25.01.2022 Good morning :) As some people in the community may already be aware, Dr Michael Chalwe will be leaving the practice at the beginning of December. Dr Chalwe will have his last session on Sunday December 3 from 11am to 3pm.... Contrary to rumours circulating and half truths being told, it was by mutual decision. If anybody wishes to have any clarification in regards to this, my door is always open. We wish Dr Chalwe and his new place of employment all the very best for the future. 25.01.2022 Share the Dignity is happening this March! Ensuring access to sanitary items is a right not a privilege. Help us bring dignity to women, girls and transgender people who are homeless or living in a crisis within Australia.... Please get together and donate pads, tampons, maternity pads and incontinence underwear to drop in at your nearest collection point. We have a pink collection tub in the Practice if you would like to make a donation to this worthwhile cause.

21.01.2022 Good morning Due to the ongoing changing situation at the North West Regional/Private Hospitals, we have made the decision to only undertake Telephone consultations as of Tuesday, April 14 until further notice. Please phone us on 6435 1421 to arrange a telephone consultation.... We need to do what we can to protect both our staff and patients. Please note that if the Doctor requires to see you in person that we have strict protocols in place to protect everyone. 21.01.2022 Good morning :) We have some sad news from the Practice today. Dr Anochie has advised that he will not be returning home from Africa as had been planned.... As some may be aware, Dr Anochie recently lost his mother and went home to be with family. He has made the decision that this is where he needs to be for the foreseeable future. It was a pleasure having him as part of our team and we wish him all the best for the future. We will be on the look out for another doctor but unfortunately this can be a long and drawn out process so please be patient with us whilst this is happening. We hope all our patients have a good day and stay safe on the roads today. Bit of a downer after the beautiful last few days!

19.01.2022 Due to staff shortages, North West Pathology are only attending our clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:30am - 10:20am. Specimen drop offs are still accepted here until 5:00pm each week night. The closest pathology collection centres are located in Cooee behind the Terry White Pharmacy and at the North West Medical Centre up at the Burnie hospital.... You are welcome to still attend this clinic for collection on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after 8.45am, but please be aware there may be a longer wait time.

17.01.2022 Good morning all The power is out here in Somerset and unfortunately our phones are down . Please dont think we are ignoring you, the phones are just not working! ... 13.01.2022 Good morning :) We would like to advise of some changes to the hours at the practice for the foreseeable future. Due to GP staff shortage at present (we are currently awaiting the arrival of two GPs) it has become increasingly evident that we just cannot continue to provide the evening walk in clinic. We have persevered for as long as we have been able to but the doctors are becoming too stretched. I sincerely hope that everyone understands and hopefully once the new doct...ors are on board and up and running, we can reinstate the clinics. Have a wonderful day even though its a bit bleak outside.

13.01.2022 Good morning, Due to a planned power outage around the area of the Somerset Medical Centre on Sunday, April 14 we will be closed. 13.01.2022 A reminder that an appointment with your doctor is required for ALL prescriptions (including repeats). This can be a telephone appointment or in person. Please give at least 24 hours notice to book a time which is suitable for you and to help ensure you dont run out of your medication.

12.01.2022 Good afternoon :) The surgery will unfortunately not be operating on this Friday public holiday (Burnie Show Day). We will also not have a walk in clinic on Thursday evening. We will be here for the weekend and open both Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Dr Chalwe is on call.... On a completely unrelated topic: It is only 90 sleeps until Christmas :) Dont forget to turn your clocks foward on Sunday, October 2 at 2am. Due to recent departures and annual leave, there will be some variation to the running of the practice for December.... We will not have walk in clinics of an evening from Monday, December 11 until Monday, January 15, 2018. Dr Chiranthi Kariyawasam will be away on annual leave from Friday, December 8 until Wednesday, December 27. Dr Thanuja Perera will be away on annual leave from Friday, December 22 until Thursday, February 1, 2018. Dr Waheed Al Tamimi will be away on annual leave from Friday, December 29 until Monday, January 15, 2018. We will have a locum doctor, Dr Frank Winter, with us from Tuesday, January 2, 2018 until Tuesday, January 16, 2018 Please check your prescriptions and order early as they may take a little longer to prepare during this busy time. Dr Ratnayake has just finished twelve months in an Emergency Department in Melbourne and looks forward to commencing General Practice.... Your patience has been very much appreciated. ... I would like to thank my amazing staff and doctors for the brilliant job they are doing under extreme pressure. I could not do what I do each day without their ongoing support. They show up to work each day with a smile on their face and a determination to be the best they can be. 04.01.2022 Information about Influenza Vaccinations **As soon as stocks are available we will post it on this site.** Health officials have advised that the influenza vaccination is at its strongest within the first three to four months of actually having the injection. Because of peak flu season usually occurring from June to September it is recommended to have the vaccination as close to these months as possible.... Your influenza vaccination must be obtained through an appointment with your doctor. The following are eligible for the free influenza vaccine through the National Immunisation Program: All people aged 6 months to less than 5 years Pregnant women (during any stage of pregnancy) All people aged 65 years and over People aged 6 months and over with medical conditions which increase the risk of influenza disease complications. 03.01.2022 Good morning all :) I am sorry that I have been incredibly slack this year and not posted much on our page. It seems I came to work in January with great intentions and then all of a sudden I woke up and its October! I have absolutely no idea where this year has gone :) We wanted to let you know the upcoming Burnie Show Long Weekend Opening hours:... Friday, October 6 9am to 1pm Saturday, October 7 9am to 1pm Sunday, October 8 9am to 1pm Dr Chiranthi Kariyawasam is on call. As some patients may be aware, Dr Anochie is currently away on Bereavement Leave and is not expected to return until the beginning of November. We are keeping his family in our thoughts at this very sad time for him. Just in case anybody is wondering, it is exactly 84 days until Christmas. Im pretty sure it feels like I only packed up the Christmas Tree yesterday, ha ha. Have a great week and if you are going exploring for the long weekend, please be safe on the roads. I am attending a party to christen my grand daughters new play house.
