24.01.2022 Well its been a day to go down in history, thats for sure! As we come into stage four restrictions Im sure many will face the unknown..... If we all pull together and do the right things, then this should be over and done with sooner rather than later. There are much bigger causes to be worried over and to stand up against, covid and the rules and advised rules from government is not one of them. We need to follow the directives and abide by the advice given by the Vic...torian government to ensure that we beat this covid virus together! We as a unit at Sorrento and as an emergency service will be following the rules and regulations of the Victorian government and continuing as best we can as an emergency service to the community. We hope you all stay safe and well and work together to beat this! Lets show our strength as a community. Sorrento SES are still responding at this stage as per normal. 132500
24.01.2022 To our fellow emergency first responders, may you RIP. Condolences to your family, work colleagues and friends. Thank you for your services. SES Sorrento Unit and our community xx
24.01.2022 National Road Safety Week is taking place on 15-22 November 2020, and we will be shining a light on road safety during the week. Turn on your headlights on Frid...ay 20 November and keep an eye out for landmarks illuminated in yellow. This week is a reminder of the importance of safety for all our road users - because everyone has the right to get home safe. #shinealightonroadsafety #NRSW
23.01.2022 Sorrento SES is one of the 103 VICSES units that look after Road Crash Rescue in the Victorian community. While we don’t get a lot of crashes on the southern peninsula, the risk increases with more traffic visiting holiday homes, the beaches, and our many tourist attractions. A lot of people who have spent a lot of time in lock down, and not behind the wheel. ... There’s no rush to get where you're going. Please take extra care on the roads and don’t become a statistic, and miss Christmas with your family. Let us learn our skills in training and not on the real thing. #roadtozero #roadtraumavic #vicses

22.01.2022 A friendly reminder to please slow down when passing emergency service vehicles with red and blue flashing lights. We would also like to remind everyone to please DO NOT drive past our vehicles that have blocked the road and the hazard ahead and or the witches hats we have placed on the road. Our number one priority is the safety of our members! Please know that we block the roads with our vehicles and witches hats for the safety of our members and for the members of the public. Everyone deserves to go home at the end of each day safe and well.

20.01.2022 We know people would normally like to travel out of Melbourne to popular destinations such as the Mornington Peninsula as the weather warms up and school holida...ys approach. In an effort to deter and detect any breaches of the Chief Health Officers directions, police will have a highly visible presence in the Mornington Peninsula community, including at vehicle checkpoints on major arterial roads, mobile vehicle checkpoints and ongoing proactive patrols as part of Operation Sentinel. Anyone pulled over at a vehicle checkpoint can expect to have their licence and work permit checked by police and their residential address confirmed. Police will also be proactively patrolling popular locations such as beaches, parks and other areas where people are expected to visit to ensure that everyone is adhering to the current Stage 4 restrictions. This includes ensuring only Mornington Peninsula residents or others travelling with a permitted purpose are found to be in the area. Anyone who lives in the Mornington Peninsula area and is travelling for a permitted purpose should expect to see some delays while the vehicle checkpoints are in place. While these checkpoints may cause some inconvenience for local residents, its important to remember that they are an important component in stopping the spread of coronavirus and keeping the community safe.
20.01.2022 The following is the full Covid-19 restrictions for Victoria, with more to be announced tomorrow (Monday). Be assured that our operational response will not change. Please keep yourselves well and stay safe. -------------------------------...Continue reading

