25.01.2022 Regular exercise and keeping an effective routine during COVID restrictions may seem tough, but if you can train everyday, it is possible to maintain most of your strength by doing 1-2 good strength sessions per week. 24.01.2022 Working from home can cause new aches and pains through your spine, hips and back. Working from home is a change that many of us have to simply learn to adapt too. However, it doesn’t come without its challenges. While many people struggle with concentration, others may experience new aches and pains in the body. It might be due to a makeshift workspace at home that doesn’t support good posture. It might be due to tension, as you find yourself battling to cope with the chang...es and the body naturally tenses up as a response. Our experienced practitioners are skilled in both pain relief and home office set up. 23.01.2022 The brain is a highly trainable organ. If you want to find ways to increase your productivity while you are working from home, you need to work with your brain, by understanding what it needs from you and understanding how you can train it. Aside from doing brief bursts of exercise as often as you can, in order to meet your brain’s needs for fresh and pumping blood, you can teach it when it needs to engage and when it can relax. Prior to working from home, your brain learned... that when you are at home, it doesn’t need to practice self-discipline in terms of concentrating and being productive. Now that you have to work from home, your brain hasn’t adapted to this new reality as yet. Teach your brain that you have to be productive at home by having a designated area that you only use when you need to work and concentrate. Your brain will build an association very quickly, but you need to be extremely strict about this. This is why you should leave the room to do your star jumps or any other non-work related tasks. @southeasternactivehealth (03) 9570 1552 www.activehealth.com.au www.activehealth.com.au/online-booking/ #Chiropractor #Chiropractorbentleigh #osteopath #osteopathbentleigh #bentleigh #jumping #flexibility #mobility #health #concentration #training #braintraining

21.01.2022 Sitting in front of the computer for an extended period of time? You may feel your hamstrings (the muscles at the back of your leg) begin to tighten. This can lead to soreness and start to effect the way you move. It can cause knee, hip and low back pain as well as make it difficult to bend down to put your socks and shoes on. Our osteopath, Dr David Cork is testing both the strength and flexibility of the hamstring muscle. He is also looking for a pain in the patients knee..., hip and back. A great stretch that you can try at home is to replicate this action by placing your leg on a table or wall, where the height is enough for you to feel a stretch in the back of your leg. Try holding the stretch for 60 seconds and repeating it 2 x on each leg. If you are experiencing hamstring tightness, or even knee, hip and back pain, get in touch with us so that we can provide you with tailored and personalise advice to get you feeling better and moving better again. @southeasternactivehealth (03) 9570 1552 www.activehealth.com.au www.activehealth.com.au/online-booking/ #Chiropractor #Osteopath #movement #health #wellness #hip #hippain #backpain #hamstring #workingfromhome #deskposture

19.01.2022 Top tips to plan you day and stop yourself from falling into bad habits. Its too cold, Im too tired, the kids are home, Ill do it tomorrow, I just dont have time......... Dr David - Osteopath has some GREAT advice - spread your physical activity through out the day and get it done when it works best for you! By moving throughout the day, it will stop your muscles and joints from stiffening up, improving your mobility and flexibility. This activity will also help to reduce the stresses that you are applying to your body by sitting or being inactive for extended periods of time. This tension could be your lower back pain from sitting down at your computer, or your neck pain from looking at a phone or a tablet for too long. @southeasternactivehealth (03) 9570 1552 https://www.activehealth.com.au/a/dr-david-cork-osteopath/ www.activehealth.com.au #Chiropractor #Osteopath #movement #organisation #health #wellness #posture #keepmoving #osteobentleigh #chirobentleigh

19.01.2022 Having an ergonomically friendly posture when sitting for long periods of time is super important to keep those back and hip aches and pains away. Whilst it may be comfortable for a short while to sit in a slouch position, but when you accumulate large amounts of time in this position, it can up with you!! The way you sit can really make a difference to how your body feels at the end of the day. We recommend your hips at 90-100 degrees, your knees at 90 degrees and your feet... flat on the floor or on foot rest. this position helps relieve tension on you low back, hips and legs. You can use a towel or small cushion to sit on to raise your hips, and you can also use some books or a folder under your feet to help to keep them supported. #deskposture #wfh #Backpain #hippain #posture #wellbeing

19.01.2022 Lower back support is key to ensure that you look after your back while sitting and working at your desk. This lumbar (low back) support helps keep you in a good position by preventing your natural tendency to slouch when seated. 19.01.2022 The side plank is a powerful version of the planking exercise, it concentrates all of its effects on one side of your body. It’s especially wonderful for your obliques, the muscles that run along the sides of your abdomen. Alongside your core muscles and your abdominals, this exercise also works your hips, chest and shoulders. This exercise may feel difficult to start as you start to strengthen through your oblique muscles. 19.01.2022 Squats and star-jumps engage some of the larger muscles in the body, requiring a great deal of energy and force in order to lift yourself off of the ground. This is what gets your heart pumping quickly and blood circulating around your body - you can elevate your heart rate much faster by doing these exercises than going for a run or a walk, giving your brain a wealth of oxygenated blood. By doing just a few of these intensive movements every once in a while, it can help to... counteract the effects of sitting still at your desk. If you feel your concentration levels are slipping, star jumps and squats can revitalise the brain and give you renewed mental energy. @southeasternactivehealth (03) 9570 1552 www.activehealth.com.au www.activehealth.com.au/online-booking/ #Chiropractor #Chiropractorbentleigh #osteopath #osteopathbentleigh #bentleigh #jumping #flexibility #mobility #health #concentration #blood #pumping

17.01.2022 Strong glutes are essential for proper pelvic alignment, power while running, and even for supporting while standing on one leg. Solid glutes can also help support the lower back during lifting and prevent knee injuries during exercises. 07.01.2022 A grade 1 strain affects only a limited number of muscle fibres. As a result, there is no decrease in strength and there is a fully active and passive range of motion. Acute and significant pain is accompanied by swelling and a minor decrease in muscle strength. A grade III, strain represents a complete rupture of the muscle.... This means either the tendon is separated from the muscle belly or the muscle belly is actually torn in 2 parts. If youre working on the frontline, keep a water bottle in your bag to drink before work, after work and during your breaks. If you find water tastes bland, add a couple of slices of lemon, a cold-infusion tea bag or sip on herbal tea for more flavour. Set reminder alarms on your phone to take breaks and drink up. #southeasternactivehealth #dietetics #dietitian #chiropractor #osteopath #wellness #hydration #hydrationinlockdown #bentleigh
