25.01.2022 Locals and visitors have told us their frustrations with the mobile network along the iconic Great Eastern Drive, and we're committed to doing something about i...t. Today we're announcing a partnership with Optus to co-fund $11 million worth of investment to ensure that more than 96% of the drive has high quality mobile coverage, providing better opportunities for communities, upgraded access for tourists and improved safety in general. And if you're not an Optus customer, we've made provision for other carriers to piggy-back their equipment at the same sites to enhance their own networks. This is in addition to our recently announced $2.5 million infrastructure upgrades to the Great Eastern Drive, including improvements to the Coles Bay Junction and dedicated right turn lanes at Basin Creek and Flagstaff Road.

18.01.2022 EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS: TASWATER ISSUES ALERT TEMPORARY BOIL WATER ALERT FOR LAUDERDALE, ROACHES BEACH, ACTION PARK AND SEVEN MILE BEACH TasWater advises cons...umers in the Lauderdale, Roches Beach, Acton Park and Seven Mile Beach area that they should boil their drinking water until further notice. This advice has been issued following routine water sampling which indicates irregularities in the quality of the water supply involving the presence of E. coli. Customers should bring water to a boil by heating the water until a continuous and rapid stream of air-bubbles is produced from the bottom of a pan or kettle. Kettles with automatic cut-off switches are suitable and variable temperature kettles should be set to boil. After heating, water must be allowed to cool before using it and be stored in a clean, closed container for later use. Care should be taken to avoid scalding injuries. Customers should boil all water used for: drinking brushing teeth washing and preparing food or beverages preparing baby formula making ice. Food and beverages including ice and prepared baby formula that has been prepared using water prior to today (5 November 2019) should be disposed of as this may not be safe to consume. Unboiled water may be used for: showering and bathing (avoid swallowing water). As a precaution babies and toddlers should be sponge bathed to prevent them swallowing water washing dishes by hand or in a dishwasher, providing dishes are air-dried before being used after washing washing clothes. The Department of Health and Human Services advises that consumption of unboiled water could lead to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and a general feeling of being unwell. If you are concerned that you may have been affected by contaminated water please contact your GP and advise them about this notice. The State Chief Veterinary Officer has advised TasWater that there is not an increased risk to animals drinking reticulated water in towns under a Boil Water Alert. Animals typically have access to, and consume, non-potable water from a range of other sources (puddles, watercourses, dams, toilets.) TasWater is working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services to identify conditions that will enable the boil water alert to be lifted. The alert will be in effect until TasWater and the Department of Health and Human Services are confident that there is no longer a public health concern. Please share this advice with neighbours and friends in the affected area. Landlords must provide this information to their tenants or real estate agents. If you have any health concerns please contact the Department of Health and Human Services on 1800 671 738

14.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared a Fire Permit Period for the Break ODay, Glamorgan-Spring Bay and Sorell municipalities commencing from Saturday 28th Septem...ber. People in the listed municipalities wishing to light a fire in the open will require a permit. Tasmania Fire Service permit officers issue free permits with clear conditions that will ensure any burn is conducted as safely as possible. The landowner is responsible for their burn. Anyone wishing to conduct their own hazard reduction burns are encouraged to use the spring months to do so, provided the winds are light and the temperatures are low and they are adequately prepared. What to do: - Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn with TFS on 1800 000 699. - Apply for a fire permit if required. - Check and monitor weather conditions - particularly wind. - To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand. - Leave a three-metre fire break, free from flammable materials down to bare earth around the burn. - Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading. - Never leave a burn unattended - stay for its duration. - If the burn gets out of control, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service will also be implementing campfire restrictions in designated areas on the East Coast and areas of the North East from Saturday 28 September. These restrictions will remain in place until the end of the fire season, or until the fire risk in those areas is reduced.

14.01.2022 Today, I was pleased to launch the Tasmanian Government’s fuel price reporting scheme with a fully operational free app and website. As part of the scheme, fuel... retailers are now required to update fuel prices in real time. Motorists can easily search for fuel by location, price and fuel type or brand through the app and website. We are confident the Scheme will put downward pressure on fuel prices, create more competition among fuel retailers and improve price transparency for Tasmanian motorists. To start finding lower fuel prices near you, search for ‘FuelCheck TAS’ in the iOS and Android App Stores or visit www.fuelcheck.tas.gov.au See more

07.01.2022 More assessment options for young people to get their Ps Having a drivers licence helps young Tasmanians secure work and access education, so they can fully pa...rticipate in the States growing economy. The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to streamlining the process and provide the opportunity for more young Tasmanians to get the skills needed to get their P1 licence. From September 30, the Government is opening up driver assessments to private operators, cutting the current wait time for P1 licence assessments. The 12 month pilot allows newly accredited assessors to conduct testing outside normal business hours and on the weekend. This enables assessments to be undertaken more flexibly and frequently, recognising the lives of many Tasmanians no longer revolve around the weekday hours between 9am and 5pm. The new system will focus on road safety, integrity of the licensing system, professional development and the use of technology and compliance. The move will maintain high standards of driver assessment, with the Department of State Growth continuing to manage bookings and compliance to ensure the integrity of assessments. See more
