the most intelligent humans on the planet.

16.01.2022 Wishing everyone a moment to spread their ears & jump with lightness & joy

16.01.2022 Satisfying... fun... happy... movement. Even if you can’t participate, maybe it’s possible to just soften a bit & watch as your body internally responds to this guys energy & dance.

15.01.2022 Some very useful touch holds for helping with stress, especially those anxious moments. Even watching engages our mirror neurons & can help bring in some ease

14.01.2022 From Australia with love... hoping your connections are safe, snuggly & as cute as this one

14.01.2022 Yes! Care is the cure.... but its not so simple a request. Learning to offer & receive care - to self & others is modelled to us by our earliest carers & the ongoing experiences of our life history. The path toward secure caring is too often a bumpy one. Perhaps we learnt that in order to maintain connections we must practice care for others while denying our own boundaries & needs. To shut our sense of self out. ... Or perhaps we learn to not care as it opens us to vulnerability & the possibility of further pain too great to tolerate. We learn to shut others out & act like we dont care. These extreme points of a care continuum are unconscious acts of shutting out: our realisation of self or of an other. I so agree with Leunigs statement care is the cure. To become kinder more compassionate humans we need to find the courage to look into how we know how to care - for others & ourself

14.01.2022 Becoming aware of how we may be unconiously blocking activation takes practice & mindful attention. One way is by identifying behavioural patterns.

13.01.2022 Trauma... it is complex. For a child evolving through connection with others, learning what works & doesnt, what is encouraged, nourished or denied - trauma can be as simple as missing necessary support at significant times or over extended periods.

13.01.2022 A lovely joyful little film to invite us all to keep jiggling, wiggling, bumping, tapping.... To keep moving wherever, whenever, however

07.01.2022 I wonder if moving / dancing, with safe & trusted friends, creates a waterfall of pleasant body chemicals

07.01.2022 Up the stairs & behind the arched windows you come to SOMAtherapy Connections new space. A spacious, private place to explore your world & experiences. A space to allow attention toward inner/outer movement & to co-create a sense of safety, expansion & settling of emotion, thought & activity. For me this is a dreamed ambition made real. 07.01.2022 Important. This is a tough & confusing time for kids, find ways to help yourself stay grounded & present so you can help support their systems growth through this difficult time. Dont hesitate to reach out for support. Support & needing help is natural & normal.

06.01.2022 Letting that salty water leak out of our eyes helps us regulate. Crying is normal & for everyone when we feel strong emotions

06.01.2022 Snuggle up & listen to a great story read from space about Rosie Revere & how she leant that failure is normal & ok with the right support. But to give up on your dreams is not

05.01.2022 Trauma: is what happened overwhelming our capacity to cope AND what was not there offering us safety & support when we needed it. Trauma is neurophysiological. Experienced through our senses to our cognition. It permeates into our very being creating adaptive survival strategies which become fused with how we see ourselves. How we experience life. How we connect with each other & the world we live in. Healing begins when we are able to feel some semblance of safety within a ...relational connection. With self & others. Therapy is relational An attuned therapist builds trust slowly with respect to the pace a clients autonomic nervous system can tolerate. Drop by drop. Step by step. Over time the traumatised system begins to expand, flex, move, strengthen creating opportunities & choices the once rigid threat vigilant self was unable to even contemplate.

04.01.2022 Boarding school.... possible relational ruptures, neglect, abuse. Christines history sparked her to explore & understand the legacy of her early life experiences. Relational ruptures, or absence of nourishing connections, lead to adaptations which we may survive but with a diminished sense of safety toward self & others. Secure attachment helps as establish a resilient capacity & ability to connect with safety, love & joy. ... Our neurophysiology is a complex & dynamic organism & with support, compassion & understanding it is possible to heal attachment wounds & life a life connected to self, others & our planet home
