07.01.2022 Treatment for the flesh eating Buruli Ulcer, also known as the Bairnsdale Ulcer, is to be listed on the PBS. Federal Health Minister and local Federal MP Greg Hunt will make the announcement on Monday. The flesh-eating condition is especially prevalent on the Peninsula.... While the ulcer is not fatal, it can leave sufferers with significant cosmetic, and sometimes functional damage to their limbs. Rimasin, the drug used to treat the ulcer, will drop in cost from around $140 to $40.
