11.01.2022 This tiny dot on the the thigh of a 32-year-old female is one of the smallest melanomas in the world, found by the Fotofinder molemap system. When moles are this small, its extremely difficult to suspect as melanomas unless you can clearly tell that its new or changed to raise the suspicion, which becomes near impossible if you have a hundred moles or more. Hence, comes the benefit of regular mole mapping of high risk people, as it can detect new spots and subtle changes th...at no one can really notice. 03.01.2022 Next non melanoma skin cancer , is the squamous cell carcinoma ( SCC), also quite common like BCC and can be very ugly looking . It usually starts later in life after long term sun exposure, so the risk is higher with age and with occupations, sports or recreation that require being outdoors most of the time with no proper sun protection. Typically seen after the age 50, although Ive seen it the younger ages too, usually with a background of sun spots( solar keratosis) which... are considered pre-cancerous. SCC can be dangerous as they will potentially spread if not treated specially if located on the head & neck and i have seen some sad endings because of it. Treatment involves proper excision and testing for clear margins. 01.01.2022 Not all skin cancers are the same, some are not as bad as melanoma, like BCC( basal cell carcinoma) shown in the photos, which is the most common of all skin cancers( i see it almost on daily basis in my practice), although it rarely spreads it can cause serious disfigurement to the face specially that it occurs often on nose, ear, lids ,etc. It can be very sneaky, looking no more than a pimple that doesnt heal & thats why it gets diagnosed late and can require big excision...s to clear it. The patient demonstrated is in their early 20s, so yes it not just old people disease.
