25.01.2022 We are very much looking forward to welcoming our 2021 Prep students to their first Prep Mini Visit tomorrow morning. Staff will be outside the office from 8:45am to greet each family and direct them to the O'Dea. While the children are having a play in our Prep Learning Area and meeting others who will be joining them in Prep next year, we will have a 'Preparing For Prep' presentation with guest speakers in the O'Dea for parents. Just a reminder that children will need to b...ring a hat and water bottle to the mini visit (please label both items). Our next Prep Mini Visit will be held on Tuesday 10th November from 9am - 10am.
25.01.2022 Crazy Hair and Sock Day was a HUGE success. Our school was awash with creativity and colour. Everyone looked FANTASTIC! Well done to all of the students and staff who got involved and donated a gold coin. Offering a small donation to charity can help students understand the importance of sharing and the ways in which our small acts of kindness can have a greater effect on others.

22.01.2022 Today students in Prep, Yr 1 and Yr 2 had the opportunity to participate in prayer activities with our Star of the Sea Connected Youth Parish ministry. 22.01.2022 Thank you to our Year 6 Leaders for serving pancakes to our students for our Pancake Feast Day. It was wonderful to see our Prep students enjoying their first Shrove Tuesday with us at Star of the Sea. Did you know? Historically, ingredients like eggs, butter and fat were used up on Shrove Tuesday ahead of Lent, and the simplest solution would be, of course pancakes! #PancakeDay... #shrovetuesday #bcecatholiceducation #catholiceducation #starofthesea See more

21.01.2022 Check out the AMAZING animations created by our students! Stop-Motion animation is a film making technique that captures one frame at a time, with objects being moved ever-so-slightly between frames. When you play back the sequence of images rapidly, it creates the illusion of movement. Each week, our students in Prep to Year 6 attend STEM lessons where the focus is on 4 very important skills: Creativity, Communication, Critical Thinking and Collaboration. Within each lesson, the students participate in hands-on learning experiences based on digital and design technologies and at the end of each term, create innovative projects to showcase their learning.

07.01.2022 This week was Catholic Education Week! Held annually, Catholic Education Week provides an opportunity for all 307 Catholic schools in Queensland to celebrate and promote their distinctive mission and ethos. This year marks 175 years of Catholic Education in Queensland. Our Year 3 teachers and students created a beautiful virtual Liturgy, so that we could all celebrate this event together. This years theme is: A Spirited Tomorrow. ... To Christians, the future does have a name, and its name is Hope. Feeling hopeful does not mean to be optimistically nave and ignore the tragedy humanity is facing. Hope is the virtue of a heart that doesnt lock itself into darkness, that doesnt dwell on the past, does not simply get by in the present, but is able to see a tomorrow. (Pope Francis)

It’s all about participation and keeping active, whilst raising money for our school. By the time our students reach the finish line, they will be drenched in coloured powder. Our school needs your support in reaching our fundraising goal. The more money we raise, the more we can provide for the students through vital school projects. We thank you in adva...nce for your support. Download your Sponsorship form here: https://australianfundraising.com.au//2020-Colour-Explosio To register for online fundraising go to www.myprofilepage.com.au and create a profile page for your child. There are also some great features like creating your own avatar, selecting your prize goal and recording your sponsorships. It’s the easiest way to help your child raise money and to reach your fundraising goal sooner. You can share your fundraising page to family and friends through Facebook, Twitter, email and even text message with a few simple clicks. (If you already registered your fundraising account in Term 1, it will still be active and all money previously raised will be shown). For the Colour Run, we ask that children wear free dress on the day, most importantly a plain white shirt as they will be covered in coloured powder from head to toe. Further details regarding the Colour Run event will be communicated in the school newsletter this week.

07.01.2022 As you know, Star of the Sea is right next to the ocean and we should be more mindful of our environment and pollution. Pollution is a huge problem and everyone in the world needs to be responsible. We cant stop it all but as a school we can make better choices to help reduce our rubbish Zara. We would like to recognise the wonderful work achieved by our Year 4 student Zara. She was concerned about the amount of plastic waste being used each day at SOTS and presented a pl...an to leadership on how we as a school could take action to reduce our impact on the environment. Zara has spoken to our students at assembly, made videos for each class to watch on how to care for our environment, organised WOW (Wipe-Out-Waste) lunches each Monday and hosted an art competition to motivate our students. Her enthusiasm and passion to make a difference to our world has been inspiring. WIPE OUT WASTE ART COMPETITION Congratulations to everyone who entered our art competition! There were so many creative and artistic entries, that the judges had difficulty choosing winners. Thank you to everyone who participated and the PCG for providing beautiful prizes. We look forward to seeing what initiatives Zara has planned for Term 3.

01.01.2022 Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day in the Season of Lent. We celebrated Ash Wednesday with our Year 3-6 students attending Mass with our Star of the Sea Parishioners and our Prep to Year 2 students participating in a Liturgy. Thank you to Fr Ashley, Brother Isaac and our APRE for leading such prayerful and reverent celebrations for our students and families. What is Ash Wednesday?... Ash Wednesday is the start of the Lent season, traditionally observed as 40 days of prayer, fasting, and repentance in the days before Easter. In Ash Wednesday services around the world, catholics receive a cross of ashes on their foreheads. This cross of ash tells friends and neighbours that we know that we are not perfect, but we can reflect on our actions and try to be better people. The ashes are prepared by burning the palm fronds used the prior year’s Palm Sunday celebration. #AshWednesday #Lent2021 #lent #starofthesea #catholiceducation #bcecatholiceducation #BCECatholicIdentity
