24.01.2022 Pictured: Lieutenant-Colonel Frank Flewell-Smith (Born: John Francis Smith) In 1966 at the age of 3 his parents migrated to a bark hut in Stinking Gully (now Fernvale). Frank enlisted in the army in 1879 and, after this, spent a short time droving for the McConnels of Cressbrook before returning to farming in Lowood. ... He went on to become a Justice of the Peace and was often called upon to try cases in the Lowood Court. He and a few others also rescued the Vernor Family from floodwaters in 1893. He remained serving in the military and in 1899 Frank was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel.
