25.01.2022 ITS OUR BIRTHDAY EVE! Holey moley how on earth has it already been two years of business?! Opening a business has been the hardest & easiest, the most stressful but content, the most compromising & rewarding and the most exhausting but fulfilling thing I have ever done. ... There is no such thing as a sole trader in my eyes. So many people have helped me get to this point and so many people will continue to help me. Thank you to all my loyal clients, my support team (I really have the best ones) & my family, I will continue to lean on you all forever! Cheers too two years Lots of love, Tarsh McCallum & The Nourish Nook ps. keep an eye on our instagram story tomorrow for some of our favourite memories & our birthday giveaway winner!

I think some selected hugs are necessary and okay today. Tarsh McCallum

25.01.2022 There is a reason for both parts of our title (biopsychosocial is the fancy terminology, which really just means we look at the whole picture) One of my favourite parts of the job is getting to know everyone I treat, not only what they are seeing me for and how it is impacting their day, but also what makes them happy, what they are worried about and what their goals are. ... It helps me treat them better, it helps them feel better faster & quite often they make me feel better too! Tarsh McCallum

20.01.2022 How are your New Year movement resolutions going? I am all about movement, and all about my clients moving too! However, most soft tissue injuries occur from doing too much too quickly, so we need to proceed with a plan! Our TOP circle is the perfect balance, the exercise is remaining in the load tolerance. ... Our MIDDLE circle, shows a sudden increase in exercise which now is greater than the load tolerance. Our BOTTOM circle is after a period of rest, demonstrating a low load tolerance, which your normal exercise routine is now outside of. Often (not always) when one of these occur, clients experience pain responses in the tissues. Exercise is only one example here, the same principal applies for things like preseason house work manual labour gardening Feel free to come in for a consult to help design a plan to keep you & your bod on track! Each session involves ... a lot of discussion different types of testing hands on treatment a plan for outside of our sessions Patients tell us a lot about what is going on, you are our best clues. Even though evidence leads us away from a lot of manual therapy, I still believe it plays an important role, plus if I make you feel better during our session I think you will be more likely to listen to my advice for after (hehe) Because I only see people weekly, fortnightly or even monthly, what you are doing outside of our session times is really important. 14.01.2022 My top tips for working out at home one | making time to warm up & cool down two | keep safe with correct technique ... three | change up what you are doing four | lock in workouts each day Being at home, we can easily finish a workout and get distracted with something around the house, make sure you assign time to warm up and cool down appropriately. Without anyone watching you, being mindful of your own technique is more important than ever, ask questions, google exercises with videos and be confident in your movements. Your body likes to be challenged, use this time to try new workouts, running outside instead of inside, doing more strength instead of body weight, include some yoga in your room before bed time. Keep your body adapting. Having no set class can make it easy to skip a day. Plan your workouts at the start of the week, organise online sessions, FaceTime friends and do them together, or get your household involved. Keeping organised & accountable is key. Share some of your ideas and workouts with us! Tarsh McCallum

11.01.2022 We are all human, but for the main part, I also do what I encourage my clients to do I’ve had a lot of questions lately about what my weekly movement sessions look like. I am such a routine person, it seems to keep me sane, so each week looks fairly similar. 3 pilates sessions... 3 interval running sessions 1 long run netball (in season) HIIT (post season) With a previous knee injury and general lower back pain at times, this little routine keeps my body happy, but also really helps my mental clarity. One thing I would like to do more consistently is yoga, and I do it when I can. Everyone is different, every body responds differently, pay close attention to how you feeling during and after certain exercises and your overall wellbeing. (Although our classes make everyone feel good ) Tarsh McCallum + The Nourish Nook

07.01.2022 My Thursday morning classes have been working really hard to perfect their 90/90 lunges, an have absolutely nailed it Why is it so much harder than squats? The squat requires length over the knee joint, but the lunge requires length over the hip & the knee joint. Our quad muscle crosses both these joints, which tests its load under a lot of length. My top tips for perfecting the exercise ... take a big step forward ensure both feet are facing forward focus on bending the back knee to floor aiming for 90deg at BOTH knee joints prevent your back from arching throughout If you are feeling a tight stretch or pull through the front of your back leg you got it! Tarsh McCallum & The Nourish Nook

07.01.2022 Q How should I exercise do during pregnancy? A Exercise to maintain, not to progress. Your body goes through a lot of changes during this time, but there are certain exercises you can do to help guide your body throughout.... pelvic floor, breathing & core stabilising glute & lower body strength back strengthening mid back flexibility & rotation Combining Mum experience with physio experience, we have designed our pre & post natal classes to hit all these points. pre/post natal pilates | tues 10am We hope to see you there, Tarsh McCallum & The Nourish Nook

07.01.2022 Why is it so much harder to balance when your eyes are closed? We have two main ways in which we know where our body is in space 1 | visual input from eyes 2 | little organs in our soft tissue... When we close our eyes, its the little organs that help us know where our body is, what needs to move & what needs to stabilise. Its is important for us to be able to step without looking at the floor or helps us keep our eyes on a ball. After an injury, surgery or sometimes poor movement, this information gets disrupted & needs to be reprogrammed as part of your rehabs. It happens all throughout the body (not just the ankle). Do you have a spare 10 seconds? stand on one leg close your eyes nod your head up & down twist your body form side to side How did you go? Did you last the 10seconds? Try adding some balance work to your program & see how the rest of your body improves as well! Tarsh McCallum

04.01.2022 We are all human, but for the main part, I also do what I encourage my clients to do Ive had a lot of questions lately about what my weekly movement sessions look like.

04.01.2022 Everyone is itching to get back into sport after an ACL rehab journey, and there is a battery of tests that are heavily researched to help determine when is best and when is safe. There are five tests to complete lower limb L&R strength test single hop or drop test ... triple hop test cross over triple hop test agility T test (pictured) I perform these anywhere between 6-9 months to help guide specific rehab, which I believe is the most important few months. I then perform them again as a check list criteria for returning to sport. Returning to sport without these tests cleared can increase rerupture rates by 62%. Youve worked so hard over the 12months, finishing it off well is important! Tarsh McCallum

We spend a lot of our day using the front of our bodies, which leads to tightening of these muscles, and weaker back muscles over time. Clients that often benefit from back work ongoing shoulder pain tension headaches & neck pain admin or manual labour workers anyone who wants a beautiful posture Add any ‘pulling’ based exercises into your sessions & see if you notice a different.