18.01.2022 With the wet and windy conditions that hit the Peninsula last night, our SES crews were kept busy over a few hours cleaning up the mess the storm had left behind. Sorrento SES had four different crews out working hard to get through it all, from trees down, roof damage and building damage. With great team work we managed to get the jobs done safely and efficiently. Thank you to all our members who attended last night and worked hard. Appreciate you all.
18.01.2022 Tonight was an interesting one at a tree down job with a lil surprise awaiting us. Our crew had to BEE very careful approaching this one! ... No two jobs are ever the same and this one proves just that. It was intriguing to see the bees up close and working away. Please note: no bees were harmed at this job.
17.01.2022 Thank you Tony and Colin from McCrae Lions Club for lighting up the Lighthouse to help us celebrate Wear Orange Wednesday - We are very honoured.
17.01.2022 With thanks to our brothers and sisters at Chelsea Unit: The search for Malcolm continues. If you see Malcolm anywhere, or signs of him or a bike in Langwarrin, please call 131 444, (Police non-emergency).
17.01.2022 MISSING Ron Darby has not been seen since he left his home at approximately 1pm Wednesday 2/12/20 in Red Hill. 16.01.2022 Our crew had a big job today with this huge tree down across the road blocking it fully in both directions. It just goes to show that it doesn’t need to be windy and rainy for trees to fall. Be aware and be safe. ... If you come across anything that may require the SES to attend please phone 132500. We are still responding 7 days a week all year round.
16.01.2022 Tonight at 5:40pm the Sorrento SES Unit will be sounding our truck sirens four times as a sign of respect to the four Victoria Police officers who tragically lost their lives while on duty. 10.01.2022 A breakfast of Champions! This photo was taken in 2016, when we were called to help Victoria Police search Sawmill Settlement, in the rugged hills north-west of Mt. Buller. "Mountainous country", the request read "High level of fitness required." Seven of our Unit members had recently completed the Oxfam Trailwalk, so we knew we were ready for it. Here Lachie Wood and Dave Rowe are fueling up for a long day.
10.01.2022 Our members have been out and about over the past few weeks attending to and assisting with numerous jobs on the Peninsula. From trees down, searches, floods, building damage, assist AV, assist Vic Pol and even a multi agency rescue! We hope you all stay safe leading up to Christmas and over the holidays.
09.01.2022 A short video featuring just a few of the many emergency responders who went to help our beautiful Gippsland communities during the fires early this year - And some important messages for all communities: The only prevention is preparation, The only response is safety, The only recovery is the heart.
09.01.2022 BONEO RD CAPE SCHANCK NEW 60 KM/H SPEED LIMIT NEAR BUSHRANGERS BAY CAR PARK Due to the large number of people visiting Bushrangers Bay and the dangerous condi...tions created by having people parking/ walking next to a 100 km/h carriageway, the speed on Boneo Rd in that vicinity has been reduced to 60km/h until the end of September this year. The 60 km/h zone will operate 24/7 and will be enforced by police from the HWP and local stations. If you fail to take note of the signs and sail through the 60 zone at an alleged speed of 100 km/h, you risk a $702 fine and having your licence suspended for 6 months. If you are in a truck, the fine would be $1652 and a 6 month licence suspension. If you slow down to 60 km/h you risk nothing, and your trip takes a tiny bit longer. Please take note of the new signage and drive safely.
08.01.2022 Today our SES volunteers are helping with the set-up and management of four Covid-19 testing stations across Melbourne. Two Sorrento members are supporting the DHHS staff at Southland shopping centre. Drop in and get yourself tested!

01.01.2022 Sorrento members are assisting our brothers and sisters from Upper Yarra Unit with the on-going search for Susan Shaw, in the Warburton area. If you see Susan or have any information regarding her location please call Police on 131444. Susan suffers a medical condition and has been missing for five days.
01.01.2022 Another successful carry out after a mountain biking accident - this time using 4wd. We got up the track (up at the back of Dromana) prior to Ambulance Victoria, at which time we assessed the patient who was suffering a broken collarbone and we were able to get him safely into our 4wd. It was quickly getting cold and the patient was in a lot of pain. Just after the patient was put into our 4wd, Ambulance Victoria arrived from the other side of the hill with the park rangers. They performed a medical assessment and they were happy for us to slowly 4wd the patient out to a waiting ambulance, with the medics travelling in with the patient. A job well done by all. For those out mountain biking, know your limits, wear safety gear, and always make sure youre not alone. 132500
