04.05.2022 Hi all, after a very long enforced break due to Covid, we are pleased to announce the next SESOS meeting will be held on Tuesday 27th April. 7pm onwards at Nerang Senior Citizens. The purpose of the meeting will be to: Establish a new committee and hold our AGM. Determine the future direction of the society. ... Hold an open discussion on means to grow the club. Whatever else you wish to discuss. As usual we will have our plant display and raffle, and please bring along something for the supper. All welcome, hope to see you there.

22.01.2022 Dendrobium calamiforme (Dockrillia calamiformis). This huge specimen was benched at the September meeting and attracted a lot of attention! It is a large sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte from northeastern Queensland, often found growing in rainforest. It has pendulous, clustered stems with pendulous, terete leaves and blooms in the spring.

18.01.2022 Paphiopedilum malipoense. This well grown and flowered plant was awarded ‘judges choice’ at the August meeting. Paphiopedilum malipoense is a small lithophyte from southern China and Vietnam and was only described in 1984. It was named after the Malipo area of China where it grows. It is found growing in amongst leaf litter and moss on limestone rocks. It blooms in the spring and produces a striking mottled green flower which can reach up to 10cm.

16.01.2022 This stunning specimen of Dendrobium sanderae var. major was awarded 'judges choice' at the September meeting. This dendrobium from the formosae section is found only in the mountains of Central Luzon in the Philippines. The plants can grow to a large size and produce an impressive display of flowers. It is listed as a cool grower but this one seems to be growing well here in SE Queensland.

12.01.2022 A big thanks to all members who benched plants last night at our September meeting. We ended up with a fantastic display of plants crammed onto two long benches. There were many interesting and unusual species benched plus some large specimen plants. Thanks also to Gary Yong Gee for his amazingly knowledgeable plant commentary!
