21.01.2022 Attn: Members and residents, a message from David Gill: "Dear RAM members, As you would have probably learnt already, I have been re-elected as the Councillor for Red Hill Ward after many issues were raised during the campaign period.... It is a privileged position to represent our community on the Council. I take this responsibility very seriously and will always value and respect the trust that has been placed in me. Next month or when possible, I would like to have meetings with each individual Red Hill Ward Community Group to discuss your aspirations and desired outcomes for the next 4 years. Many of these matters will already have been discussed but this is an opportunity to review and prioritise local views on behalf of your communities. I also wish to discuss the effectiveness of my role and the way we work together from your point of view. I look forward to continuing a strong relationship with each of you and hopefully achieving timely outcomes. Regards, David Gill" Congratulations David...the SRA looks forward to your ongoing support.

08.01.2022 Somers Biolink Project - Koala Corridor A map of the Somers revegetation area: Properties within the yellow marked areas will receive free koala food trees, native plants, ecologist advice, equipment, volunteers on the day of planting and ongoing support. Image: Supplied SOMERS residents are being asked to plant trees to help koalas thrive on the Mornington Peninsula. They will join Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation group and Mornington Peninsula Shire in growing a cor...ridor of trees so koalas can move safely around Somers and beyond. The project will provide more food trees for koalas (manna gum, swamp gum and narrow-leaf peppermint), increase canopy cover for protection from the weather, increase habitats to support breeding populations, and improve ground cover to keep koalas safe from predators as they move between trees. Somers residents who own properties identified as part of the safe corridor have been asked to plant koala food trees and provenance plants. Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation president Dirk Jansen said over the past 30 years there had been a major decline in native animal species on the peninsula due to habitat loss, invasive flora and predation by foxes and cats. He said most native vegetation was found on private land, which made up 75 per cent of the peninsula. Incremental clearing of remnant native vegetation due to development and land use has caused isolation of faunal populations, he said. Landscape fragmentation, the lack of tree cover and habitat corridors are of most concern. The biolink project aims to provide koala habitat linking Coolart Wetlands to the west, Koala Reserve to the south and HMAS Cerberus to the east, adding to the wildlife corridor from Somers to Red Hill. Over term 3 whilst out walking within our 5km radius Agnes and I thought it might be nice to create an illustrated map of Somers including all of the wonderful totem poles that are on display in front yards and visible from the road/footpath. We are in the process of completing this at the moment and have been in c...ontact with many totem pole owners to get their OK to us including their pole on the map. However, before we finalise the art for the next step of our project we want to ensure we have them all ... Can you help? Do you have a totem pole on display and I haven’t contacted you yet or do you know someone with a totem pole you could mention the project to? - Give me a call on my mobile 0402202768 I would love to chat with you if you have any leads for our totem pole art trail project!
