24.01.2022 This morning we found an injured pigeon in our chicken enclosure. Educator Desiree and our Nominated Supervisor Garrett have placed our little friend in the safety of our space animal enclosure. The children were excited to come say hello. Educator Desiree used intentional teaching methods to educate the children in the importance of remaining calm to ensure we don’t frighten our little visitor.

22.01.2022 Today the children at Somerset Early Learning Centre were given the opportunity to participate in NAIDOC WEEK inspired learning experiences. The children engaged with educator Desiree as she read Dreamtime stories and discussed our friend Z.H’s cultural heritage. Later in the morning and at rest time the children expressed their creativity, imagination and their current knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as they created college flags and decorated their own official NAIDOC WEEK posters at our craft table.

20.01.2022 Welcome Kristy Today we welcomed Kristy to our team at Somerset Early Learning Centre. Kristy currently holds her Certificate 3 and is only a few units away from completing her Diploma. Kristy has 3 years experience is the Early Childhood Education & Care Sector, plus she is a mum to 4 little girls.... Kristy will be working at the centre on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays with a casual Monday here and there as well. If you happen to see Kristy at the Centre at drop off or pick up, please make sure you introduce yourself and say hello

13.01.2022 This morning the children and educators of Somerset Early Learning Centre recognised Remembrance Day 2020. Educator Shelby played the ‘The Last Post’, while the children observed a short period of quiet time. Shelby then engaged the children’s curiosity as she uses intentional teaching methods to extend the children’s knowledge of our countries heritage.

10.01.2022 On Monday morning, some of the children chose to assist educator Shelby to prepare and cook some deliciously healthy banana bread to share at afternoon tea. The children explored healthy eating, early mathematical concepts (counting and measuring ingredients) and early scientific concepts (how the cake mixture changed as different ingredients were added, etc) during this planned learning experience.

05.01.2022 Today the children from Somerset Early Learning Centre and their educators Shelby and Desiree made the best of our slightly wet weather. We utilised our large verandah area setting up various learning experiences including dinosaur, cars and animal mini worlds. In the sandpit we explored construction sites in our sandpit and followed on from world food week (last week) with various kitchen utensils, pots and more in the rock-pit. ... Educator Shelby Masters engaged the children with a Book Week 2020 book reading and a spontaneous cooking experience. Educator Desiree dressed up as Snow White, while educator Shelby came dressed as ‘The Cat in the Hat’. Some of our little friends dressed up as Princess Peppa Pig and Anna from Frozen. 02.01.2022 Yesterday the children at Somerset Early Learning Centre were presented with the opportunity to participate in some spooky Halloween themed craft with educator Lorie. The children used cotton wool tips to create The bones of their skeletons. The children demonstrate their dispositions for learning including imagination and creativity, while using their fine motor skills to place the cotton tips in their desired spots. Happy Halloween
