25.01.2022 On Sunday the 6th of January, it was close to standing room only at our first Soul Food of the year! Many of our regular attendees brought visitors from as far afield as Malaysia and Japan so we had a wonderful turnout to share "The Sacred Balance", a program focusing on our relationship with the environment from a spiritual perspective. Our February event will be entitled "Two Wings" and covers the equality of men and women. We will soon be sharing a whole year of Soul... Food themes with you. Thank you everyone for your ongoing support of this initiative.

25.01.2022 Fitting piece of music to share with you all for this weekends Soul Food on the theme Prisoner of Self

25.01.2022 Dear friends and all who join the local Redcliffe Baha community for our monthly Soul Food gathering. The purpose is to offer an opportunity to anyone to refresh and renew a drooping spirit or to be enlivened and inspired through a collection of multi-faith and multi-cultural writings and readings from philosophers and thinkers. It is an opportunity to build community and connection and offer new perspectives. The theme this month is the power of time and its ability to heal and transform. There are many beautiful writings to share. We look forward to welcoming you to this free, open opportunity to connect with others and have uplifting conversations on matters which touch all of our hearts. Light refreshments, tea and coffee will be served after the program. Everyone most welcome!

24.01.2022 Welcome to another Soul Food on Sunday 2 February at 10am at the Old Fire Station! As we move into a new and wonderful year we are planning some changes to Soul Food which we hope will build upon the sense of community this gathering has created. Following the Soul Food program and our usual refreshments anyone who wishes is invited to gather together to share devotions for humanity. As an alternative to being overwhelmed by all that is going around us, this is a purposeful and loving opportunity to come together in unity and purpose to make a spiritual contribution to the betterment of the world. Prayers and readings will be from the Baha Faith. Looking forwards to seeing you on Sunday!

23.01.2022 The theme of this months Soul Food is Infinite Worlds. It speaks about life beyond this world from many spiritual and cultural perspectives. The timing is quite lovely so close to ANZAC day when we were called to remember so many who are no longer with us. Because of a Baha conference in Brisbane we had lower numbers at out last Soul Food so we took the opportunity to try something a little different. Instead of asking readers to share the writings we invited all those present who wanted to read to take a turn. It was wonderful to hear the diversity of voices and accents all united in readings of a single theme and everyone seemed to enjoy participating too. Perhaps well have the chance try that again. We hope that you can join us on Sunday 5 May at 10am. Light refreshments served over uplifting conversations!

22.01.2022 Soul Food on Sunday 3 November will explore the inner self and the attributes that define, uplift and transform us in a program entitled The Inner Landscape. Our special Soul Food event last Sunday was a wonderful celebration of the Bicentenary of the birth of the Bab. Thank you to all who shared it with us - along with a delicious Persian kabob lunch and a viewing of film "Dawn of the Light". Hoping to see you all on Sunday at 10am at the Old Fire Station for our regular Soul Food.

21.01.2022 Renewal and rejuventation in nature...join us for uplifting readings on this topic on Sunday.

18.01.2022 Excerpts from this Sundays Program themed, Prisoner of Self O OFFSPRING OF DUST! Be not content with the ease of a passing day, and deprive not thyself of everlasting rest. Barter not the garden of eternal delight for the dust-heap of a mortal world. Up from thy prison ascend unto the glorious meads above, and from thy mortal cage wing thy flight unto the paradise of the Placeless.... Bahullh, from The Hidden Words We humans are often shackled with the incapacity to act, being captives in some dreadful, truly dreadful cage. I know there is such a thing as liberation, the longed-for liberation. If, whether with or without cause, you lose your good name and reputation, fall into want and adversity or under the pressure of circumstances, you are a prisoner. You cannot always tell what it is that bars your way, encompasses and entombs you, but you feel the barriers, the obstacles, the walls. You know what will cause the prison to collapse? A deep, genuine love, being friends and brothers, loving one another; that will break down the gates of the prison with irresistible force. Those who possess none of this, stay dead. But where friendship blooms, life is reborn. Vincent Van Gogh

17.01.2022 One of the organisers recently attended a talk by one of Australias foremost social researchers Hugh Mackay. Hugh spoke about how as a society we are more socially fragmented than ever before. He offered community as one of the solutions, whether that is talking to your neighbours or having connection through community. One of the readings from this months Soul Food really speaks to that reality and challenge. The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller bu...ildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less. We have bigger houses, but smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgement; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. Weve learnt how to make a living, but not a life; weve added years to life, but not life to years. Weve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour. Weve conquered outer space, but not inner space; weve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; weve split the atom, but not our prejudice. We have higher incomes, but lower morals; weve become long on quantity, but short on quality. These are the times of tall men and short character; steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition. These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes. It is a time when there is more in the show window and nothing in the stock room; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose to make a difference. (Attributed to a Columbine High School Student in 1999 ) See more

