23.01.2022 It is difficult not to be a tad neurocentric but, after all, we would not know or be anything without the nervous system (in all its glory!):

21.01.2022 Complements of ISMETA, some free courses and discussions to help ease our way through these difficult times:

21.01.2022 A little something to start the weekend off with - not that interoception is a little thing!: https://jsmf.org/meeti/2007/oct-nov/CONB%20Craig%202003.pdf

20.01.2022 In these strangest times, this is one of the simplest and most pertinent shares I can make:

19.01.2022 The link to the Olga Pollatos paper on "Neural Systems Connecting Interoceptive Awareness and Feelings" from Human Brain Mapping 28:9 18(2007) that I mentioned in the workshop this Sunday past: https://sci-hub.io/10.1002/hbm.20258

18.01.2022 A different kind of Morris dancing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a86994YYbfU

16.01.2022 So mindfulness is a waste of time? Therapeutic presence cant be quantified? Try this quick paper: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles//fnhum.2017.00368/full

16.01.2022 An interesting article linking personality to scoliosis. Boy, do I feel ambivalent about this little leap: https://scoliosisjournal.biomedcentral.com//s13013-017-013

15.01.2022 An interesting article that caught my attention, posted by my confrere Aran Bright on the AMT Facebook page: http://www.aptei.ca//Manual-Therapy-Paradigm-Shift-2016.pdf

15.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch

14.01.2022 Scoliosis does not mean back pain. Most considerations for treatment are aesthetic, functional considerations a distant second. So why the desire for invasive surgery? It only replaces one relatively harmless dysfunction ( a rotated spine) with another (a rigid spine.) Some light on the big myth: http://scoliosisjournal.biomedcentral.com//s13013-016-0086

14.01.2022 With one of the great thought leaders in working with the body, David Butler, who has inspired the way I work immensely! With gratitude! Good fashion sense as well!

13.01.2022 A little fuel for the fire in the barefoot running debate, and more than a little food for thought: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_rDFa6kZf

13.01.2022 Link to the paper I referenced on head rotational issues in equilibrioception, the sense of balance: https://www.mcgill.ca//vestibu/27_angelaki_cullen_2008.pdf

13.01.2022 An interesting article for those of us who do intra-oral work in our clinics: https://www.cureus.com//16486-the-anatomical-relationships

12.01.2022 So, what do you think of the concept that the 6th, 7th and 8th senses might hold the key to why bodywork, be it Rolfing or massage, works? Balance (6th), Proprioception (7th) and Interoception (8th) may be the future we should be focussing on as a field. This is something the Body Mind Centring people already know. A little something to start the weekend off with (pardon the prepositions!): https://jsmf.org/meeti/2007/oct-nov/CONB%20Craig%202003.pdf

10.01.2022 Massage that fulfils the need for physical distancing and may (or may not) comply with all the relevant confusing and frequently contradictory and conflicting Federal and state laws regarding massage in the times of the Covid 19 pandemic:

10.01.2022 "the basal ganglia, which regulate motor control, are also crucial elements in the circuits that confer human linguistic ability and abstract reasoning. The cerebellum, traditionally associated with motor control, is active in motor learning. The basal ganglia are also key elements in reward-based learning." Vocalisation, walking, balancing and advanced cognition all affect the same area of the brain: http://www.selmacyoushondar.com//P.Lieberman%20-%20On%20Th

10.01.2022 Nice to see that the message regarding more movement to counter poor postural habit is starting to make it into popular media https://theconversation.com/health-check-can-bad-posture-gi

10.01.2022 Stay safe, Stay connected, Stay an appropriate social distance and Stay Amused! Now I know finally why we need lots of toilet paper in these interesting times!

09.01.2022 Celebrating the birthday of Dr Ida Rolf, born 19 May 1896.

08.01.2022 An interesting article on pain and the brain: https://www.jci.org/articles/view/86812

07.01.2022 This interesting map of the somatic lineage is from Martha Eddys book "Mindful Movement." It is a good starting point; what do you think should be changed in it (if anything)?

07.01.2022 "Physiotherapists often default to biomechanical explanations for pain due to a lack of confidence in managing and treating psychosocial influences - but perhaps these biomechanical explanations for pain actually validate an individuals experience." Or perhaps continuing in the comfortable construct you were trained in is a lot easier than trying to work in an evolving paradigm - which in itself may be just another construct, perhaps.

07.01.2022 This paper is a little old, but shows considerations about interoception in treatment arent that new: http://www.jabfm.org/content/16/2/131.long

07.01.2022 To quote from the article: " How do we know that the increased or decreased kinematics that arises after analysis is not the result of pain rather than the cause of it? The assumption is often it is the cause, one that relies on a Cartesian tissue stress/nociceptive/bottom up driven model of pain.":

06.01.2022 An interesting piece of research on the relationship of gait and personalty, from the Journal of Nonverbal Behaviour (DOI 10.1007/s10919-016-0240-1): http://www.readcube.com/articles/10.1007/s10919-016-0240-1

04.01.2022 Corn of the commentator aside, how many out there were exposed to this style of dance in their life? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZPFifDkQFI

04.01.2022 As many clients know, I ceased trading temporarily at close of business on the 13th of March due to the looming threat to society of the Corona virus escalating.... I took this move ahead of any legislation, following my conscience, social and community concern, and professional belief in the Hippocratic oath, especially the first section of it: Primum Non Nocere - Firstly, Do No Harm. I initially said I would remain closed until April 1st, however, events have overtaken even my concerns of 17 days ago and it is now legislation that I cannot see clients face to face in my clinic for the time being. I do not regard this as regrettable: I will remain closed for in-person sessions until government legislation indicates that it safe for me to resume practice. In the mean-time, I will be offering on-line consultations. These will consist of assessments, demonstrating self administered techniques and teaching movement strategies to assist in enhancing well being. As most of you know, movement usually constitutes a decent percentage of any session with me. These on-line sessions will just be an extension of that movement component. I envision that these session will be of shorter duration than my normal sessions, around 20 -30 minutes maximum. Stayed tuned: I will keep you posted of up-dates and how these will progress. Stay well in these troubled times and I will see you when life returns to something resembling normal. Best wishes to all Colin.

04.01.2022 Enjoyed this fantastic art exhibition today in Munich, called #boxtape . Will definitely suggest for the www.fasciacongress.org organizing committee to invite these guys. Its not only a lot of fun, very educational, but also a great workout.

03.01.2022 This gives those who of use who do interventions with the body some pause for thought about effect and randomness: https://www.nytimes.com//26/science/crumple-paper-math.html

03.01.2022 For Bodyworkers, from the AMT FB page: It is articles like this that really great my intellectual juices going! Merleau-Ponty here I go! A must read for practitioners of all persuasions - stick with it to the end! http://criticalphysio.net//Connectivity-printed-version.pdf

03.01.2022 As if there arent already a lot of good reasons to...

03.01.2022 A paper on Interoception and anxiety & depression: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2886901/

02.01.2022 The wonderful Tasha Stanton presenting at AMTs 50th Anniversary conference last year. Her paper on pain and perception hadnt been published at this stage, but she encapsulates a lot of its content in this presentation. This is well worth watching in full; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWvyLJkBrLY&feature=youtu.be
