25.01.2022 We're loving the #sawintro here this week! And today, we'd love to introduce you to Hayley from Somnia Sleep Psychology...who had us all when she mentioned be...tter sleep! Hi Everyone! I’m Hayley Dohnt, mum of 2, wife, daughter, sister, Aunty, friend, and Clinical Psychologist. I help families and individuals get better sleep. I love being able to help people improve their sleep, mood and anxiety, which can make such a huge difference to their overall well-being and functioning. I primarily work with children, adolescents and parents, helping them to be brave and manage their thoughts and emotions, to be able to participate in all of the things they wish they could, but aren’t quite getting there. I love working with anxious kids, sad and angry teenagers, and their parents, to help them navigate through tricky times. I have a special interest and experience in sleeping difficulties and I sneak in helping adults for these problems as well. The feedback I am hearing and experiencing myself from Psychologists is that referrals are through the roof at the moment. That’s a concern as maybe people aren’t doing well, but I like to try and think helpfully, and reframe it that maybe that means people are deciding to get the help they need! Please DM me if you have a question or comment. I’m always here to help the best I can. I’m located at Colonel Light Gardens. I also love reading, baking, socialising, sleeping, and family time. I am extremely close to my extended family and so lucky to have the support I have. What a wonderful group of inspiring women this is! So pleased to be a part of it. Thank you xx #sawintro Not a member yet? What are you waiting for?? Join a community designed just for South Australian women in business. 19.01.2022 It's R U OK?Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say af...ter R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK? Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

17.01.2022 Now that life is returning somewhat back to normal, it’s a great time to start prioritising your own well-being. Numerous studies show that many of us have trouble sleeping, yet we don’t seek help, and we live with the consequences. Improving your sleep can involve a relatively short treatment regime, and have so many positive consequences. ... We help parents of babies and children right through to older adults. Let us help you! #somniasleepadelaide #insomnia #sleep

16.01.2022 Daylight Savings starts next weekend and we lose an hour of sleep. It’s a good time to start thinking about how this might impact your sleep. For early risers, this changeover can be a good time to realign your (or your kids!) body clock. Try pushing out your bedtime for 15mins for 3-4 days in the lead up to DLS (and even after for a couple of days!). For late risers, try going to bed a little earlier for a few nights before the change, so losing an hour doesn’t feel so bad..., and try not to sleep in too much on day 1 (which can delay your body clock)! Enjoy the longer days! #somniasleep #pediatricsleep #babysleep #childsleep #adolescentseep #adultsleep #insomnia #sleepingproblems #sleeppsychologist #clinicalpsychologist #sleepspecialist #adelaide #southaustralia

08.01.2022 A nice reminder to take a minute and breathe.....

07.01.2022 Via Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CBZ6h-NHZil/?igshid=o5jxcg1ymttl Brains are wired to live by the rule, ‘better safe than dead’. Fair enough - it’s a h...andy one to live by, but sometimes they embrace the rule a teeny bit too much and stay on high alert. That’s when anxiety happens, and it escalates with a lack of sleep. . A tired brain will struggle to tell the difference between a threat and not-a-threat, so it will tend to hit the panic button more than it needs to. It will give as much weight to something neutral as it does to something more emotional or threatening. . It’s why our kiddos will be more likely to react with big emotion or fight or flight (avoidance, ignoring) when they are tired - because their amygdalae will be more active and interpreting non-threats as threats. It happens this way with all of us. . Brains love sleep. They adore it as much as cute animal videos and a deep breath in. But as much as anxiety can be made worse by a lack of sleep, it can also interfere with sleep. To stop anxiety getting in the way of a peaceful sleep, try mindfulness, breathing exercises, or relaxation meditations before bed. These all have a way of lowering activity in the amygdala, which will make sure negative thoughts don’t show up at bedtime to start the party and make falling asleep harder than it should be.
