11.05.2022 My singing groups - Sing About It - Big Song sessions and Big Voice Choir - all start again this week. Listening to this gorgeous song sung by a childrens choir from Kyiv in the Ukraine. And I’m reflecting on the profound power of music, and especially vocal music - to offer hope, solace and endurance ´So why is it important that the music of the Shchedryk Children’s Choir from Kyiv gets out into the world? "It's because, in my opinion, it's the only thing that can stop the... war," says Saul Zaks. He knows that sounds naive. But recently, a symphony orchestra in Kyiv performed in a city square, in the middle of the war. The musicians looked very small and cold. They stood there playing, completely exposed in the open - in a city that is often hit by Russian missiles. "That kind of music gives hope," says Saul Zaks. The two lullabies from the Shchedryk choir give hope. Because they tell something that words can't. "You can't kill the sound. You can't kill it. There are so many messages in those notes." They cost about $16, but they are way better than the cheapy ones, espec...ially for singing, laughing, and chanting. We’re going ahead on Monday, standing in a great big circle with plenty of space between us. Let’s unite through song!!
