It’s always a good day when I can work with and support our multicultural and diverse communities in my electorate. Ros Spence MP

19.01.2022 Threatening people and being aggressive is never ok. These fantastic local business owners are hard working and dint deserve the abuse they recently copped from an entitled customer. To protect the mental health of their staff, they closed their doors yesterday. So today my friend and colleague Vicki Ward MP for Eltham and I met and had breakfast at Bob's your Uncle Cafe in Doncaster East to show our support.... Come on people! Show a little kindness! Support local, shop local and be kind - always....

13.01.2022 As we safely start to reopen Victoria and reach a COVID Normal, it’s vital that we take every precaution to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19. All Victorians need to wear a fitted face mask. Face shields, bandanas or scarves, which were previously allowed but not recommended as face coverings, are now no longer permitted. A face mask with three layers is the recommended option, as it provides the best protection for the wearer and others, they come in to contact with.... Lawful excuses for not wearing a face mask will still apply and they include; infants and children under the age of 12, a person who is affected by a relevant medical condition, including problems with their breathing, a serious condition of the face and a disability or a mental health condition.

13.01.2022 We don’t want any student to miss out on the opportunities offered by quality vocational education and training. The fact is that a vocational pathway is valuable and leads to a great career. Employment forecasts predict that occupations requiring a VET qualification are likely to grow by around 40 per cent over the next 15 years.... These are good careers and well paying jobs. But right now not enough students are choosing this pathway either because it’s not offered or it’s not perceived as a high achieving option. We must change that. That’s what this reform is all about. It’s about elevating the vocational pathway with one integrated secondary school certificate. And to do that we will put jobs coordinators in every government school to support students through their studies and show them just how valuable this career path will be.

In Metropolitan Melbourne the new services will increase capacity on the Cranbourne, Pakenham, Frankston, Werribee, Williamstown, Upfield, Craigieburn and Sunbury lines during the busiest times each day to prepare the metropolitan network for the opening of the Metro Tunnel. 12.01.2022 As we come to the end of another busy week it’s worthwhile to reflect on all that’s come and gone. A highlight earlier this week was a lovely and very fitting tribute by former Prime Minister Julia Gillard at the ARIA Awards paying homage to Helen Reddy, an amazing and talented Australian artist, who made famous the feminist anthem, ‘I am Woman’. Sadly Helen passed away earlier this year. If you’re needing inspiration as we head into the weekend - watch this and enjoy.... Happy Friday!

12.01.2022 Today marks 50 years since the worst industrial accident in Australia's history: the collapse of the West gate bridge. 35 workers didn't go home that day. The tragedy led to union campaigns for work health and safety reform and the OHS act, which protects workers to this day.... An online memorial is being held at 11:30 by Victorian Trades Hall. You can join it at https://www.facebook.com/VicUnions

12.01.2022 A timely reminder on a very hot day like today. Please. Don’t leave your dog in a hot car.

11.01.2022 A fabulous way to kick start the day with a visit to Heide Museum of Modern Art in Bulleen today with Richard Wynne MP Minister for planning and Housing. It was great to see the newly refurbished Dolls House or Milking shed, originally built by John and Sunday Reed, but now restored courtesy of a Heritage Grant from the Victorian Government. Critically important to preserve our art history and we are so lucky to have such rich, cultural art history and heritage right here in ...our own backyard in the Eastern Metropolitan Region. The weather held out just long enough for a tour of the grounds as well.

11.01.2022 Catching up with Tilly the blue tongue - my daughter’s pet. Did you know that many blue tongue lizards are emerging from their garden hiding spots to bask in the sun and warm their bellies on the concrete? If you have blue tongues in your garden it’s a sign of a healthy garden. Blue tongues also keep snail numbers low as they love to eat them and other small pests.... Please be careful when driving on our roads and keep an eye out for them. Too many are ending up as road kill right now

08.01.2022 In this weeks State Budget we’ve announced the biggest cultural infrastructure project in Australia that will transform Melbourne's creative precinct. The centerpiece of this project is the National Gallery of Victoria whose grounds will be opened up to the public as part of the $1.4 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project Stage 1 - fully funded in the Victorian Budget. A landmark new Gallery NGV Contemporary will be built behind the existing NGV on Southb...ank Boulevard, amidst a new 18,000 square-metre public garden in the heart of Melbourne Arts Precinct that will also feature spaces for local performers and festivals. It’s been a tough year for our creatives and artists - but Melbourne is the cultural and creative centre of Australia - and we making sure it stays that way. And importantly - it’s also going to create 5,000 construction jobs. To find out more: https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/bringing-new-jobs-and-visito

08.01.2022 All Victorians are required to wear a fitted face mask that covers the mouth and nose when they leave home. A face mask with three layers is the recommended option, as it provides the best protection for the wearer and people they encounter. This means that bandanas, face shields and scarfs on their own will no longer be considered a sufficient face covering. There are sundry lawful excuses for not wearing a face mask. They include: Children under the age of twelve years; a...nd A person affected by a relevant medical condition, including problems with their breathing, a serious condition of the face and a disability or mental health condition. You are permitted to wear a buff, gaiter, or snood, which is a fitted face and neck covering, in the form of a closed loop, worn around the face and neck. In this instance fitted means the buff, gaiter or snood can extend in a fitted form to snugly fit over and cover your nose and mouth. It must be secure around your neck and lower face with no gaps along the nose ridge or the top of the garment. This is designed to protect you from coronavirus. It must be a sufficient face covering for this purpose.

08.01.2022 We’ve announced the single biggest boost in individualised learning support for students in our state’s history. This $250 million package will see 4,100 tutors employed across our schools to support students who struggled with remote learning. My message to retired teachers, casual relief teachers, teachers on long-term leave and pre-service teachers is: we want you and our kids need you. Please go to www.education.vic.gov.au to express your interest. My message to families... is: if your child has fallen behind we will bring them back up to speed. Many students have thrived during remote learning, but many have also struggled. And it is up to us to give them the support they need. The package will support more than 200,000 students across the state. This is a one in one hundred year pandemic and we are responding in an unprecedented way. Our teachers have done a remarkable job this year, and with the additional support of on-site tutors, these teaching teams will provide every student the support they need throughout 2021.
