04.05.2022 When you have a 15 + year old doggo in for boarding and your amazing animal attendant goes above and beyond to keep him warm and comfortable! Iris is taking super good care of this old man and he is absolutely loving it!

15.04.2022 Canberra's pets are down to one emergency department for medical emergencies, with staffing shortages temporarily closing the ED at the Animal Referral Hospital.

30.03.2022 For all of our clients that loved seeing Chester out in the paddocks of Sonza . Sadly, today we lost this amazing legend x Rest In Peace old mate Chester xx Back in the year of 2000, at the age of 12, Chester was gifted to us by Marcel Jud-Brettingham (Marcels School of Riding) for our then 2 year old son Hayden to learn to ride on. Hayden had many years of fun with Chester, who then taught our daughter Tayah how to ride. ... Chester was an amazing gift. A gift that enriched all of our lives. A gift that we have always been eternally grateful to have been given. Over the years Chester has been the best baby sitter at weaning time for every foal we’ve bred, tucking them under his kind but very strict hooves. He taught them companionship, boundaries and manners like a true gentleman. Chester made many human friends too, and over his 22 years at the farm he won over the hearts of our veterinary nurses and animal attendants. He even had a photo shoot with some strippers back in December 2019! Sadly this morning at 11.30am, at the grand old age of 34, Chester chose his resting place in the paddock. Thankfully I saw him, and we were able to see him ever so briefly before he took his final breaths. Rest In Peace buddy, you will be fondly remembered and sadly missed xxxx Jack, thank you immensely for your kindness and help this afternoon at such short notice. It’s truly appreciated x

12.03.2022 To our dearly valued clients, please read the following. If it’s a genuine out of hours emergency, please try to ring Dr John on his mobile, to alleviate the pressures our colleagues are going through. The current situation is in crisis and we will try our best to help.

25.02.2022 At the end of another big day, Dr John is on the phone updating his clients on their pets. We love you Dr John, you do an amazing job day in and day out! from your nursing team!

16.02.2022 Lest we forget x

24.01.2022 It is with the saddest regret that we announce the passing of one of our valued and long term clients Richard Herba. A passionate breeder and advocate of Siberian Huskies. Our thoughts are with his beloved wife Mara, and from the bottom of our hearts here from the team of Sonza, you are in our thoughts. Rest In Peace mate. Loads of love from Dr John, Gill, Hayden, Lisa, Tilly and the team x

24.01.2022 We got a call from this naughty puppy's owner yesterday. She had been scratching at the wall and had managed to get a chip of paint in her eye We were able to remove the chip of paint with some sedation on board, we then checked her eye with a fluorescein stain. ... A Fluorescein stain is a yellow dye which is applied to the eye to look for a corneal abrasion or ulcer. Lucky for this little pup she had neither! She was sent home yesterday feeling much better. She will be back in tomorrow with her 9 brothers and sisters for their first vaccination and microchip!

24.01.2022 These two pups were brought in earlier this week for a health check with Dr John. Their mum was brought in a few days prior for xrays so we could check how many pups she would be expecting, and there were 11! Can anyone guess what breed they are? (They are only 1 day old in this photo)

21.01.2022 Malibu saying a big thank you to Dr John for saving her life last week Malibu came in last week feeling very off and not herself. After some further testing it was confirmed that Malibu had a pyometra. A pyometra is an infection in the uterus and can be fatal without immediate veterinary intervention... This is one of the many reasons we advocate for desexing your pets if you do not plan on breeding. We are so happy to see Malibu feeling so much better and doing well in her recovery

14.01.2022 This is so so true. Every time we have to put one of your pets to sleep, its like we are saying goodbye to one of our own because that is how we treat your pets every day - like they are one of our own. It is never easy and it never gets easy. It breaks our hearts too x

13.01.2022 Grass seed season is here and in full swing, just ask Daisy! Daisy came in to the clinic today with a severely irritated ear caused by a suspected grass seed. Daisy was given a sedation so we could properly examine her painful ears and not risk causing any further damage or stress. Lucky for Daisy, we were able to remove the grass seed before it caused any further issues such as rupturing her ear drum. ... If you suspect your pet has a grass seed please call the clinic ASAP as grass seeds can cause severe issues in pets if left untreated. If left untreated grass seeds can enter the body and travel long distances and have the potential to end up in the bladder, lungs, spinal cord and even the brain. Daisy is now feeling much better since having the grass seed removed and is now back at home with her family.
