13.01.2022 SOUTH COAST RE-OPENS FOR BUSINESS Emergency Services have been working hard to ensure many areas of the South Coast can re-open. After assessments held today, i...t has been decided that visitors may now visit many areas of the South Coast, however some areas which were heavily impacted by the bushfires remain only accessible to local residents. People wishing to take advantage of the tourist areas are strongly encouraged to contact their destination operators and accommodation providers before setting out. You should always check your route is clear by monitoring Live Traffic NSW and be aware that roads may close without warning. Bush fire activity is still active west of the Princes Highway. You should stay up to date of the bushfires with NSW Rural Fire Service Fires Near Me app. National Parks remain closed until 1st February 2020. *photo taken earlier this week at Holiday Haven Lake Conjola.

06.01.2022 Dear Loyal Possumwood Supporters, It’s Steve here I really need your help tonight. We are still way short of our target and with the fire and the holiday seaso...n upon us we only have a few days to be fully ready. Australia’s wildlife has endued an appalling year with the bushfires and their aftermath. Much of the wildlife recovery work was left to individuals and a few small groups who totally rely on community support for the work they do. Many of the success stories have gone unheralded. These successes need to be acknowledged, learnt from, and built on; and bushfires are not the only cause of wildlife trauma. Millions of our animals die a painful and lonely death without due care. Australia needs to be better prepared for future disasters and on-going trauma for our unique wildlife. At Possumwood Wildlife we have learnt a lot over the years from the many trauma cases that come to us from fires and other incidents and diseases. A new wildlife hospital has been constructed at Possumwood and our recovery and research facilities upgraded. We envisage the hospital as a place where veterinarians can gain the knowledge and skills required in wildlife trauma treatment and their recovery..... We also see the hospital as a place where young people can be inspired to have an interest in our wildlife. In setting up the hospital at Possumwood we need assistance with the one-off costs in purchasing expensive specialist veterinary equipment such as x-ray, operating table, autoclave, endoscope, suction equipment and theatre lighting. This will enhance our capability to treat and rehabilitate traumatised wildlife on an on-going basis and be better prepared for future catastrophic events We’ve basically been able to do no fundraising over the past year and we desperately wanted to complete our own wildlife facility to treat the sick and injured animals that desperately need our help. So, with not long to go before Christmas we are well short of our $35,000 goal. Tonight, I’m asking you to join as one to help get us over the line. We’ve put our heart and soul into this rescue and we need you just to chip in $5 each to get us over the line. I know it’s tough out there but this close to Christmas, it will be the best thing you this coming week I promise and I’ll know that we have the best chance to save more animals, as fire season approaches and the calls for help get louder. I’m crossing everything you can help tonight and please please share this post far and wide. Our animals need you tonight. Please donate now: https://possumwood.giveeasy.org/please-help-us
