25.01.2022 Hello Summer O! I think the UQ Science Ambassador program will be a great way to meet new people, whether they be students or experienced professionals. I still remember an experiment from Year 9, purely because of how cool I thought it was, and I think those experiences and activities are ideal for people to realise just how interesting science can be. #scienceweek #womeninscience #girlseducation

Here is a snapshot of the wonderful week weve had. #chapelweek #spirituallife #faith

19.01.2022 PMSA MAKES PLEDGE FOR NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION WEEK: The PMSA this week pledged alongside hundreds of other organisations in support of National Child Protecti...on Week (6 - 12 September). Our pledge says The PMSA and our schools pledge to create safe spaces for children to learn, where they are valued and their voices are heard. National Child Protection Week, now in its 30th year with the theme Putting children first, aims to engage all members of the community to Play a Part in improving child wellbeing and keeping children safe in Australia. Run by the National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN), the organisation raises awareness of child abuse and neglect, and promotes and implements effective prevention strategies and programs, including professional development and respectful relationships education. In support of the Week, the PMSA is encouraging all members of our PMSA and school community to play our part in keeping our children safe and well, particularly with the added stress on families due to the pandemic. This has always been important to our schools. Our newly-established PMSA Child Protection and Safeguarding Committee, which is now a board-level committee, demonstrates the PMSA Boards genuine commitment to this very important issue. This Committee has some outstanding new members with a wealth of expertise and knowledge in the area. We are looking forward to further developing our expertise and becoming a leader in child protection and safeguarding over the coming years. You can see the PMSAs pledge and all the supporting organisations pledges here. https://www.napcan.org.au/national-child-protection-week-p/ #playyourpart #ncpw #4gr8schools

17.01.2022 Ask any rower at Somerville House and they will tell you that Saturday 29 August is the most important day of the Term 3 calendar. After a short four-month season of early mornings, ergo training, wet socks, blistered hands and the classic bacon and egg wraps, our 2020 Rowing season has built to a crescendo for the Head of the River. Our girls in green finally have the opportunity to show off their hard work, commitment and dedication through this tough season. So get ready, because the Somey Rowers are ready to put up a fight at Wyaralong Dam tomorrow! #someypride #rowing
17.01.2022 On Thursday 20 and Friday 21 August, the 2020 Senior Art Show, Art as Knowledge, was held in the Honour Room, showcasing the work of our thirty-six Year 12 Visual Art students. It was wonderful to see so many students and staff taking the time to view the Art Show over its two-day opening. We sincerely thank Dr Charles Robb, contemporary Brisbane artist, for acting as our judge for the Dr Elaine Katte Award. His reflections on the work of our Senior students were insightful and provided valuable feedback about the impact that their work has on their audience. Congratulations to Eleanor G (12C) who received this award for her work Atman, which explored the idea of the sacred in our lives. An incredible exhibition, well done to our Visual Art teaching team and our Year 12 students. #visualarts #somervilleart #buddingartist

Time now to think ahead to packing and getting ready to celebrate at home with family over the holidays.

06.01.2022 With Science Week commencing in just a few days, here is Dinethra E, explaining her passion for Science. One of the reasons I love science is that it helps me to understand the world around us. My love of science began in primary school, when I started becoming unsatisfied when people gave me the answer, because thats the way life is. And this is where science comes in. Science explains to us why things occur, why they exist and why we behave the way we do. In this way, we could argue that science is the answer to life. Now this is why I love science. Through my role of UQ Science Ambassador, I hope I can ignite your passion for science too!
05.01.2022 "I am very pleased to be a UQ Science Ambassador. I am passionate about science and believe I have the right mix of qualities to champion Science at Somerville House. I am studying Biology, Chemistry and Physics and believe this program presents the ideal opportunity to connect with other ambassadors, learn more about the world of science and share my experiences with my peers and the wider community." Thank you, Caitlin L.

02.01.2022 Welcome to Science Week. Lets hear from Hesper W: "I decided to join the UQ Science Ambassador role because Im very passionate about science. I want to share what science has to offer with other girls in the School. Science has helped me understand the world and I believe this program will allow to me share that knowledge and curiosity with others. I just think that science can be a lot of fun. I also see this program as an opportunity for personal growth. I want to further develop my leadership and communication skills, and this program is a great way to do so."
