05.01.2022 Update Regarding Changes to Elective Surgery: South Gippsland Hospital has reduced elective surgery to 75% recently following a request from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, in light of the changing circumstances related to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Further changes regarding elective surgery will be introduced in the near future following an announcement by the Minister for Health yesterday: No new Category 3 or non-urgent Category 2 elective surgery bo...okings will be made until further notice Wherever possible, Category 3 and non-urgent Category 2 elective surgery cases already booked will take place. Category 1 and urgent Category 2 elective surgery will continue It is regrettable there is the need to take this step, and that some people waiting for elective surgery will have their care delayed. However, it is necessary that we ensure hospitals across the regional system have the capacity and the ability to redirect resources to the COVID-19 pandemic response. Patients will continue to be contacted to arrange necessary appointments and to schedule their operations and procedures. Any delayed surgery or procedures will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding during these challeging times. Paul Greenhalgh, CEO
