24.01.2022 COUNCIL WORKS UPDATE Current and soon to be commenced Council works and projects as at 1 December 2020: Gypsy Bay Boat Ramp dredging Due to a UTAS captive breeding program for threatened species and the requirement for a new permit, dredging is now likely to be carried out during February. ... Levelling the Playing Field Unisex Change Rooms Internal fit out is almost complete. Car parking and landscaping is currently underway. Pembroke Park Stadium Works have commenced on site and will remain ongoing during 2021. Dodges Ferry Skate Park Work on upgrading the shelters and seating is ongoing. Stormwater Minor upgrades, storm damage repair and general maintenance on stormwater infrastructure is occurring around the Municipality. San Francisco Street, Midway Point Work on the renewal of the existing footpath and kerb is ongoing. Roadside Mowing The roadside mowing program has commenced and is ongoing. Fifth Avenue, Dodges Ferry Work on new kerb and stormwater infrastructure has commenced. Nash Street, Sorell Work on the renewal of the footpath has commenced. Road Resealing Program - Resealing of the following roads will commence on Monday 30 November and remain ongoing for approximately 1-2 weeks: - Weston Hill Road - Nash Street - Dodges Court - Mercer Court - Barclay Court Road Resurfacing Program Road resurfacing of the following roads will commence in the coming weeks: - Nugent Road (between 1581 and 1682, two segments of road). - Shrub End Road (two sections - from Nugent Road to the bridge and from Pawleena Road to 192 Shrub End Road). - Bridges Road.

22.01.2022 DAMAGE TO PUBLIC PARKS We’ve had many incidences of vandalism and graffiti at our playgrounds recently, which is very disappointing. Repairing this diverts community money away from other projects. If you see anyone damaging public property please report it to the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 and to Council on 6269 0000.

22.01.2022 ASBESTOS AWARENESS WEEK Asbestos is still present in millions of Australian homes and can be easily disturbed when doing renovations, home improvements and maintenance. If a home was built or renovated prior to 1990, there is a good chance it has some asbestos. It’s vital that we take the warnings seriously and stop playing ‘renovation roulette’ and protect ourselves and our families from exposure to asbestos fibres during renovations and maintenance. The rainfall we’ve experienced over the past few months means there is a lot of growth around. 18.01.2022 PEMBROKE PARK STADIUM Yesterday Mayor Kerry Vincent joined with Senator Claire Chandler, Jane Howlett - Liberal Member for Prosser, John Tucker - Lib MP for Lyons. Marsha Batchelor from South East Netball Association, Niall Quinn from SEBA (South East Basketball Association) to mark the commencement of construction of the stadium complex at Pembroke Park. The stadium complex includes two netball/basketball courts, gym, three offices, meeting room, four internally accessed ch...ange rooms, four externally accessed change rooms, umpires change rooms, storage, kitchen/canteen, bar, function room, parking, access and landscaping. The tender for the project was awarded to Vos Construction & Joinery P/L and works are expected be completed by the end of 2021. This project has been made possible thanks to funding from the Australian Government, Tasmanian Government and Sorell Council and will provide new and improved access to sport and recreation opportunities for the greater south east region.

Week 1: 16 - 20 November Boomer Bay, Carlton, Carlton River, Bream Creek, Connellys Marsh, Copping, Dodges Ferry, Dunalley, Kellevie, Marion Bay, Primrose Sands. Week 2: 23 - 27 November Midway Point, Forcett, Lewisham, Nugent, Orielton, Pawleena, Penna, Sorell, Wattle Hill. To book your collection in, the options are as follows: - Go to our website https://www.sorell.tas.gov.au///waste-collection-bookings/ - Use the ‘My Local Services App’ - Phone 6269 0000 and select option 3 Please place all waste on the nature strip no earlier than the weekend prior to your scheduled collection week and ensure you abide by the size requirements: - Less than 1.5 metres in length. - 2 cubic metres maximum (e.g. a small trailer load). - Easily lifted by two people. Please also ensure your hard waste doesn't block any gutters, drains or culverts. This can create a dam and lead to flooding when it rains. Thank you for your cooperation.

11.01.2022 WESTON HILL ROAD CLOSURE Weston Hill Road, Mercer Court and Barclay Court are being resealed. Weston Hill Road will be closed between Cole Street and Gatehouse Drive from Monday 30 November to Thursday 3 December 2020 between working hours of 7.00am and 6.00pm. Detour will be via Devenish Drive during the works. The Gateway Shopping Centre remains accessible via Station Lane. Immediate residents and emergency services vehicles will be permitted through. Levelling the Playing Field Unisex Change Rooms Mechanical ventilation, electrical installation, civil works, internal fit out and plumbing are all nearing completion. ... Pembroke Park Stadium The tender has been awarded and work is expected to commence shortly. Stage one of the new access road and car park from Montagu Street has commenced construction. Sorell Skate Park The old concrete shelter has been removed and is currently being replaced with a new concrete slab, shelter, seating and solar lighting. *Pictured below Dodges Ferry Skate Park The old timber shelter will be removed and replaced by two concrete slabs, shelters and seating in the coming months. Stormwater Minor upgrades, storm damage repair and general maintenance on stormwater infrastructure is occurring around the Municipality. Fulham Road Stabilisation, sealing and associated drainage works on the final unsealed section of Fulham Road are complete. Road Resheeting The tender for the 2020/2021 program has been awarded to Hazell Brothers and works will be carried out in the coming weeks. Road Resealing The tender for the 2020/2021 program has been awarded to Fulton Hogan and works will be carried out before Christmas. Lighting at Jetties Solar lighting will be installed at the five jetties across our Municipality in the coming months. Woods Road The bridge on Woods Road has been replaced. Minor tidy up works are still to be completed. Burdons Road The bridge replacement on Burdons Road has commenced and should be completed early this month. Sorell Memorial Hall The exterior is currently being repainted. See more

06.01.2022 In case you missed it Merry Christmas everyone

06.01.2022 UPDATE - The test results for the two samples collected at the beach yesterday have indicated that the water quality has returned to normal levels and is suitable for swimming again. The sign onsite will be removed this afternoon. There has been an overflow at the Taswater Sewerage Pump Station below McKinley St, Midway Point. Sewerage has run over the cliff into the water near the swimming beach. Council recommends residents don’t swim at the beach until water samples indicate that the site is suitable for swimming. Signage is on site at the beach, this signage will be removed when it it is suitable for swimming and this post will be updated.
