06.01.2022 ***EDIT*** We had no idea this post would reach so many people. Had we known, we would have provided a much more thorough explanation. A few updates: - At-home ...grooming is dangerous for ALL dog breeds, not just doodles. We are a doodle rescue and we were speaking to our followers. - Do not use scissors, clippers, or anything sharp on your dogs. This incident was due to scissors, and it's something we see far too often, hence our original caption. - We work daily with families who seek to surrender and have worked very closely with Ellie’s family to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Hurtful comments will not undo what happened and only deter families from seeking rescue help in the future. We are NOT excusing the actions of the family, but the focus of this post is to educate. PLEASE leave grooming to the PROFESSIONALS! We are a small volunteer-run, donation-funded doodle rescue on a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome poodle mixes in need. We appreciate all of the support and hope Ellie Mae's story will help bring awareness and prevent this horrific situation from ever happening again! Meet Ellie Mae our newest foster pup who suffered extensive injures after an at-home groom went TERRIBLY wrong. Before we go further, we wanted to share that her family was considering rehoming PRIOR to this accident (we know many will inquire about keeping Ellie with her family). Additionally, we ask you to please refrain from negative comments. Ellie Mae's family acknowledges their mistake and they feel horribly about her injuries. What's important is Ellie's health and educating the community so this doesn't happen again. Ellie Mae is a 2.5-year-old Goldendoodle who suffered severe injuries when her family attempted to cut her painful mats with scissors. Ellie Mae's Achilles tendon was fully lacerated in two places and her family rushed her to the ER where they attempted to repair both lacerations. Ellie Mae's family contacted us and we took her in without hesitation and rushed her to our Veterinarian for evaluation. It was confirmed that the previous repair surgery was unsuccessful and that she had developed a severe infection which required hydrotherapy and oral antibiotics. Due to the severity and location of both lacerations, the failed attempt to repair, and the severe infection, our vet decided that amputating her leg was the best decision. She was hospitalized for a few days, had a successful amputation surgery, and is now safe and sound in her loving foster home. Ellie Mae's amputation is another tough expense after all of the extensive medical cases we've had the past few months. We continue to say yes because their lives are worth it. PSA NEVER USE SCISSORS on your doodles, especially if your pup's fur is matted to the skin. Matting is not only extremely painful and can result in skin sores, infections, etc., but it's also very difficult to cut properly and must be handled by a professional. If you are interested in the doodle breed, PLEASE do your research and ensure you are fully prepared for frequent brushing and frequent (and costly) professional grooming. If you have any questions, feel free to PM us. This could have been prevented, and we want to make sure no other pup has to go through this. : DoodleRockRescue.org : PayPal.me/DoodleRockRescue : @DoodleRockRescue
