25.01.2022 Vale Susan Ryan. Susan was a former Labor Senator, first woman to hold a cabinet post in a Labor Government, a prominent feminist, a human rights campaigner, a trailblazer, a truly lovely person. 5 years ago, when I held the Shadow aged portfolio and advocating for the first ever elder abuse inquiry. I went to see Susan as she was the Federal Age Commissioner and sought her professional advice and counsel about what we needed to do, she was very generous with her time and... provided very sound and appropriate advice, she was very interested in our inquiry getting up and once it did gave extraordinary evidence, a strong and passionate voice on behalf of older Australians and their treatment. Her advocacy for a public advocate and for a coordinated national plan to tackle elder abuse played an important role in the recommendations issued by the Parliamentary Committee into Elder Abuse. Susan Ryan's legacy will continue through the Independence of the NSW Age and Disability Commissioner as well as her extraordinary role in establishing the Sex Discrimination Act, Equal Employment Opportunity and the Affirmative Action Act. Vale Susan Ryan.
24.01.2022 I wish everyone celebrating a very happy and auspicious Mid-Autumn Festival. We might not be celebrating the occasion as we have in the past, however I would like to thank everyone in our community that is adhering to the COVID safety measures to ensure we remain healthy and safe.
22.01.2022 Fantastic to join the celebrations for the grand reopening of family run Jailhouse Rock - Pizza and Pasta Restaurant in Earlwood. The shop had to close down after a devastating fire destroyed almost everything. Great to see the local community supporting Jailhouse Rock. ... Congratulations to Nadim and William, we wish you all the success. PS: Wonderful to have the king of rock'n'roll join us for the reopening.
22.01.2022 Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment Campaign Jihad Dib MP, Jo Haylen and I launched our community petition, calling on the Government to upgrade Canterbury Hospital. Canterbury Hospital has not been redeveloped since 1998.... Since then population has grown, as has the demand for the hospital's facilities and pressure on its resources - particularly during the COVID19 pandemic. We urge you to sign the petition and help get our hospital its fair share! Big thank you to HSU NSW, and the NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association for their support and great to have had Adam Hall, Mark Murphy and local delegates Marty, Anthony, and Kelvin join us at the launch. If you would like a copy, please contact my office on 9718 1234 or email [email protected]
21.01.2022 SHARE WITH YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS Join our campaign to redevelop Canterbury Hospital - SIGN THE PETITION NOW! I was born in Canterbury Hospital, I’m passionate about our community and their healthcare needs, I respect our amazing staff and am grateful for their professional service. They go above and beyond the call of duty. ... After 22 years, the hospital needs to be redeveloped to meet the growing healthcare needs of our growing population which by 2031 will grow by 39%. Currently there is no renal dialysis, angiogram, or MRI scanning technology, and only limited ultra sound capacity. Waiting times have become worse. The state budget will be handed down on November 17. We are urging the Treasurer, Health Minister to include funding for Canterbury Hospital’s redevelopment. I urge you to sign the petition and help get our hospital its fair share! 20.01.2022 NSW Labor is calling on the Government to immediately introduce a simple reimbursement system through Service NSW for anyone charged a fee in relation to COVID testing.
20.01.2022 Mandatory Service NSW check-in app suffers outage - See my comments in the smh, this crash is frustrating and concerning as important information will be lost for contact tracers. In addition, people across NSW have also been left without a digital driver’s licence, with some going to on social media to state they were unable to show their digital licence to police. This is unacceptable.
19.01.2022 Interview with Charlotte Mortlock Sky News about the Auditor General's report into the Govt using Service NSW to poll and measure the sentiment towards the coalition prior to the 2019 State Election. I have written to the NSW Electoral Commission and the NSW Attorney General on this matter. The Liberals need to pay back the money. No Government agency should be used in this way.
19.01.2022 ***Not a single cent for Canterbury Hospital*** Canterbury Hospital has once again been left on life support as the NSW budget completely ignored the needs of our hospital and surrounding communities. Even the Government’s promised brand new Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital missed out on funding.... But our community will not stop our campaign to redevelop Canterbury Hospital. I urge you to sign the petition, and send it back to my office. https://drive.google.com//16gQWVcQ4Gj5Yk6di2vDHZ0p2m/view We will continue to work together to get our fair share! 15.01.2022 Anglicare Sydney is the latest victim of cyber-criminals who have stolen highly sensitive data and holding one of our biggest not-for-profit organisations to ransom. Once again our NSW citizens have had their personal and private information comprised. I'm calling on the Berejiklian Government to explain how this has happened, and if people who have had their information stolen, will be notified.
