Specifically, Oscar Wildes hilarious romance, "The Importance of Being Earnest". ... Well be meeting on Saturday at 4:00pm on Zoom to talk about why Oscar Wilde thought he was funny, what exactly he was poking fun at, and why its relevant - if it is at all! If youre interested in joining in, take a look at our FB page, or follow the link in our bio for more info! Or just PM us and well send you the info pack! 21.01.2022 Well, we cant be in them. So why not just read them, watch them, talk about them? We thought it would be fun to host a playreading group. So this is the test - just the first session, to see whether or not youre interested. We would recommend a play one week out - much like a bookclub recommending a book - and enjoy it when we can during the week. Then, when the group is open, we can talk about whether we enjoyed it, whether we thought it was relevant and why, whether there... are issues with it, and anything we want! If were interested we could even have readings of scenes in the group! Our first session went so well that were looking at doing it weekly! So cool! Next on our list is the classic and influential "The Seagull" by Anton Chekhov - the play that, according to some, is the formative play of the 20th Century! Well be ripping it apart to see how it works, so get excited! More details in the event!

20.01.2022 Woyzeck by Georg Bchner | PLAY CLUB Someone New is hosting a weekly play club - we cant be in them, but we can talk about them! One and all are welcome to join in: all you need to do is read or watch the play, and then join in on our Zoom chat on Saturday at 6:00pm to 7:00pm! Well ask questions, discuss topics, and dissect the text until were satisfied! ... If youre interested, find our group, Well, we cant be in them, on Facebook or DM us for more info! Well send you through places to find the text and the Zoom link! See you there!

17.01.2022 MEET THE CAST | The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Fred Preston NEVILLE ST. CLAIR & MR MERRYWEATHER... Fred first acted at Secondary school in Scotland (a scrawny 11-year old Hercules), finished his early acting ‘career’ at Secondary school in Australia (Oh! What a lovely war!) and rested on his laurels for some 30 years. Since moving to Torquay, Fred has been involved with Torquay Theatre Troupe, participating in nearly 50 plays in parts large and small, plus several gigs with Geelong Rep. (Arsenic, Lysystrata, Foreigner) all of which he has enjoyed enormously. COVID-19 has meant delays to plays for 2020 but we’ll come back stronger than ever. Has he ever solved a mystery? "There was the mystery of the 5-pound notes that my brother and I caught as they were blowing across the potato fields. After some sleuthing at the local ice-cream bar, we discovered there had been a nearby bank robbery and the robbers had dropped some cash whilst escaping." Ursula Searle KATE WHITNEY Ursula Searle is a vocal chameleon specialising in opera, music theatre, character imitations, and physical theatre. Pre-2020, Ursula came back to Melbourne from Berlin where she performed in, directed, and stage managed two operas with the Berlin Opera Academy, as well as performed as Woman 1 in Jason Robert Brown's musical Songs for a New World. This year, Ursula has performed in several of Antipodes Theatre's Ricochet Readings, as well as performed twice on Adam Perryman's LIVE: From Your Living Room. Ursula has previously performed in Melbourne at MICF and the Melbourne Fringe Festival with Pining for Affection: A Tree Musical which received rave reviews. Currently, Ursula is at home with many, many plants, doing online acting for film courses and excitedly awaiting the return of the stage. Ursula and Fred can be heard in 'The Man with the Twisted Lip' in our last two episodes, and you can also listen to Fred as Mr Merryweather in 'The Red-Headed League - Part 2', which is Episode 4 of #theholmespodcast. 17.01.2022 A VERY SEEDY FELT HAT | The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes ‘Beside the couch was a wooden chair, and on the angle of the back hung a very seedy and disreputable hard-felt hat, much the worse for wear, and cracked in several places.’ This is one of the original illustrations done by Sidney Paget in 1892 for The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It depicts the start of ‘The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle’, in which Holmes and Watson examine a felt hat as an intellectual exercise to deduce information about its owner. To find out what other mysteries unfold around this battered old hat, listen to our latest episode of #theholmespodcast in your favourite podcast platform.
