24.01.2022 Two very interesting things in the IPC Statement of Reasons Executive Summary in relation to Greenhouse Gas Emissions. 1. If actual emissions are more than pre...dicted Santos will be required to offset these and measuring and reporting those emissions will be done in consultation with an expert advisory group. 2. The IPC has made clear it isn’t their job to make a judgement about whether gas extraction generally should be permitted or to speculate on alternatives. Well doesn’t this show a broken system and it puts the responsibility for the approval of this dud proposal squarely back onto the failed policies of the NSW Government. If the planning system isn’t set up to weigh options that can deliver in the public interest, then what is its point? It’s not independent. It is a check box - detailed as it might be - to give cover for poor Government policy. If there was an option for a cleaner and cheaper delivery of energy - the fact a planning decision maker can’t say that makes a mockery of any system with ‘planning’ in its name. The irony is that a Standing Expert Advisory Group was a recommendation of the Chief scientist that was never implemented. It’s purpose, amongst other things, was actually supposed to be to identify areas where gas extraction should not be permitted and to weigh up new information - like recent concerns about the level of fugitive emissions. Perhaps if it was created when recommended the community wouldn’t have been dragged thought this 6 year nightmare. The planning system is broken.

20.01.2022 And a fire started in the gas field area a couple of hours ago. Still no recent reports. As if to remind everyone why we don't need a gas field in our forest.

The Queensland Hunter Gas Pipeline proposal will impact this area and 850 gas wells planned by Santos in the Pilliga will reduce access to water for all life out there. It will be stopped by many.
