24.01.2022 A big clean-up before the fire season can make a huge difference to the safety and survival of your home in a bushfire. Make sure you're ready for the upcoming bushfire season, by: Moving furniture, woodpiles and mulch away from windows, decks and eaves Pruning tree branches so they are not overhanging on the roof or touching walls Keeping grass shorter than 10cm. Regularly remove leaves and twigs... Not having plants higher than 10cm in front of windows or glass doors Making sure you remove all flammable items from around your home before you leave. Houses have been lost to embers landing on a doormat Checking that your home and contents insurance is current and includes a level of cover in line with current building standards and regulations. 12.01.2022 Today, we reflect on the events of this time twelve years ago when 173 people tragically lost their lives in the 2009 fires. As our communities have forever changed, the loss will never be forgotten nor will the bravery of our firefighters.

11.01.2022 A year ago today, fires were ravaging parts of East Gippsland and the North East of the state. The destruction these fires caused for our communities is still f...elt by many to this day. It’s been an incredibly challenging year for everyone. From fires, to COVID and everything in between, our volunteers and communities have shown their resilience and spirit. We wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy New Year. ------- CFA Wellbeing Support Line - 1800 959 232 Lifeline 13 11 14

11.01.2022 Grassfires can start and spread quickly, our local areas are surrounded by grasslands so it’s important we all think about it! Reducing the risk to yourself, your home and your property is key! Decide what buildings or assets you need to protect from grassfire.... Reduce the height and proximity of grass to these buildings and other assets by: - Slashing, Mowing and Grazing - Spraying and using herbicide - Creating fuel breaks by removing all fuel (vegetation) down to the soil - Narrow fuel breaks (less than three metres wide) are unlikely to stop a fire, however they may slow it down. By reducing the grass and other fine fuels around your buildings and other assets you can create a defendable space - a space which limits the ability of a moving grassfire to ignite a building through direct flame contact or radiant heat.