14.01.2022 Congratulations to Peter Stevens for being awarded the inaugural Jack Mundey Environment and Heritage Award. Peter has been a dedicated environmentalist and has been a part of the Wolli Creek Preservation Society for 17 years. He has been instrumental in a number of successful campaigns. ... Peter is a fine and firm advocate for the environment, someone who I greatly admire. With colleagues and volunteers we work closely with Peter in the campaign to see that the Wolli Creek Regional Park is finally complete. Peter is a deserving recipient of this award. Protect Wolli Creek Valley
13.01.2022 Over 1.2million people in NSW alone will be worse off with changes to JobKeeper. At a time where we are in an economic recession and COVID19 is still impacting many jobs, the Federal Government (which overestimated approx. $30billion in its initial numbering) is taking food out of peoples mouths who don’t have additional means of an income. Absolutely outrageous!
13.01.2022 Last week NSW Labor's Shadow Minister for Music, John Graham introduced the Right To Play Music Bill in the Upper House. Look forward to the debate in the Lower House. You know this bill is needed when: Jimmy Barnes is still banned from taking stage at Dubbo Tavern;... Rock music is banned at Terrigal Hotel; and Disco is banned at Nowra Wharf Rd Restaurant and Bar.
13.01.2022 Jihad Dib MP and I have continued to call on the Berejiklian Government to fulfil its election commitment to open a Service NSW centre in Roselands. According to a media report, We are pleased to advise that a lease has been signed which will see a Service NSW centre opening on Level 2, Roselands Shopping Centre. I will continue to inform you of progress as it happens.... You can read a response from Minister Dominello in the comments below.

I appreciate the many community members who helped me pursue this important matter. I would like to acknowledge my colleague, Acting Shadow Spokesperson for Health Paul Scully MP for his help and appreciate NSW Health who listened and I know how hard our nursing staff are working and am very appreciative. ... I have also written to the Health Minister to have the operating hours extended. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/clinics.aspx Jihad Dib MP Sydney Local Health District

11.01.2022 Today is International Translation Day and this year’s theme is ‘Finding the words for a world in crisis’. During COVID-19, it has been imperative to provide multicultural communities with information in their own language to ensure the health and safety of our multicultural community. I would like to thank everyone from professional interpreters, including AUSLAN interpreters, to the sons, daughters, grandchildren and neighbours who interpret each and every day for their com...munity, friends, family and loved ones. Today is also a day to appreciate and acknowledge those who promote understanding and preserve identity, tradition and culture through language.
10.01.2022 Service NSW App crash disruption to businesses across NSW. Important information has been lost for contact tracers. If you are a business or know of a business impacted by the Service NSW App crash, please email me at [email protected] The Service NSW App crash has resulted in frustration and concern for thousands of businesses and people who are doing the right thing. ... The Government must have a contingency plan and ensure this does not happen again.

10.01.2022 This Government's worker’s compensation scheme is in shambles. It’s left thousands of injured workers on the scrap heap, and struggling employers paying high premiums. Many injured workers are the sole breadwinners. In my community, injured workers often cannot speak proficient English. ... But rather than putting the workers and businesses first, The NSW Government has given icare special privileges that exempt it from Government procurement rules. This allowed icare to offer contracts to Liberal supporting firms without proper process. I spoke in Parliament, calling the government to change this exemption. They voted it down. My colleague Daniel Mookhey MLC is doing an excellent job holding the Govt to account on the disfunction icare and exposing bad and shoddy practices. You can read my speech here: https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//Pag/HansardResult.aspx
09.01.2022 NSW Labor is calling on Health Minister Brad Hazzard and NSW Health to work with the fitness industry and consider easing restrictions on gyms.
09.01.2022 NSW Labor Shadow Minister for Music and The Night Time Economy, John Graham, introduced the Right to Play Music Bill. Labor Leader Jodi McKay MP, John Graham and I met with local artists from various walks of life and backgrounds who have all shown support for the bill. The Right to Play Music Bill aims to create more job opportunities for musicians while supporting the night time economy and celebrating the incredible local talent we have.... Our local entertainers and artists have been greatly impacted by the COVID19 restrictions as many rely on gigs and live music bookings for their livelihoods. Currently music is banned in over 600 venues across NSW. This bill will remove noise regulation on these venues, allowing musicians to play and have greater opportunities for income. Supporting musicians and venues is more important than ever right now. Join our Save our Stages NSW campaign by signing the petition below: https://www.sosnsw.org/ #saveourstagesnsw
08.01.2022 A fitting tribute to our Police men and women this Police Remembrance Day. Thank you for all that you do for our community. #wewillalwaysremember
07.01.2022 SIGN THE PETITION - Proclaim the NSW Modern Slavery Act 2018 Now The Modern Slavery Act 2018 was passed through both Houses of NSW Parliament over two years ago. However the Berejiklian Government has still not proclaimed it into law.... This has left the most vulnerable workers in our communities unprotected by NSW law. Show your support for the Modern Slavery Act 2018 and sign the petition to get it into the statute books. https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//Pages/ePetition-details
06.01.2022 I can’t believe it. One of the greatest players ever and in the eyes of millions of people - the greatest - has died of a heart attack. RIP Diego Armando Marado...na. You gave joy to millions. I hope you are at peace after such a turbulent life - particularly post your football career. I’ll never forget watching you play during my formative years at SBS Television which led me to commentating those two iconic 1994 World Cup qualifying games. See more
05.01.2022 During the peak of COVID19 the Berejiklian Government was thanking our public sectors workers. Later, we discovered the Premier's shocking plans to freeze all public sector wages, which NSW Labor and unions fiercely opposed. Unfortunately, the IRC made a decision that public sector workers will only receive an increase of 0.3% ... Make no mistake this is no increase in real terms as the percentage is miniscule relative to the rate of inflation - this is a WAGE CUT! This is a blatant slap in the face of all the nurses, cleaners, teachers, doctors, allied health professionals, national park rangers, service nsw, FACS workers, amongst many others. Join the campaign and sign the petition. Hey
05.01.2022 Congratulations to local 10 year old Jonathan Loukas from McCallums Hill Public School who is one of seven national winners of the Westpac Youth Impact Challenge. The challenge, in partnership with Fiftysix Creations, aims at tapping into the innovative skills of our youth and propel their ideas. Out of 84,000 entries and 4,500 project ideas, Jonathan is the only NSW Public School winner. ... Jonathan's amazing innovative idea was a Skills Exchange Program - where kids with computer skills are paired up with older Australians to help them learn how to use technology. In return, older generations can help teach kids new languages and about their cultural heritage. Jonathan is certainly doing his part in the good fight to preserve cultural languages! We’re so proud! Go Jonathan! Dear Minister Dominello, I hope you are able to meet with our incredible Jonathan and look at ways to help our elderly from CALD communities get online.

