31.03.2022 Lyrebird Cricket Shield 2021-22 GRAND FINAL Over 50's Mornington Peninsula VCC v South Gippsland VCC 11.30 am 20 February @ AH Butler Oval - Jubilee Park, Frankston.

25.01.2022 South Gippsland Veterans Melbourne Over 50s notch up another win South Gippsland Veterans Cricket Club expanded this year to field two teams in the Over 50 competitions. This week it was the Melbourne teams’ week to play Round two of the Victorian Veterans D Grade Legends 50+ Melbourne comp. After coming off a strong Round 1 win and having finished Minor premiers last year in their first year of competition, the benchmark had been set for a great game. This week we hosted Won...ga Park at Korumburra Rec Reserve. On a damp pitch, Captain Trevor Allen lost the toss and was sent into bat. SGVCC started slowly losing a quick wicket to be 1/5 off 3 overs with Phil Richards being dismissed for a duck. The ship steadied in what was a difficult day for batting. Steve Rogers retired on 41, Trevor Allen 21, Craig Hoober 24, with first time player Kingsley Rajasingham and Mark Nicholls putting on a last wicket partnership of 42 scoring 29 and 14 respectively. SGVCC finished the day with a respectable total of 158 off the 40 overs. Wonga Park didn’t get off to a good start with SGVCC strike bowler Michael Whiteside claiming his first wicket off his third ball to have Wonga Park at 1/0. Wickets fell steadily from then on and Wonga Park battled hard to remain in the game. Highlights included Trevor Allen’s blinding catch in gully, with Michael Wright showing off his outstanding wicket keeping skills with both hands and feet. Stu Sawyers unfortunately pulled his quad muscle with his first fielding attempt. An unfortunate consequence of over 50’s cricket. Brian Knight finished off the tail taking an impressive 3/10 off his 4 overs to close out the game. Wonga Park were all out for 110 giving us our second win. In a game played in high spirits, with a lot of laughs, the team look forward to the next game away at Sunbury on 13/12/20 which makes for a great bus trip home - win, lose or draw. The Gippsland comp play Mornington Peninsular next week 6/12/20 at Nyora and looking forward to picking up their first win of the season. By Chris Johnstone & Mick Whiteside Thanks to Mark Drury Photography for supporting South Gippsland V.C.C and the Gippsland Over 50s, with great action photos this season.

18.01.2022 South Gippsland Over 60s.

10.01.2022 By John Moore At the second game of Mid-Week cricket played on 25th of November on the bottom oval At Knox Reserve we welcome 3 new players from Leongatha; MiKe Newton, Trevor Wilson & Norm Fraser, also back from surgery John Natoli. In the past I have been known to exaggerate & also can be very complimentary, also I have been critical of wicket keepers. Today I must say that all four wicket keepers gave an exemplary performance & young players could have learnt a lot from th...em. Today’s game was between two very even teams & the difference may have been the captains. As the captain of Braidners Bunnies (BB), Derek was not at the game on time, Moore’s Marsupials (MM) captained by John claimed the toss & asked BB to bat first. The two most experienced players Greg Watsford & Barry Johnson opened the batting & both were out to two excellent catches, Watsford 9 (11) caught by Dick Stumbles off Basil Kehayas bowling & Johnson 6 (17) caught by Basil Kehayas off Mike Newton’s bowling. Captain Braidner lasted 5 balls in making 2 before he was caught by Barry Cain off Norm Fraser’s bowling. Bill Neaves 15 (17) was dismissed by the Wilsons caught by Rob off Trevor’s bowling. BB were 4 for 39 in the 14th over. Some consolidation took place with Allan Jelliffe 10 (20) Graham Cuddon 12 (20) & Rob Redmond 14 (20) all retiring. Basil Kehayas claimed his second wicket when he bowled Max Stephens 1 (16) & BB were 5 for 83 in the 25th over, & they did not lose another wicket in the remaining 15 overs, but only scored 26 runs. Julian Jacotine 5 (20), Chris Harper 8 (20), Winston Deprazer 2 (20) all retired. Kevin Brown 8 (20) & Siva 3 (14) were both not out. After 40 overs Braidners Bunnies were 5 for 109. All of the 11 MM bowlers performed well: Basil Kehayas 6-2/12, Mike Newton 5-1/8, Trevor Wilson 5-1/8, Norm Fraser 5-1/16, Michael Boulton 4-0/15, Rob Wilson 5-0/23, Dick Stumbles 5-0/6, Keith Sanders 2-0/5, Barry Cain 1-0/4, Ian McLeod 1-0/7 & John Natoli1-0/3. Moore’s Marsupials lost their first wicket in the 5th over with a mix-up between Rob Wilson & Norm Fraser 1 (9) saw the latter run out. Rob Wilson 16 (20) Mike Newton 9 (20) Trevor Wilson 16 (20) all retired before MM lost 3 wicket for 12 runs with John Natoli 10 (19) bowled by Graham Cuddon. Max Stephens claimed the next 2 wickets, Keith Sanders 2 (6) caught by Rob Redmond & Barry Cain bowled for a 13 ball duck. Peter Saville 4 (20), Basil Kehayas 9 (20) & Dick Stumbles 19 (20) all retired before Michael Boulton 5 (19) was bowled by Winston Deprazer. John Moore 2 (8) joined Ian McLeod 4 (10) & were both not out when the game was called off with Moore’s Marsupials 5 for 112 in the 35th over. Braidners Bunnies bowling: Max Stephens 4-2/4, Winston Deprazer 4-1/9, Graham Cuddon 6-1/14, Barry Johnson 6-0/19, Chris Harper 4-0/12, Siva 4-0/19, Julian Jacotine 4-0/20 Greg Watsford 3-0/7, & derek Braidner 1-0/3. Another very enjoyable mid-week cricket was enjoyed by all. See more
