12.01.2022 It's been a year like no other, and here at Souper Kitchen, we've experienced a huge 4-fold increase in requests for help due to Covid-19, the extensive lockdown in Melbourne, the loss of jobs and isolation. We rose up to the challenge and kept our doors open. From pre-made meals to grocery hampers, our amazing volunteers deliver weekly support to hundreds of individuals and families across Melbourne. We offer free, nutritional kosher meals to vulnerable individuals, thos...e affected by illness or trauma, frail elderly and people in difficult financial situations. As it's customary to support people in need prior to Yom Kippur, now it's a very special time to help us support our community further. A donation of $12 = 1 meal hamper consisting of a soup, a main course, bread and produce A donation of $28 = 1 grocery hamper consisting of produce, bread, pantry items and household essentials. 07.01.2022 At Souper everything we've taken on has lead to wondeful, soulful and meaningful reward. Our amazing souper heroes Luiza and Doron who worked all afternoon to enrich the lives of everyone at our amazing kitchen and hamper hq! We are so greatful to HaShem for bringing these amazing souls to us and giving us all light and meaning. I share below Luiza's story.... Shana Tova Umetuka everyone ~~~ It’s just a chair I hear you say We throwing it out - it’s broken, not needed...but that chair had one more purpose to serve... Yesterday I saw a need at Souper kitchen to create room for volunteers packing the hampers. Being solutions focused I decided to move the chairs stored at the front of the building to the garage. The garage was full of old and broken chairs. Sarah having an entrepreneur mindset suggested to throw the old chairs out. We decided to ask Doron for help. Doron - having a beautiful heart said yes and we totally hijacked his whole afternoon. He moved all his plans around to help us! This is where the universe played it’s magic! After Doron and I work hard for ages, we were tired and hungry. I was fortunate to be able to put some of these chairs in my hard rubbish. I have lived in my current unit for almost a year sharing a wall with a woman who's name I didn’t even know. We occasionally said hello to each other. At the same time my neighbour arrived and was parking her car. She heard Doron wish me a happy New year and asked did he just said Shana Tova to you? I said yes, you know it’s Jewish New Year tomorrow and she said - yes I know I’m from Israel. I can’t believe I was living wall to wall with another Jewish soul and didn’t know about it! This morning I went to Glick’s to get a round Hala and I got an extra one for her. Her name is Adva, she has no family or Jewish friends in Melbourne. We both were so happy and cried but two Jewish souls came together on this miracle New Year! So it’s not just a chair or Mitzvah it’s our God that sees our souls and leads our behaviours and directions in live! I’m so truly blessed to have met Adva and lifted up her New Year celebration this year! Have a great holiday everyone
