14.01.2022 www.instagram.com/somniaexhibition www.somniaexhibition.com.au Only 5 more days until our exhibition opening night and we are so excited to share an exclusive look at and meet one of the photographs and artist that will be exhibited on the night... Tim Zhang | Tim knew he was turning professional as soon as his collection of photographic gear out-prized his old Subaru Liberty. Specialising in fine art photography, he realised his forte while studying at CATC Design College after enjoying ten years of amateur happy-snapping. Influenced by multiple photographers in the portraiture, fine art, cultural and religious genres, Tim is drawn to the art of photography and its association to self, people and the environment. He takes his inspiration from his own dreams and daydreams, international travel, cultural and religious experiences, and reflections on the great works of others. Born in China, Tim currently resides in Sydney. Armed with his much-loved camera, he enjoys exploring the world. Opening night 10 DEC | Gallery X88, 88 Abercrombie St Chippendale NSW

Holly Stanton | @holly_stanton | Adobe It’s hard to believe Holly has only been shooting on a DSLR for 18 months. Having always been interested in photography particularly street photography and photojournalism she spent many years experimenting and mastering the art of composition with a point and shoot before upgrading her equipment. As a very visual person and lover of the arts, the opportunity to study at CATC Design College gave her a creative outlet, which has literally taken over her world. Since starting the course, she has found herself looking at the world in a different light figuratively and literally. Drawing inspiration from people she meets and the places she travels, she has been particularly inspired by Ben Lowy: his stories from Iraq and Afghanistan and the way he ‘makes’ not ‘takes’ photos have influenced her craft. Working full time for Adobe in the Digital Marketing business - Holly is now making a name for herself as a part-time photographer. Recent shoots include the launch of new yoga brand Namaste Bitches, Leukaemia Foundation - Light the Night, a cocktail party for Carpet Court, portrait shoots for the launch and relaunch of KA Legal and 33careers, promotional shoot for upcoming music producer Laconik, and editorial work for Staminade and the Fred Hollows Foundation - the latter featuring in the Canberra Times. However, photojournalism is her true passion: capturing images that reveal so much depth about a moment in time, educating the viewer and shining a light on individual life stories. Vianna Nguyen | Vianna’s passion is photojournalism: brutally honest, impactful moments as revealed through striking imagery. She is driven by the pictorial documentation of significant moments in modern history and cultures on the verge of extinction. Although she appreciates the skill and imagery of artistic photography, she feels it’s largely self-serving and self-absorbed: the images are about the photographer rather than the event. Photojournalism is the polar opposite as the subject is everything. Inspired by everything around her colours, patterns, light, films, characters, lines Vianna has been developing her photojournalistic passion for the past six years and studied at CATC for the past 1.5 years. Needless to say, her dream job would be photographer for National Geographic. Opening night 10 DEC | Gallery X88, 88 Abercrombie St Chippendale NSW Sponsored by Adobe Australia and New Zealand

Davor Jakoljevic Originally from the former Yugoslavia, Davor’s family moved to Sydney in 1996 after the war in Balkans. Perhaps a natural consequence of his childhood experiences, he trained at CATC in order to develop his skills in travel photography, documentary photography and fine art photography. Davor uses the camera to express his ideas, and creativity. His work is infused with a mix of contemporary trends and classical influences. He has been influenced by a variety of international photographers from different genres: Anton Corbijn (music and art), Don McCullin (war and journalism), William Klein (street, fashion and glamour), Oleg Dou (fine art) and naturally, as a keen outdoor sportsman - Chris Burkard (landscapes and sport). Although Davor has only been developing his photographic talent since 2007, creativity was always in his genes: his most prized possession is his grandfather’s Yashica camera.
