21.01.2022 We thought it would be nice for those newly connecting to Sounds Across Oceans to share where it all started. The seeds for many of our programs were firmly planted in this initial intercultural music residency directed by SAO artistic director Dr Anthony Garcia. The program was facilitated by Khon Kaen University and featured students from both Thai classical, Thai folk and Western music streams learning how to collaborate through improvisation to create new music. Since this program SAO has introduced many new intercultural initiatives designed to support our evolving cultural, creative and social identity. #sao #intercultural #music #movement #art #wellbeing #education #philosophy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4AMXZk4O48

11.01.2022 Teaching Artist Spotlight: Tree of Life Dance Director Sandi Woo Improvisation is at the heart of the SAO approach to community arts programming and Sandi Woo personifies the inspired teaching artist improviser. Her approach is wide open, embraces the moment, nurtures the individual and supports the collective. Sandi encourages workshop participants to express their own voice in a collective environment as she helps people shape new body movements in response to the space, t...he music and their emotions--to help them share the feelings and sensations they contain within--to develop a framework for self discovery and expression . The process generates trust, dispels fear and anxiety and helps people relinquish control of the rational/critical mind so they can discover the power of the inner creative soul. Are you ready to join Sandi and be part of The Tree of Life seniors music and movement program? The soulful program designed for seniors takes place every Friday for 8 weeks starting in October, and we can't wait to share the fun and joy of being creative with you.