16.01.2022 Soul Food friends! Friends and new attendees are warmly welcomed to this community building activity.

15.01.2022 Welcome to another Soul Food coming around on Sunday 7 July. This month we hear about "Footprints in the sand". This comes from a famous analogy of someone looking back along the beach on the course of his life and the hardest times in his life he saw only one set of foot prints. He dreamed he was always walking in the companionship of his God but at the hardest times there was only one set of prints. The readings consider this special relationship between humanity and o...ur creator from a range of perspectives, faiths and philosophers. Everyone is warmly welcomed to this peaceful and reflective time and to refreshments served afterwards where there is the chance to share in uplifting conversations which connect us as we all journey through life. Hope to see you on Sunday 7 July at 10 am at the Old Fire Station, 395 Oxley Avenue, Redcliffe.

14.01.2022 Its almost Soul Food time again... The first Sunday of March falls on March 3rd so we are looking forward to seeing you at the Old Fire Station, 395 Oxley Avenue, Redcliffe at 10am. All are welcome to this space and to enjoy uplifting conversation afterwards over light refreshments. We now have a year in advance program with all... upcoming events and themes which will be available from Sunday. Thank you to everyone for their flexibility last month when due to unforeseen circumstances (how could forgetting to pick up key be forseen?!) we relocated to Bonnys home. The atmosphere was quite different but as lovely. Everyone taking turns to read added a new dimension of participation and unity. This demonstrates how well the Soul Food material translates to a home environment too. You are most welcome to use this material to continue the sense community and connection with friends and neighbours. Looking forward to seeing all our regulars and welcome any new comers on Sunday.

Many of our regular Soul Food participants attended Moreton Bay Regional Cou...ncils Neighbour Day event on Saturday 30 March where social commentator Hugh McKay gave an enlightening talk to a packed house of around 250 people. Hugh spoke of how "the state of your nation starts in your own street". He recognised all the social ills our community has to contend with and offered compassion as a means to alleviate some of societys suffering. Reaching out to your neighbour was one way to show that. We hope that Soul Food gives you an opportunity to reach out to others in conversations over light refreshments following the program on Sunday. We look forward to seeing you there... See more

06.01.2022 Dear Soul Food friends, about now I would normally be saying "looking forward to seeing you at Soul Food this Sunday" but under current situation Soul Food is suspended until further notice. I know many will miss the fellowship and unity created in this space and look forward to sharing future gatherings with you. In the meanwhile, each day at 10am the Baha community have devotions through Zoom to which all are welcome. Please ask for link. I will post some writings and pra...yers which I hope will sustain our Soul Food community in the time that we are physically, but not spiritually apart. This is a special prayer often referred to as the Short Healing Prayer... "Thy name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance of Thee is my remedy. Nearness to Thee is my hope, and love for Thee is my companion. Thy mercy to me is my healing and my succor in both this world and the world to come. Thou, verily, art the All-Bountiful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise. Bahullh Please stay safe and well in these challenging days... With love.

06.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing you all this Sunday at 10am to explore the "Visions of Oneness" "Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so you shall become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil." - James Allen

06.01.2022 Today, at the online devotional gathering this was shared from the writings of the Baha Faith. It has such relevance for today and for the need for hope and turning towards God. "Today, humanity is bowed down with trouble, sorrow and grief, no one escapes; the world is wet with tears; but, thank God, the remedy is at our doors. Let us turn our hearts away from the world of matter and live in the spiritual world! It alone can give us freedom! If we are hemmed in by diffic...ulties we have only to call upon God, and by His great Mercy we shall be helped. If sorrow and adversity visit us, let us turn our faces to the Kingdom and heavenly consolation will be outpoured. If we are sick and in distress let us implore Gods healing, and He will answer our prayer. When our thoughts are filled with the bitterness of this world, let us turn our eyes to the sweetness of Gods compassion and He will send us heavenly calm! If we are imprisoned in the material world, our spirit can soar into the Heavens and we shall be free indeed!" Abdul-Baha - Paris Talks All welcome to on-line devotionals. They are currently replacing Soul Food.