02.01.2022 NSW Auditor General finds Service NSW is putting the privacy of customers at risk. The NSW Government is putting the private information of millions of people at risk by failing to heed warnings that government agencies continue to be exposed to data breaches. The Service NSW breach would not have happened if Minister Dominello had listened to the Auditor General’s ... repeated warnings that urgent action needed to be taken on cyber security We will see many more incidents like the NSW Service breach until the Minister Dominello takes action.
02.01.2022 A black day in Government Administrative Processes when the Premier, admits to pork barrelling, meaning neglect of proper, open, transparent government processes. The Premier today has signalled to the people of NSW, this is how they do business. Under enormous pressure from Labor leader Jodi McKay MP about the grants scandal, the Premier has covered up and tried to obfuscate. ... It's telling she is under pressure to explain. As an MP with a forced merger that I was against: - I have never been notified about this grants program, many MP's were not. - Shredding official documents is illegal. - Pretending not to know what is happening by subordinate MP's claiming commissions like Daryl Maguire is extraordinary. - Lying about COVID-19 isolation is enough. People have had enough. Pork Barrelling is a term that this Government is very familiar with. For 10 years this Lib/Nat Government has adhered to the tap of lobbyists and the white shoe brigade rather than listen and pay close attention to report after report from highly respected departmental officials, bureaucrats and highly respected business people who've conducted forensic work to determine priorities and where constrained resources should be invested. An open, transparent and accountable system of Government, is one that ensures taxpayers are confident their taxpayer dollars are being invested in listed priority areas and projects that help with our social and economic well-being and advance our state. Gifting $90million to Hornsby Council a non merger council against my area the largest merger in Australia, where I can't get the largest soccer oval in Earlwood upgraded (where women have no access to urinate or get changed). I'm so angry, let's not forget the Light Rail - Nick Greiner was chair of Infrastructure NSW in 2011 and advised against a light rail instead a bus terminal under George St. Berejiklian as Transport Minister didn't listen. The conversion of the Sydenham to Bankstown heavy rail line to a metro to satisfy the developer masters of the Premier and Maguire. What a waste of money. The Upper House Inquiry said this should not go ahead. The forced mergers, which will see rate rises of 30 per cent under the premise of saving money, was only about quelling the voices of community to let it rip. See my area of Canterbury Rd. The Dept of Planning has rubber stamped some of the worst decisions in the last 10 years. My local hospital at Canterbury has been in the health priority list for more than 7 years. It has seen 100,000 visit emergency and this Govt through their blunt planning instruments will see our population rise by 39 per cent by 2031. This Govt has to get voted out in 2023.
02.01.2022 Today is World Pharmacists Day. This day we try to highlight the vital role pharmacists play in ensuring public health. This year’s theme for World Pharmacists Day is Transforming Global Health - a theme that is very relevant given these difficult times.... Since the COVID19 pandemic, many pharmacists have gone above and beyond trying to deliver medication to our most vulnerable community members. They are our unsung heroes, thank you for everything you do! Huge thanks to my local Pharmasict’s for doing an extraordinary job. You are heroes, especially going beyond your role and helping with so many issues including, filling out forms, interpreting, late deliveries, providing support, helping famijy members, forums- just to name a few. 02.01.2022 What a Joke!!! Hardworking public sector workers let down by this Govt.
02.01.2022 The Treasurer has made an announcement about proposed changes to stamp duty and land tax. I recall a former Government trying to do the same thing. The community was not happy about it and it was reversed. ... A new tax during COVID-19 recovery. https://www.realestate.com.au//nsw-stamp-duty-vs-property/
