21.01.2022 We have a local 'find/hide/keep' rock group. Lots of families in the area get involved on their walks. My neighbour does some amazing designs - this was a special one of our pet! Do you have a local group?

21.01.2022 Reading and spelling are skills that, for most individuals, require explicit instruction, lots of practice and building upon SOLID foundations! How great is this new illustration!

19.01.2022 This little bookworm wanted to go to #bookweek2020 dressed as Hotdog by Ahn Do.

19.01.2022 Did you know that there's a quick (and FREE!) way to SCREEN a child's hearing? Sound Scouts can be downloaded on most devices and is for children aged 4 years and older (including adults). It can be easy to miss hearing difficulties or explain them away as a ... 'typical' behaviour (e.g. "They just choose not to listen!"...I'm parent to a 5yo, so I get it ). Hearing levels are important to check, particularly for anyone having difficulties with speech, language or literacy. PLEASE NOTE: this is a tool to be used understanding its limitations. It should not replace a formal assessment with an audiologist.

18.01.2022 Day 1 one of my Sounds-Write training at @boulevardgardens done! Wearing my 'lightbulb' earrings (a special and very thoughtful gift!) What was a 'lightbulb moment' for you when you trained in Sounds-Write??

17.01.2022 What a year! With face-to-face and online courses in high demand, I've been grateful to have the opportunity to train participants from every state and territory in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore in Sounds-Write. After training the staff at St Catherine’s Catholic College in Proserpine last week (in their school holidays by the way!!), we're taking a few days on Hamilton Island to pause, relax and celebrate family... including a growing bump!

17.01.2022 Well that's a view I've not seen for a while! Anyone recognise that coastline? Just a quick trip for work (hint - the traditional owners are the Bindal & Wulgurukaba people)

16.01.2022 Dyslexia is an invisible but common neuro-difference that thousands of Australian children and adults live with every day. It makes learning to read and spell particularly challenging, and is commonly misunderstood. Code REaD Dyslexia Network is a not-for-profit group dedicated to raising awareness of the condition. Every child deserves the gift of reading and the chance to feel understood and well supported in their education.

16.01.2022 Recently, Delta Goodrem shared her story about her communication difficulties and learning to speak and sing again with the support of a speech pathologist. In this video, Therese Dodds from Eastern Suburbs Speech Pathology and Delta talk with an inspiring group of individuals with communication or swallowing challenges. I usually only share information from the language or literacy 'bubble' of what a speech pathologist can do! Did you know that speech pathologists work with individuals across the full lifespan with all kinds of communication and/or swallowing difficulties? #CommunicatingWithConfidence

03.01.2022 Teaching a student to read and spell the common word-ending "shun" (usually spelt ) unlocks many multisyllabic words! I love these (super good-value) playing cards from Spelfabet available to download. I save time and plastic and print onto 320gsm paper rather than laminating. https://www.spelfabet.com.au/playing-cards/... #soundswrite #phonics #readinggames #spelling #practicemakespermanent

02.01.2022 The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Always Was, Always Will Be.recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers, first artists and first educators.... I pay my respects to the traditional owners of the land which I live and raise my family, the Jagera and Turrbal people. #NAIDOC2020
