22.01.2022 This is one of the most fun molas we have ever seen. It is a "Nia Pulu" (Devil Wasp) design that includes many of the wasp's victims -- appliqued onto his wings.... If you have a friend who doesn't understand why molas are cool, or why they are in a whole different category from other textiles or art forms, show them this one! (Check out the hat, or the wildly decorated tuxedo worn by the devil wasp -- so great!) Collected by Kit and Valerie Kapp in the 1960s. See more

16.01.2022 An incredible Ottoman embroidered dress This garment called "Bindalli" is an excellent example of 19th century Ottoman fashion Dense gold thread "Dival" embroid...ery over velvet using rich and intricate patterns which were direclty inspired by European designs and fashion indicating that back then the ottoman court and elite had already abandonned the archaic oriental taste resulting in the universal adoption of what came to be labelled as the "Ottoman baroque", a style often found in many wares of the ottoman material culture production all through the 19th century! 07.01.2022 This red silk vest known as a jhabla, worn by a Parsi (also spelt Parsee) of Gujarat in Western India, is unusual in that the base textile has been resist-dyed with a cross-hatched pattern first. The spaces between the trellis pattern have then been finely embroidered with flower motifs in yellow and red silk thread. There are elaborate borders too as well as pairs of peacock motifs front and back. Ostensibly Chinese in style, it is a locally-made copy of a Chinese embroidere...d item. Parsi embroideries were very popular among the Parsi community of India during the nineteenth century. Such smock-like garments were made from a single piece of silk or satin cloth, usually embroidered with Chinese designs in white or cream silk thread. They were stitched on the side with an opening at the neck which is gathered with a ribbon or in the later pieces the area around the neck is embroidered to define the area as in the piece you have shown. They were worn over loose Chinese pyjamas which were embroidered at the hem and known as an ijar. Typically, they were worn by Parsi children on ceremonial occasions such as before the initiation ceremony. (from Michael Backman catalogue)
